RNC Chair Michael Steele was in a feisty mood this morning, but the Democrats weren't his only target. How intentional was that message to the Palin wing of the GOP?
My colleague, ABC News' David Chalian has more...
As any party chairman should, RNC Chairman Michael Steele took the opportunity this morning to crow about GOP victories in New Jersey and Virginia.
But he also seemed to deliver a bit of a rebuke to potential 2012 presidential aspirants in his party such as Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, and Rick Santorum, all of whom immersed themselves in the NY-23 special House race with their endorsements and support for conservative Doug Hoffman who came up short last night.

GD THEM!!!!!
I wondered who’d be the first to beat Palin with this stick. Wish I could say I’m surprised it was “our side.”
Charlie Crist won’t have a DeDe down in Florida.
Rubio will win that battle.
Gee, I wonder who in the GOP ran attack adds against Hoffman up until last week?
I don’t think it was Palinand the right wing.
this POS Steele, needs to be removed.......
NOW!!!!
Steele is bad for us - he CANNOT get the “black vote” (nor the “media sympathy because he is a black”) -— REGARDLESS of what the GOP “leadersh*t in Washington thinks.
I heard him on Hannity last week. He doesn’t get it. The man has to go.

What a weasel. Dumping this pantywaist should be the first order of business for conservatives, by the time the new year starts.
Next to none!
Dispersions are easy to cast .. look to who?, ... and why?
He said essentially nothing to rebuke anyone — laid most of the blame on a botched nominating process.
Stephie is trying to manufacture a civil war.
It doesn’t matter if they “gloss over” it, if WE dont.
Keep it up! Scuzzy was just the first in a long line of Rinos that we are going to bring down.
I will not give another penny to them as long as that moron is there.
If there is anybody who is ‘youtube’ literate (I’m most emphatically NOT!) and is so inclined, it might be a fun exercise to hunt up the video of Michael Steele on Cavuto’s show right after he was promoted to Chairman, RNC...
See/hear what he promised what he was going to do, then compare&contrast with his actions of the past two months....
It was Steele’s fellow CHAIRMEN who lost the 23rd. If he wants to win in New York he needs to call state GOP chairman Ed Cox and tell him to request the resignations of ALL the nys county chairmen - they all stink.
If Steele doesn’t, then he should EXPECT MANY MORE third party challengers from the right.
Conservatives better get the message. One can like Sarah Palin, Pawlenty and Santorum for their conservatism, but they are all very flawed candidates.
Santorum played Republican rather than Conservative.
Pawlenty and Palin just are not experienced enough or knowledgeable enough to draw in the Independents. They lack broader appeal.
We have to find true Conservatives with such appeal.
They are out there.
Are our RNC chairman learnin?
They also ran these rediculous vote “conservative” ads, rather than stating Hoffman’s name.
but let’s face it... Once she dropped out, her votes were going to the liberal...It did’t help that money was spent AGAINST Hoffman.
Bob Beckel on Fox was trashing the Palin wing of the REpublican party this am big time. Actually thanking her for delivering them the NY 23 win.
Steele isn’t the brightest bulb in the pack. It appears the GOP leadership would like Steele to pitch the big tent just left of center.
Screw them all.
“Scuzzy was just the first in a long line of Rinos that we are going to bring down”
His comments will only futher enrage conservatives.
Next Up Charlie Crist.
Afraid of? You knew it was a lock but chose to wish better the moment you accepted the fact that Hoffman had lost. We should all know better. This bunch are complicit in the death of freedom in America.
The RNC’s RINO agenda is as dede as the Dodo.
He knows it too.
schu
He doesn’t help with blacks...if we must have a black chairman, why not Walter Williams?
Could you imagine that? LOL...
YO, BECKEL ... ENJOY it while you CAN.
We, of the ... PALIN WING.. have just STARTED!!!
Ok wise one. Let's hear some names.
I want Steele OUT! NOW!
We cannot afford to keep him around to destroy this movement!
Steele has got to go.
Whenever you get a request for a contribution from the GOP, send them a nasty letter, telling them you are only contributing directly to conservative candidates from now on and CC any Republican Senators, Governors, etc in your district.
Steele has got to go.
Since when did Palin become a “presidentoial aspirant”?
Oh, wait... it’s ABC.
We have got to get rid of Steele.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
Mindreading.
“They are out there.”
Ok, why don’t u throw out a few names.
And enlighten us with your wisdom.
What makes these two less experienced than Obama, Bush or Clinton the later two who had the same set of experience as governor? Independents didn't have a problem flocking to Obama last year who had zero experience at all. I suspect Hoffman did pick up independents here, or he wouldn't have gotten the vote count he did receive.

Ga-ga goo-goo! if you had only voted for the unpricipled abortion loving hag, all would be right in the world! Wah-wah-wah!!!
Piss off RINO’s and all you other wimps out there.
Proof that Steele and the GOP “leadership” is out of touch with the party and is not learning their lessons.
30 days. Keep it in perspective. Are you thinking that those endorsements made Hoffman lose? C'mon. Really?
This is why NY-23 was more important, in my mind, than any other race. The GOP can play the ‘big tent’ card and continue to flush its base.
This is also why I’m done with the RNC, along with a lot of other people on this site.
However, Steele should be careful. Sarah Palin will hopefully be his boss in the not too distant future.
Steele is worthless and weak.
He has to go...
Put it in McDonalds vernacular.
The McGOP hired the MCNegro to McSell the McNegroes.
But the McNegroes didn’t McLike the McMessage
So the McNegroes, figured out the McPandering, and consequently didn’t McBuy it
Steele’s vision is precisely the problem.
I had seen Steele on talk shows and he sounded pretty solid before he was lofted at the RNC. I thought his appointment would be good. Geez, what a major embarrassment this is.
He has got to go. He should step down today.
He did everything he could do to kill Hoffman’s chances, then blames Conservatives when he didn’t win. He gave Scozzafava $900,000 for her war chest.
Is this guy this fricken dumb? He can’t be. So he’s nothing but a Democrat shill. What upsets him the most here is that HIS leftist didn’t win.
Conservatism is a dirty four letter word to this man.
What an ass. He’s just a fraud. He’s not on our side. As such he should step down and get honest work at the DNC.
Could you imagine that? LOL...
:) Yes, I can imagine that. But, I think Dr. Williams would be much, much more than the GOP bargained for.
Conservatives did the right thing and the GOP should keep the “other team’s” players (like “Scoffula”, Graham, Steele, McCain, etc.) out of OUR huddle. “Scoffula” showed her true colors by openly passing to the faux opposition Dim-o-crat.
I knew this was coming as soon as I heard Hoffman had lost. Instead of looking at what really happened, the RNC/Steele is just looking at the R next to Scozzafava’s name. The fact that HOffman went from 20 percent of less support 2 weeks ago, to coming within 4 points of winning is really amazing. It should not discourage anyone, matter of fact, it should encourage other conservatives to challenge RINO candidates, and dems in 2010.
Leave it to Steele and the rest of the inside the beltway goons to draw the wrong lesson from this race.
It was a special election, wasn’t it? Doesn’t the Dem just have a year or so before another election? Will Hoffman run again if this is the case?
He could be replaced by Ken Blackwell....who is black, and also ran for the position!
