GUANGZHOU, China, Nov 4 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama's half-brother made a rare appearance on Wednesday in southern China, his home for seven years, to launch a novel he says draws on his painful childhood under an abusive father.
Mark Okoth Obama Ndesandjo -- who had the same, late, father as the U.S. President -- has kept a low public profile since reports surfaced last year that he was living and working in the southern Chinese capitalist and manufacturing haven of Shenzhen, around an hour's train ride from Hong Kong.
After repeatedly shunning media attention, Ndesandjo's first major public appearance to launch his debut novel comes less than two weeks before the U.S. president travels to China for the first time.
While he said his work, "Nairobi to Shenzhen" is a fictional account, it started off nearly 10 years ago as an autobiography and "reflects many experiences in my own life as a child brought up in Kenya" including a troubled relationship with his father.
"My mother used to say of my father, he's a brilliant man but a social failure," Ndesandjo told reporters at a press conference in Guangzhou, near his adopted city of Shenzhen.
"I remember times in my house when I would hear screams and I would hear my mother's pain." His American mother Ruth was his father's third wife.

They did. That is why they put Article II, Section 1, clause 5 in the constitution, that insisted a POTUS be a “natural born citizen.” The fact that this present generation refuses to enforce that provision is no reflection on their genius or the magnificent document that they created.

I have read several articles on this. There are supposed details of their father in Obama’s brothers book. Obama calls his dad a troubled alhoholic. So why did Obama write a book about him?
Wait a minute in his open media reported bios he only had a half sister, right? Was there a brother in a poor hut in Africa? I am confused.

Seems to me he wants to set the record straight in relation to the character of his father. He appears to make it quite clear how much he was traumatised as a child by his violence.

The CV you linked to shows this "Athanasius Ndesanjo Mphuru" receving an MA in West Virginia in 1968.
That would place him as at least 20 years older than Mark, who was born about 1964.
It could be the father-- who knows? Mark doesn't seem very interested in his step-father, who likely funded his expensive education. That sort of reminds me of someone else in the family, who conveniently forgets their stepfather...

Ruth had two sons by Obama: Mark and David. David was born ca 1967 and died in a motorcycle accident ca 1984.
Ruth had a third son, Joseph, by her second husband, Ndesandjo. He was portrayed as a small child in 1988 in "Dreams," so was born about 1983-84.
Obama's first trip to Kenya was in 1988, the summer before he entered Harvard. That's the trip described in the book.
He later said he'd taken his fiancee, Michelle to meet his relatives in Kenya, so that trip took place around 1992. He made a third trip to Kenya in 2006 as a US Senator.
In 1983, Obama was working for Business International Corp. in NYC, as a copy editor. That's been independently verified by former employees of BI. He didn't travel to Kenya that year.
You can quote 'Dreams' to me all day long, but I don't have to swallow it hook line and sinker.

It has been made very clear by a number of sources, including Auma, that Mark was the only one who had documents that PROVED HIS RIGHT TO CLAIM THE ESTATE OF HIS FATHER.
Senior died in 1982. Are you expecting me to believe they waited until 1988 to present themselves in an attempt to claim the estate?
That was also the year, 1983, that Stanley Ann was in Kenya. That's why Kezia was able to say 'when we met, she was like a sister to me...'

Unlike my mum, Ruth has all the documents needed to prove who Mark’s father was. So of all of the Old Man’s kids, Mark’s claim is the only one that’s uncontested.”
I doubt there was much of an estate to lay claim to, aside from the land.
I also doubt Mark had much need of Obama's estate. Ndesandjo was apparently a successful business man, and Ruth's American family is described as wealthy.
He probably had only one thing of value. Documents and letters. I’m glad it’s Mark who has them.
Believe what you want -- there's certainly a wide selection, depending on whatever myth they pull out of a hat. It will definitely lead, as you've said, to "nothing making sense."

It is full of half truths and imagery designed to cover Obama's factual history, which is why Obama has sealed or cauterized much of his hostory, at Occidental, and i t is also one of the reason Obama has spent 2 million bucks or mpore defending eal actions designed to obtain court procedural orders to release Obama's Hawaiian COLB.
At this point, anyone who thinks otherwise is ill informed, or cannot face reality as it is dueto hopeful attachment to the romanticized idea that Obama is America's first black president. He is, in fact, nothing of the sort. He is a foreignor who has traduced our nation, and his daily conduct and policy decisions prove that fact.
Of course it is, but it is the source of the image and the mania. In order to debunk it, you have to read it, something 99% of those posting on these threads haven't done. They shrink from it as if it were some evil talisman that will somehow poison their minds, yet they quote continuously from it by cutting and pasting out-of-context excerpts found online, or news stories that simply parrot and embellish on the book.
Anyone that says they've done research on Obama, but hasn't read the book, is intellectually dishonest.
Jack Cashill has done some great work proving that Obama couldn't have written the book, and in the process, debunked some of the story itself. Could he have done that without reading it? And if he had, would you consider his work to have any credibility?

I agree about what you say about those who hold out that they research Obama.
But I did not need to do research to reach my conclusions about Obama. I had seen him before, when I lived in Canada. Then his name was Pierre Elliot Trudeau, a nationalist socialist, romantic notion that almost destroyed Canada.
Page 341-344 of Dreams from My Father describes a meeting of Obama and his father's third wife, Ruth, and her son Mark Ndesandjo (then a single student) at the home of Ruth and her second husband, in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as a subsequent lunch meeting of Obama and Mark alone in the summer of 1988.

An article in the UK Telegraph, dated November 13, 2009, titled "Obama to meet half-brother on China visit," begins as follows:
US President Barack Obama hopes to meet his half-brother Mark Ndesandjo and his sister-in-law during his first official visit to China.
Ndesandjo and his Chinese wife live in Shenzhen - a southern city neighbouring Hong Kong - and plan to fly to Beijing to meet his famous relative.
"It will be the first time for Mark to introduce his wife to President Obama," a spokeswoman for AmCham in South China said.
Ndesandjo told China's state-run Xinhua news agency that he wanted his wife, who is from the central eastern province of Henan, to meet the US president as "she is one of Obama's loyal fans".
An interview with Obama in China by CNN's Ed Henry, on November 18, 2009, begins with the following exchange:
EH: "I was at your town hall in Shanghai, and you joked about how an Obama family gathering would be like the United Nations with all the different backgrounds. So you have a half-brother who lives here in China. Have you had a chance to meet with him during this trip, and what do you make of his book where he says that the father you share used him?
BHO: "Well, you know, I don't know him well. I met him for the first time a couple of years ago. He stopped by with his wife for about five minutes during a trip. I haven't read the book. But it's no secret that my father was a troubled person. Everybody'd who's read my first book, "Dreams from My Father," knows that he had an alcoholism problem, that he didn't treat his families very well, and, uh, so, obviously, it's a sad part of my history and my background, but it's not something that I don't spend a lot of time going over."
Obama never answered the question of whether he met with Mark in China, of course, and Henry didn't bother re-asking. And why the lie about meeting Mark? Did he or Ayers make up the meetings and the conversations in the book? Is Mark lying about his wife never having met Obama? Is Obama brain-damaged or strung out on some drug? Did the Chinese government have some objection to Mark? Stay tuned indefintely, because the media will never answer it.
