Borden: Illegal workers in Huntington Beach are Americans
OC Register ^ | 11/03/2009 | Bill Borden

Posted on 11/04/2009 4:26:50 AM PST by iowamark

Underprivileged Mexican immigrants – legal or otherwise – are everywhere in Huntington Beach. At car washes, behind the mowers, in kitchens and in strawberry fields, they toil at jobs we won't do for wages we can't live on. And, yet, many people resent their being here at all.

Some of those whom I know are here legally; many are not. And, frankly, I don't care.

Those who took horrendous risks to get into our country and who live in constant fear of deportation are here to build a better life for themselves and their children...

Unfortunately, it is politically expedient to be tough on illegal immigration. But anti-illegal immigration activists ignore three historical, religious and humanitarian building blocks of America:

1. California and New Mexico territory was once owned by Mexico. President James K. Polk forced its sale to the United States by winning the Mexican-American War, which he provoked in the first place. Source: whitehouse.gov/about/presidents

2. These immigrants are made in the image and likeness of God, and he surely expects us to have compassion for them.

3. As Emma Lazerus states on the Statue of Liberty, these hard-working Mexican-Americans are the poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free. We are America, and we should be proud to "lift our lamp beside the golden door" for them.

There is no place for hatred aimed at undocumented Mexican-Americans in our hometown. And no matter how people like to dress it up politically, that's exactly what it is.

In a time of great economic downturn, Americans WILL work any job they need to pay their bills and feed their families.

I don’t see this bleeding heart mention the

1)BILLIONS of dollars they COST the American taxpayer.

2)The Billons of dollars a year they send back home, thus hurts American economy and

3) the millions of Seniors citizens and American Veterans who built this country and fought for this country who should be getting free medical and prescpription THAT THE ILLEGAL ALIENS are getting!!

This “writer” must be bursting with compassion. How about an alternative view? Maybe these wonderful individuals (the illegal aliens) should respect America’s laws, stay in their own loser countries and try to improve their countries for their wonderful children. As an aside, has the write let these wonderful people live in his house and eat at his table? If not, he is a hypocrite. Wait a minute, I know. I get it! The rest of us are supposed to pay for them, support them and give from our wallets. Feh!

You could arguably say the same thing about terrorists. Even the part about building a better future for their children which they would consider as accomplished if they ran the Western countries out of the Middle East. Why do I make that analogy? Because terrorists can enter with illegals and hide among them until they are ready to carry out their mission.

You gotta love the lefty "logic". Since parts of the Southwest USA once belonged to mexico, we shouldn't be able to enforce our immigration laws in these areas. What an absolute moron.

If we gave that whole area back to mexico, all of the illegals who fled from mexico would simply flee again. They lefties don't get the fact that it isn't the geography, it is the government and the mexican system in general.

Most Mexicans don't want to live under the failed Mexican government which is why they risk their lives to come here to take menial jobs. Why should they expect that those who left mexico would suddenly want to stay in mexico if only the border were extended a little further north?

I just sent Bill Borden an email asking him the following

Bill,

'How about Islamic - fascists who work hard to come here on fake student visas and learn to fly airplanes into skyscrapers in NYC on September 11, 2009? Are they Americans too?'

I did this to see if his response would be a form letter like the one from my U.S. Senator on this very subject.

Or will he is just accuse me of being a racist and then report me to the U.S. Department Homeland Security?

You have 2 families... “Joe Legal” and “Jose Illegal.” Both families have two parents and two children, and both live in California.

“Joe Legal” works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted.

“Jose Illegal” also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash “under the table”.

Joe Legal... $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week = $52,000 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax. Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal... $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week = $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays for Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage ... $1000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $19,231.00.

Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money to be eligible for Food Stamps or Welfare so Joe Legal pays for food... $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal is now in the hole -<$4,769.00>.

Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy, which entirely pays his rent of $500.00 per month = $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays and gets a part time job after work to make ends meet.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal’s and Jose Illegal’s children both attend the same school.

Joe Legal pays for his children’s lunches while Jose Illegal’s children get free government sponsored lunches.

Joe Legal’s children go home after school. Jose Illegal’s children have an after school ESL program which, again, is provided free of charge.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services, but Joe Legal paid for them and Jose Illegal did not pay.

Someone forgot the Barf alert...

The long and the short of it: There are legal ways to get into the US. These folks don’t have to break the law to get here. They choose to break the law. The responsibility is theirs, not mine and not yours. They are criminals.

We absolutely must secure the borders. It’s time to take back the country.

Maybe someone should remind Bill that as I was leaving that cesspool known as California (specifically, one town over from HB), there was a movement afoot to give all day-laborers and other illegals a “living wage” of at least $15/hour. Now color me stupid, but isn’t that more than DOUBLE the minimum wage? In a state which has over 12 percent unemployment, you’re asking for what, exactly?

Their very presents depresses those same wages.
You wouldn’t be paying $5 per hour for kitchen help if there weren’t a glut of illegals to take those jobs. In their absence, the local market would set those wages at a higher rate.

Enough to live on? Probably not.
But, people aren’t expected to live on those wages. That’s what high school kids used to use for gas and date money. No longer, thanks to the illegals.

Sounds like somebody likes getting his lawn mowed cheap.

They can eliminate that fear by going back to their own country.

These immigrants are made in the image and likeness of God, and he surely expects us to have compassion for them.

I'd have more compassion if they stopped breaking our laws and moved back home.

As Emma Lazerus states on the Statue of Liberty

I don’t think most people aim to hate immigrants just because they’re immigrants. Someone wants to work here? Fine, do it legally. Follow the laws of this country. Learn the language, like you would have to do in any other country. And whack the employers who hire the illegals and pay them “the wages we can’t live on”.

Clean your own car, or toilet, or change your own baby's diaper, and cut your own grass, until you are willing to pay the actual cost it cost the rest of us to pay for health care and education for your cheap wages.

Straight outta the Bill Ayers playbook: America is illegitimate.

If he believes this, why does he claim to "own" property? He's on Mexican dirt according to him. Why is he squatting? Aren't they within their rights to evict him?

Bill Boring's bozon count is pegging out my BS meter.

Can't believe Dana Rorawhoozis R-Calif. endorsed this bucket of guts.

Thanks for posting the info, btw.

Interesting that Boring quotes, in no particular order, Catholic "liberation theology", Emma Lazarus (a Communist poetess, someone has said -- was she? -- who reinterpreted the Statue of Liberty, i.e. "populated it with her own intentions" as the lit-crit Marxist frauds would say), and Mexican historical revanchists and their slightly biased recital of history.

No real Americans in there -- but that's the whole idea, isn't it?

Maybe Boring thinks that if he is nice to the illegals, they'll be nice back to him, when they and their self-appointed MeCha leaders like Villaraigosa and Bustamante start running white people out of California with fire and sword. (Santa Anna tried that in Texas, but hey, it hasn't been tried in California yet -- it might still work!)

No, no, he's just throwing out the famous OBL talking point that Leftist scum and RiNO's ("economic conservatives") agree on, viz., that illegal immigrants are better than you are.

The Leftists would put it, "Illegals are poor, therefore they are preemptively virtuous -- more virtuous, and more authentic -- than you."

RiNO's would put it, "Illegals work for me cheaper than you do, so I want them to take your place, live in your house, and have your job so I can pay them less."
