A divided party: Progressives threaten Democratic lawmakers (over Obamacare)
Washington Examiner ^ | 11/3/2009 | Byron York

Posted on 11/04/2009 5:54:06 AM PST by markomalley

MoveOn.org is sending out emails today seeking more contributions for its campaign to defeat any Democratic senator who does not fully support Obamacare. Yesterday the left-wing activist group asked members to contribute "to a primary challenge against any Democratic senator who helps Republicans block an up-or-down vote on health care reform." Today, MoveOn reports that it has received $2 million in pledges in less than 24 hours. "It's a clear sign of how angry progressives would be at any Democrat who helps filibuster reform," MoveOn executive director Justin Ruben writes in the new email.

"The larger the war chest we can offer a potential challenger, the stronger the signal we'll send to conservative Democrats," Ruben continues. "So we're setting a huge new goal: $3 million in total pledges by the end of the week. That's plenty to launch a serious primary challenge."

MoveOn is already planning radio ads targeting Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu and Arkansas Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln over the health care issue.

MoveOn's new campaign comes amid much discussion in the political world of divisions among Republicans, with many analysts reading the presence of third-party candidates in New York's 23rd District and in New Jersey, and coming primary battles in Florida and elsewhere, as proof of deep, and perhaps disastrous, divisions inside the GOP. One publication recently dubbed it a "nightmare scenario" for Republicans. But MoveOn's new threat of primary attacks on Democratic lawmakers suggests that the story might be a bit one-sided. Democrats who stray from progressive orthodoxy might be in for big trouble -- and the divisions inside the Democratic party might be just as big a deal as the problems inside the GOP.

This is good, actually. Anytime there is truth instead of obfuscation, truth generally wins out.

The ‘rats have a majority because of “conservative democrats” winning in conservative districts and voting for Pelosi and her policies.

If a ‘rat is a true ‘rat, ie, a socialist, in a conservative district, s/he won’t win, because the truth will not be hidden.

Moveon.org thinks far too highly of itself.

They have NO WHERE else to go! They will have to suck it up, moderate their views, compromise, smell the coffee, realize that the rest of the world is NOT as Marxist as they are!

This will actually give the Blue Dogs cover, they can come out AGAINST these pressure groups from the Left.

If Moveon.org has all of this “clout” -— what the heck just happened in NJ and VA????

MoveOn.org Threatens Democrats Over ‘Public Option’

The left-wing organization MoveOn.org is warning that any Democrat who joins Republicans in filibustering the “public-option” insurance plan will lose support from the organization’s 5 million members.

MoveOn.org issued the threat in an e-mail to its supporters on Tuesday, one day after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that the Senate’s version of a healthcare reform bill would include the government-run insurance program.

The group said it surveyed its members and found that 93 percent agreed that “any senator who helps block an up-or-down vote on a healthcare bill with the public option should lose the support of all five million of us — no donations, no volunteering, and no help getting out the vote.”

Although it supports Reid’s bill, MoveOn.org takes issue with a provision that would give states a path to opt out of the public option.

“The ‘opt-out’ version of the public option has real problems,” the group’s e-mail stated.

“The most conservative states in the country would likely opt out, potentially leaving millions of uninsured folks without access to the affordable healthcare a public option would provide.”

Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, an independent Democrat, has already said he would back a GOP filibuster of Reid’s bill because of its inclusion of the public option.

York hits it right on the head.

The truth is the Dems and their media minions have foisted on the U.S. the most extreme, far left president in history. The extremists are on the left and are seeking to enact health care and cap-and-trade legislation that would fundamentally alter the nation. For the media to call conservatives extremists is laughable. All conservatives want is a smaller, less intrusive government, a balanced budget, and respect for American traditions.

I agree. Let those Blue Dogs know that they are going to have to choose: vote with the President and lose your seat as a consquence; or jump ship completely to the Republican party. Make it very clear that there is going to be no in-between here, Move-on.org. Its the best thing you could possibly do for us.

$2 million dollars in pledges is not money received. I could pledge $20 million, but unless that money is received, it counts for nothing more that hyperbole.

This is funny.

The Democratic party is having an internal Civil War among the Marxist-Leninist Wing vs the Trotskyite Wing, yet the 'State Owned Media'(1) only focuses on 'divisions' within the GOP and if it needs to move further to the left in order to, "gain the independents".

So the day I see a NY Times article saying, 'Democrats Move To Right To Gain Independents', I'll know I woke up in an alternate universe.

You bet that this is exactly what they will do in 2010 but they will only say that but as soon as they get elected they will go back to their leftist roots.

Dear Governor Perry,

On March 30, 2009 the Texas House of Representatives passed HCR 50 affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment.

You have publicly supported this bill, and stated that attorney generals from all over the union could be getting ready to sue the US Government.

We are asking you to take the lead.

We are asking you to order the Texas Attorney General to publicly begin working on a law suit under Article IV, Ninth, and Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.

We are asking you to protect the citizens of Texas that we will not stand for government controlled healthcare in our state.

Under your leadership we can effectively kill the proposal of this administration and allow Texas to be a state free from socialism and collectivism.

Be the voice of reason in the national debate and allow Texans the ability to solve the problems of our state.

Thank you,

Facts about the 10th Amendment:

The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution’s principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.

HCR 50 HAS PASSED THE HOUSE 99-36!
Affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution, serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates, and providing that certain federal legislation be prohibited or repealed.

Take Action! Before it is too late!

REMEMBER THIS,TEXANS:

Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress

“One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchison’s amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.”
