London mayor shows chivalry not dead in bike rescue

London Mayor Boris Johnson rescued a woman attacked by a group of girls wielding a metal bar after answering her plea for help during an evening bicycle ride, a spokeswoman for his office said on Wednesday.

Documentary filmmaker Franny Armstrong was confronted by a group of young teenage girls as she was walking in North London on Monday night, media reported.

"I was texting on my phone so didn't notice the girls until they pushed me against the car," the Guardian newspaper quoted Armstrong as saying. "I saw that one of them had an iron bar in her hand. It was more than a meter long."

"Then along came a cyclist. And I thought, 'Good, he's a big bloke,' and shouted, 'Can you help me please?," The Guardian reported.

"I said, 'That's the mayor of London!' and they ran off," Armstrong told the Guardian. "They must have thought they were going to get in trouble. One dropped the bar, so Boris picked it up and cycled after them."

Johnson, a Conservative who read classics at Oxford and was elected mayor in 2008, then walked Armstrong home.

Thank God that, by current British law (enforced by the London mayor), she wasn't allowed to protect herself in any way whatesoever, or even indicate that she was willing to defend herself. After all, one of the girl thugs may have been hurt while trying to beat her to death, and that would be an atrocity.

England is dead and rotting, killed by liberal cowardice, and Islamic maggots are eating it's carcass.

Well, God bless him. He did the right thing. Good thing he’s mayor, though or the police might have wanted to have a word with him...

Is he the same “bloke” that was almost killed a year or so ago while riding a bike in London?

A delivery truck lost control or something in town and smacked a few cars. Unfortunately, there was a cyclist that got caught in the middle of it all...but came out just fine. I think it was all caught on one of the gazillion surveilance cameras in London. I remember thinking he was one very lucky dude. Not sure it was him though.

And it sounds like he stole their iron bar, too!

He was born in NYC. He probably is more eligble to be POTUS than the Kenyan usurper. If he were more conservative he would be awesome. Good job helping this lady.

I suspect the headline in the Guardian would be:

An important footnote to this episode...

"I was texting on my phone so didn't notice the girls until they pushed me against the car," the Guardian newspaper quoted Armstrong as saying.

Texting can get you killed.

Most like members of the British Amish religion. They always go in packs and hunt down documentary film makers./SAR It would be interesting to learn what films this woman has recently worked on.

I honestly don’t know. The UK has a law against “vigilantes,” and it is very broadly worded. He might run afoul of that. Then again, as part of the political class, he might get a pass. The real question probably is whether he is “Inner Party” or “Outer Party” (ref Orwell).
