Hi Chris,

Anybody in these parts on FR know me. Click my name and you’ll see I’m an old fart. I worked, with my wife, on the Recall McCain committee. I’ve seen many things in this quest, not all pretty for you.

I’ve seen you are running against McCain, and I like that. (My anti-McCain bona fides are well known.) But, since I live here here where you do, I have concerns.

You’ve been working the Minutemen. What’s the deal with the accusations of misspent funds, specifically, what happened to the money that was given freely to you for building a fence on the border, and nothing happened?

It’s not that some strange FReeper is going to pop up and ask you, but what happens when the newspapers start asking? This will get ugly, and I am not in the mood for chain yanking.

CL

Keep your powder dry. This one’s not a good one. We’re being played for suckers. I have troubles.

"Keep it up, but remember that you've got a lot of homework ahead of you."

What's a PTA coffee monitor like you doing telling someone, that has accomplished as much as Chris has, what he has ahead?

Sit back and learn!

Your turn to learn Cyber:

"In May 2007, five state-level MCDC directors called for the Board of Director to meet with state directors to discuss a proposal to restructure the organization. A series of state and regional workshops were already scheduled to address that issue in August. The five state level directors challenged the Board of Directors to convene a meeting within two weeks. The Board of Directors voted to ask the five state directors to drop their demands for an immediate meeting and to attend the National Conference in August. When the five refused, they were removed from their positions by the Board of Directors. Chris Simcox did not dictate the firing of the five state-level directors. In fact, as the corporation’s official minutes demonstrate, he voted against firing the five and, instead, preferred to negotiate with them to resolve their differences within the organization. Throughout this episode, there were no financial problems within the MCDC. Any claim to the contrary is unsubstantiated. The MCDC filed all its necessary 990 reports, as well as all other documents required from a non-profit educational organization. The MCDC complied with all federal regulations and requirements for 503(c)(4) status. Furthermore, it has demonstrated complete fiduciary responsibility by hiring competent and reputable accounting and auditing firms that have prepared the requisite fiduciary reports on behalf of the organization.

Consequently, with all documentation and audits in order, and after two successive inquiries by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), both the Declaration Alliance and the MCDC have been judged to have appropriately accounted for all funds. Any and all accusations to the contrary are unfounded and motivated by efforts to besmirch the reputation of both organizations. These efforts likely represent fundamental disagreements with the MCDC goals stated above."

Nice boilerplate. The voters will never buy it, even though you make it look pretty. The papers, who the voters read, are going to eat him alive. Let Simcox answer me.

Meanwhile, we’re in the middle of an improper fundraiser, and I choose not to play. I encourage others to not participate, either.

“Anybody But McCain” isn’t good enough. Donate to his opponent if you will, but don’t waste it on Simcox. Betters will present themselves.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Warning: Addictive.

Don't know what it will do for your campaign when the KOS kiddies find out you've posted here, though.

I moved from Arizona to Minneapolis a couple of years back (used to live in Scottsdale, got tired of the heat).

You have my best wishes, & I'll talk to the wife about supporting your campaign financially.

Cheers!

Sorry, I’m still clumsy in grasping how to answer all these posts.

I answered all questions about the funds. The IRS never had a problem with any bookkeeping practices because the BOD made sure accounting was proper and above reproach. Geez after all I was CHALLENGING BUSH AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! You don’t think I made sure we were absolutely as perfect as we could be in accounting?

All funds raised for the fence were used to build the fence. The goal was to force the feds to do it - remember Bush signing the secure fence Act here in Az. I worked hard lobbying in DC to make that a reality, we forced their hand, missing accomplished. Funding for the fence dried up but we have about a half mile section that is completed from phase one of the projected plan. 150 feet in front of our fence is a vehicle barrier and a 16 foot tall steel fence erected by the feds.

All the malicious and defamatory attacks emanate from one maniacal individual who after not succeeding in a coup attempt over MCDC has been obsessed with creating what many on this post have brought up - again and again. I made my statement of fact. A group of individuals then attempted to destroy a great organization after they disagreed with the direction the organization was taking off the border.
Instead of walking away and creating their own org in their image, they chose to do everything possible to tarnish the reputation of EVERYONE involved and all they got for their trouble was scorn and shame.
I sleep well at night knowing that MCDC was a great moment in history and continues to stand as the standard bearer for the Tea Party activist movement.

I have 3 kids, a wife and a campaign to run so pardon me if I do not hang out here as often as some would like. I usually share thoughts on Facebook, linked to my blog and I twitter. I will definitely make it a point to post here more often.

I announced back in April and have been grassroots campaigning all over the state non stop, we have collected the required signatures for the ballot and will triple that number by March as this campaign heats up.

It means something to me to challenge the establishment. Don’t see anyone else stepping up to the plate, so it’s me taking the lead again. I would not be wasting my time or yours if I was not committed to this endeavor to serve the people. Seems I’ve doing that for 8 years already, might as well take one more big swing at the Leviathan and hope others are there with me. They are and I can win this seat.
Folks need to get past this BS and get going with supporting people who actually get things done.

"..1. vehicle barriers; 2. a small sensor barrier fence; 3. then a large anti-climb fence. A few weeks later, the Border Patrol and the federal government announced they would construct fencing along the exact same area where the MCDC project was building a one-mile section of the "model fence." That MCDC effort was assisted by Jim Campbell, a contractor from the Phoenix area. Campbell personally invested $100,000 in the fence project. He spent $68,000 for the initial steel fence posts, personally acquired the materials, came to the construction site, and oversaw construction of the initial foundational of the MCDC fence project..."

Jim Campbell wasn't happy.

Minuteman donor demands refund

"..An Arizona man who donated $100,000 to help the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border wants his money back.

James Campbell, a retired home builder who took out a $120,000 loan on his house to help build one mile of "Israel-style" fencing on private border land, is suing MCDC and its president, Chris Simcox, for fraud and breach of contract -- saying there has been no work on the double-security fence he was promised. .."

Good evening Mr Simcox & I applaud your commitment to conservatism & willingness to run for office.

This is a major commitment & to open yourself up to the scrutiny that such a challenge like this imposes takes a lot of courage & determination!

I personally do need to read up on your responses to the Minutemen financial concerns but I also wonder if you have responded to the following;

In 2004 Simcox was convicted in U.S. District Court of carrying a semi-automatic handgun onto a national park, and giving a "false or fictitious report" to a federal park ranger about the incident. He received 24 months of supervised probation and a fine of $1,000.

I am most certainly pro 2nd amdendment rights but was concerned with the false & fictitious report issue. Could you please clarify this for us?
