Large wardrobes of seldom-used clothes are no longer environmentally acceptable and people should instead rent outfits and accessories, according to the Governments waste watchdog.
The Waste & Resources Action Programme (Wrap) claims that overcoming our obsession with owning goods could be a secret weapon in meeting climate change targets. It has called for a fifth of all household spending, £148 billion out of an annual total of £732 billion, to be converted to renting by 2020.

Idiocy Ping!
If environmentalists had their way they’d be the only ones with wardrobes, and the rest of us would have to share. (And that goes for a lot more than just clothes.)
I’ve got some old jockey shorts I’d be willing to rent. Can’t guarantee they are emission-free, however.
rent clothes??
Should we all share clothes?? Should we all share one giant closet?
These people are nuts
The government is about to own everything, anyway.
That’s stupid. But if the government had taken on the right to tell people what they can wear, it wouldn’t just be stupid, it would be just government doing what government does.
Let's all go Buck Naked! That should really help the carbon emissions!
This is hilarious - I’m picturing everyone back in
caveman attire... Uh Oh, PC correct and cavewoman attire..
In the UK, not only is Big Brother watching everything you do, he’s also rather insane...
I’m glad to see it’s such a short ping list.

So if I have a suit, sweater or something that I wear for an hour to church, I put it back in the closet, knowing that it doesn’t need to be cleaned after one short wear. If I rent a suit (which requires some transportation to pick it up) to wear for an hour then return it, they need to dry clean it prior to the next customer wearing it.
So, we have a larger carbon footprint in travel and dry cleaning to rent an outfit. These globaloney folks sure don’t think things through.
Just gross.
To live in their enviro perfect world would mean eschewing the use of electricity and petroleum based fuels, having basically one suit of clothes, walking to get everywhere, living on a largely vegan diet and not having “luxuries” like flush toilets. It pretty much would mean moving one’s n of living back to about the 13th century.
For the most part, this strikes me as silly. However, I recently attended a wedding in Europe and learned that the local custom was to rent the wedding dress. Wedding shops rotate their stock annually so as to keep things fashionable. The used dresses are sold at a great discount and typically are used for other dressy occasions. Considering that most wedding gowns cost a small fortune and end up permanently in the attic after being dry cleaned, this seems like a sensible idea. Not mandatory, mind you - just an option.
Low carbon goods seem to consist of glass and nuclear fuel;; now, all we have to do is make cloth from them.
Need some rental boxers?
Shouldn't that be subterranean-area resident attire?
Already on a timeshare with my cousins step sister.......no need to rent.
That made me laugh out loud, so I skyped it to a co-worker and we’re laughing again.
ROTFL!
