Clinton: US wants Israel settlement halt 'forever'
AP ^ | 11-4-09 | ROBERT BURNS

Posted on 11/04/2009 5:34:01 AM PST by SJackson

CAIRO — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton defended the U.S. stance toward Israeli settlement building to worried Arab allies on Wednesday, saying Washington does not accept the legitimacy of the West Bank enclaves and wants to see their construction halted "forever."

Still, she said an Israeli offer to restrain — but not halt — construction represents "positive movement forward" toward resuming Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.

Clinton met for an hour with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during a hastily arranged stopover in the Egyptian capital to soothe Arab concerns that Washington is backing off demands for an Israeli settlement halt. The fears were sparked on Saturday when Clinton, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at her side in Jerusalem, praised his government's offer as unprecedented.

She has since tried to clarify the remarks, saying that the Israeli offer does not got far enough. Still, she has indicated that the Palestinians should resume negotiations with Israel without a full settlement halt as they demand.

On Wednesday, Clinton insisted "our policy on settlement has not changed."

I wonder how the Obama administration would handle another country dictating how many houses the USA would be allowed to build or re-build?

Then again, Obama-ites would probably agree with a foreign country dictating how we develop our country. You know, strength through weakness, appease those who threaten, and the “America is really evil” tours on 16 different countries are just invitations for another country to threaten and perhaps attack us.

It’s very simple. Israel should tell HRC to go straight to hell (and she undoubtedly will anyway).

You might be surprised, no one has inquired. I believe he's allowing a UN commission in to investigate US housing practices. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2374128/posts. And he's open to international "suggestions" as to what we drive and our industrial practices. But no other country would be as direct as Hillary, nor change it's mind day to day. Next time she's in Israel she'll be explaining she really meant was was what she meant before she explained to the Arabs what we really, really mean. Lying is no way to conduct negotiations.

The Obama team reminds me so often that when a dog chases it's own tail, it always ends up right back where it started.

The same analogy applies to any peace initiative between Israel, occupying her ancestral birth right, and any Arab/Muslim group or state. Nothing will come of the initiative, except maybe the next Middle East war.

A solution has already been invented: verticle land expansion instead of horizontal. One Rincon Hill in SF sits on 1.3 acres with ample space for 2,000 people to live there in luxury. Israel needs to give the Neanderthals their land back and change to technological solutions.

Hillary Clinton: “Apartheid is fine as long as you’re doing it to Jews.”

Those who believe the Scriptures know that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has other ideas.

I’m confident about who will prevail in the long run, no matter how it may look in the short run.

Israel was established as an independant nation several thousand years ago - their mistake was not totally wiping said "Neanderthals" off the face of the earth as they were instructed to do.

Uh-uh. That’s Israel’s land. God gave it to them thousands of years ago. “Palestinians” are a new construct, like A.C.O.R.N and Quaanza.

So were the American Indian nations. Do the Indians now have the right to occupy your backyard and build housing, or annex land around their reservations? Israel did not buy these properties from willing sellers. They took them during war. Trying to annex this land over time has been a major source of trouble. Do they really need these bits of sand and have they secured legal title, or is it they like to fight and don't mind dragging America into it?

Christian Conservatives like me are on their side.

Israel was founded by socialists, runs communes, has socialized healthcare, high taxes, bossy government, and has eyes on territorial expansion, all right out of the socialist utopia playbook. How is this different than Saddam's or Hitler's paradise? Would you be on France's side if they decided to build communist housing in Germany? Israel needs to knock it off and stay within their legal borders, and stop causing expensive problems for America.

"Israel was established as an independant nation several thousand years ago...."

Several differences:
American Indians were not a "nation" existing as an entity among other nations.
American Indians were pagans.
The nation of Israel (people and land) was chosen and appointed by God - unless you consider the Bible just another collection of fables (supported by extensive archeology discoveries and parallel historic texts).
Present day Israel is a modern society surrounded by failed states stuck in the eighth-century.
Israel is an ally in a region where America is hated.

And this ally helped us how during the Gulf Wars? They're an ally we can not use for anything. Conservatives have been manipulated into supporting a socialist state. Let the left stick up for them. It's their kind. I'm not getting why we should support Israel settling occupied land.

"I'm not getting why we should support Israel settling occupied land."

This was land that:
a) belonged to the original Israel nation under Solomon.
b) was granted to them under the original Balfour Treaty (but got screwed out of some of it by, who else: France)
c) Was won back during a war started by their opponents who had overwhelming numerical superiority - and they have alreday ceded back to those same opponents HUGE tracts of that hard-won land.
(d) They may be socialist (who isn't these days) but they are at least a Democracy.

The Indians weren’t given the land in writing by God Himself.

BI-I-I-G difference!

The Israelites’ title deed reads “From the Great Sea (The Mediterranean) to the great river (The Euphrates). About 300,000 square miles. They have never yet occupied more than about 30,000 square miles of it, but, considering who their Landlord, Lawyer and Judge is, I think it’s a sure thing that they will live in all 300,000 square miles.

Just wait till He gets back!

Clinton: Washington does not accept the legitimacy of the West Bank enclaves and wants to see their construction halted "forever."

Hardly a surprise that she reverts back toward pandering to the Arab states and Islamists when she's out in the Arab world. In fact, she said something similar in Morocco yesterday. After all, she's the same "Royal Thighness" who planted a kiss on Mrs. Arafat after the latter made a speech insulting Israel.

Hopefully, "Washington" will be changing sooner rather than later and a new Administration will recognize that Israel has sovereignty over Israeli territory. Israel doesn't tell the US or any other country where to build within that country's borders - provided that building poses no threat to Israel's security. The US should do likewise with respect to Israel.

More generally, this represents the same perverse Obama foreign policy scheme: pander to our natural enemies and insult our natural allies.

The land in question was purchased by the undisputed owners of the land at a fair price.

The only issue with the PRIVATE transaction is that the new owners are Jewish.

I like Jewish people very much. I don't like communists and socialists. They are driven by envy which is evil. Most human evolution occurs during tribal warfare, which is sparked by envy. The Jews have had an inordinate amount of envy directed at them, resulting in an inordinate amount of human evolutionary pressure. The result is the remaining Jews alive today are the smartest people on Earth, which results in more envy, forming a loop. Many Jews have discovered leftism for the purpose of envy deflection, have found it more expedient to appease than defeat evil. Other Jews enjoy a good fight, but never kill off their tormentors completely out of sport. These are the ones with the brass to build properties in occupied land. A) that's wrong, B) that's stupid, C) it's not America's problem when they get attacked.

If they buy it or win it in war, yes.

Israel did not buy these properties from willing sellers.

1. Jews bought quite a bit of land on which many "settlements" are located."
2. We are citizens of a settler nation without the historical claims of Israel. Stop undermining America.

Trying to annex this land over time has been a major source of trouble. Do they really need these bits of sand and have they secured legal title, or is it they like to fight and don't mind dragging America into it?
1. Land that Jews have purchased such as the Etzion Block are considered settlements. You are either ignorant or misinforming others.
2. Greece, Spain, most of the Balkans, southern Italy were all Muslim occupied. Would you sell them out too?

Wow, where to begin?
Israel was founded by socialists, liberals, libertarians, and religious nationalists. And you are putting youself in political alignement wit hthe post-Zionist left and communists. What does that make you?

Israel doesn't commit genocide or mass murder. Israeli Arabs are the best off in the middle east and the Arabs of the disputed territories were far better off under Israeli rule than their cousins in Jordan.

Of course, the US has subsidized housing all over land we took from the native paleolithic peoples. Why are you undermining America? Would you be on France's side if they decided to build communist housing in Germany?
France occuped Alscace and Lorraine. They were just smart enough to ethnically cleanser the Germans.

Rationalization: the process of constructing a logical justification for a belief, decision, action or lack thereof that was originally arrived at through a different mental process. It is a defense mechanism in which perceived controversial behaviors or feelings are explained in a rational or logical manner to avoid the true explanation of the behavior or feeling in question.

This is an emotional subject for you and you're all over the map. If Israel wants the disputed real estate they should negotiate like America did: the Louisiana Purchase, Alaska Purchase, Florida Purchase, etc. They should not follow Saddam's method of taking Kuwait which started the first Gulf War, or Hitler's taking Poland which started WWII.
