Don't get sucked into attacking the Pawns (Lebanon, Gaza). Go for the Pieces (Syria, Iran). The Pieces don't give a crap about losing Pawns. There's no deterrence there.
The Pawns certainly won't be deterred. The only thing they know is being Pawns. They'll fire rockets from the rubble as readily, more readily, as from standing mosques and schools. Israel will only lose allies, and respect, and damage itself.
No. Plaster the crap out of several Iranian National Guard bases instead and, if doable, drop in some special forces to shoot the survivors in the head. Ignore the proxies. Rack up a death toll among the players. (This, btw, is what Reagan should have done in response to the Lebanon truck bombings, instead of the ineffective offshore shelling by the Battleship Iowa.
