Michael Barone pointed out on Fox last night that McDonnell won in a rout in three particular freshmen VA Dem congressional districts. Dems in similar districts across the country are shaking in their boots.

Very good result. My fear is that the republicans will look at NJ and VA and IGNORE the debacle in NY 23.

Steele should resign, but he'll use the wins to show he's doing a good job.

I will never listen to Newt again. His mind has left him.

The blue dogs are much more scared by what happened in VA rather than NJ. This was a clear shot across their bow.

“The blue dogs are much more scared by what happened in VA...”

Here’s my take...and why the Blue Dogs should be scared:

In Virginia..
1. Independents went republican 2 to 1

2. There wasn’t ‘ticket splittling’.. ticket splitting is ‘normal’ in Virginia. This is only the second time Republicans have won the top three spots, Gov. Lt. Gove and Attorney General.

Independents voted straight republican.

3. Democratic turnout of key groups

a. The young.. much less than 2008 but 2008 their turnout was far above normal
b. People of Color... less than 2008 but 2008 was above historical norm.

c. Older voters...turnout was heavy and the voted republican.
d. Fairfax County voted for the Republican for the first time since 1997, republicans pick up 2 state house seats in Fairfax...I live in Fairfax, Fairfax is BLUE!!!??

Forget about it being about Obama...it is about the word “Democrat”.

4. The press cites Deeds as a poor candidate...BULL! Deeds did the exact same thing as every other Democrat has done in this state for the last dozen years: he tried to paint the republican an a right-wing Neanderthal! This time it didn’t work.

This was a vote against ‘Democrat’.

Seemingly unrelated to all of this, but I'm convinced I was right . . .

I said months ago that Obama's reaction to the Henry Louis Gates incident in Boston would be remembered as the day his popularity -- along with the electoral prospects of Democrats among independent voters -- would experience a sudden, tangible decline that would last for a long time.

All the establishment politicial analysts told us that liberal yuppies in the northern Virginia suburbs would never vote for a social conservative. What happened?
