Breaking News: Fox News Projects: Democrat Owens Wins Race for New York's 23rd Congressional District
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
This makes Owens an immediately endangered Blue Dog.
On to 2010!
Sure, Fox, sure.
Owens: Blue Dog of Newt
Fine, we will get Owens next year when the GOP nominates a real candidate and both Conservatives and the GOP stand behind that candidate rather than having DeDe playing spoiler. Bank on it.
And to my friends in the MSM I say, “Spin Away!!!” but every blue dog in congress and every dem in an unsafe district knows that Hoffman ran as a THIRD PARTY candidate and still almost won this thing. You can declare that conservatives have been taught a lesson all you want but at the end of the day, I am afraid YOU are the one’s that have drawn the wrong conclusion.
if GOP picked Hoffman instead of Scoffa, then he would’ve won. Scoffa got 6k of the votes even though she pulled out. Who voted for her? Probably those GOPers who vote party line without realizing she has already pulled out
If the democrat wins, I am sad that Hoffman lost. However, I would rather have the democrat win than the POS RINO. We will take it back in 2010 with a good candidate, maybe even Hoffman.
I’m surprised Newt didn’t throw his support to the democrat too.
The GOP establishment gift wrapped the NY 23 for the Democrats.
Stinking Newt is a DIABLO, serial divorcee and adulterer.
WHAT???????????????????
I thought the Conservative was leading in all the polls?!
If the party has a lick of sense (which I doubt they do) they'd be getting Hoffman ready for a rematch, this time as the ENDORSED candidate.
The New York state Republican Party screwed this up royally, with the complicity of people like Newt, who apparently has gone soft in the head. People in New York ought to think about cleaning house.
I’m not from the district, but I simply don’t understand why we didn’t win this one. It was very clear choice.
I’m coming to the realization that our position on issues do not have the numbers for electoral victories. I passionately feel that we are right on the issue though.
With demographic changes and a corrupt press, we are in trouble. This “rebellion” can’t be won at the ballot box.
SO TRUE!!!!!!!!
In the future, “Scazzafava” will have a different meaning, just as “Lewinsky” does.
There are 11,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted. Fulton county had a total failure of their voting machines and their votes won’t be counted until next week.
I think it is too early to determine the election.
Something smells rotten in upper state New York!
YOU said it BROTHER!!!!!!!!
Bummer! but he didn’t lose by all that much. The next ones won’t be on such short notice.
Symbolically, it could have spoke volumes.
Not that VA or NJ didn't. They are great news. But we had some high profile people involved in this race.
I was channel switching between Fox, PMSNBC (who had the absolute worst coverage), and CNN. I was surprised none of the Democrat commentators made mention of the fact that Sarah Palin went to bat for Hoffman and sent him money from her PAC, but he still lost.
I think we sure have work left to do here, folks, if we had Rush, Sean, Glenn, Sarah, Mark Levin, the Thompsons, ALL pushing Hoffman in the last few weeks but he still lost.
I don’t know: maybe people didn’t want to vote for someone who looked like Barney Fife. I guess voters CAN be that shallow: look how many women voters voted for Barry O because of his looks.
It is not the RNC or NRCC as neither one of them had a say in who was picked.
This whole fiasco lies at the feet of the NY CD-23 county chairs who chose who along with the NY State GOP Chair who turned a blind eye to the selection process.
RNC and NRCC are required by the Rules of the Republican Party to support the Republican candidate. They did not control her nomination in any way shape or form.
Blame the right people — CD-23 GOP County Chairs and the NY State GOP Chair.
I agree. I think Hoffman has a lot of name recognition nationwide, and could get enough financial backing to crush Owens the second time around, this time on the official GOP ticket. This by-election may be over, but the grudge match is on.
Mojave’s wetdream comes true?
Early voting perhaps.
(Do they have that?)
Once again the rats outsmarted the GOP. UGH!
I really liked the idea of a conservative citizen politician CPA going to Congress.
One has to wonder if Dede, or whatever her name is, had not been confronted with Hoffman would she have won? Looks like it. Not that I wanted a RINO...but in a way Newt was right.
We should not focus on this one election. We sent a message to the Rino’s We will win next year. Rove said which no one else will cover all the local wins in Pitt. and Michigan and Virginia.
BITE your tongue!
"We are not going to put up with any more RINO candidates!!!"
“The GOP establishment gift wrapped the NY 23 for the Democrats.”
That’s not how it will be spun. Forget that a 3rd party candidate almost won this race. From the Dems the spin will be “this is proof that America is turning liberal”, and from the GOP it’ll be “This is proof that you people should shut up and do what you’re told”.
This needs repeating again -
“If GOP picked Hoffman instead of Scoffa, then he wouldve won. Scoffa got 6k of the votes even though she pulled out. Who voted for her? Probably those GOPers who vote party line without realizing she has already pulled out.”
Although some may have voted early before she pulled out, with her name still on the ballot, there are more than a few who saw the “R” and voted for her. They are of the vote for the Republican, no matter what, crowd.
Bingo! There must be consequences for all the county chairs who selected Scozzafava. Demand their immediate resignations. Michael Steele should face a serious grilling here. It is not enough to say that he (Steele) did not have a say in this choice by county chairs.
Newt Gingrich should be considered “yesterday” and not receive a dime’s worth of attention anymore. Boehner and Romney need to embrace solid conservative positions (economic and social) or be relegated to footnotes and ouster. In short, no more RINOs.
If they redistrict NY, they will make that district a strong dem district and Owens will be a lock for as long as they want him to be.
Thanks a bunch Newt.
3rd party candidates get Democrats elected. How many times does this scenario have to play out before the message sinks in. Don’t blame the RNC, blame the guy who tore the GOP candidates legs out from under her. Blame those who supposedly opposed Owens but guaranteed that he’d win. I can’t say it enough 3rd party candidates get Democrats elected. Owens should send Hoffman candy and flowers for all the help.
Who would have thought that an election in my home state would be the event that would render Newt “the quintessential D.C.” insider useless as far as right wing politics is concerned. The proof is in the pudding, see how well Newt’s next book will sell.
Shepherd Smith......may have to eat his call on the win.
This makes me very sad.
Symbolically, it could have spoke volumes.
Not that VA or NJ didn’t. They are great news. But we had some high profile people involved in this race.
I feel the same way. But consider NJ, where “The Lightbringer” (how Luciferian by the way) made repeated, full bore efforts to get his guy reelected.
He will be walking funny tomorrow, and the curdled milk expression on Michelle’s face will probably knock passing birds dead right out of the sky.
And now . . . I can finally say it.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM PROUD OF NEW JERSEY!
And it’s a special election race, Hoffman may get another chance soon!
Scoffa got 6k of the votes even though she pulled out. Who voted for her? Probably those GOPers who vote party line without realizing she has already pulled out.

Seems like a case that lawyers should be able to Frankenize.
Yes I didn’t even know there were statewide elections in PA til Rove mentioned Republicans won several, including for state supreme court.
Re: NY 23 that is a shame but realistic pundits were right. Hoffman came almost out of nowhere, with no major party support or funding, and he almost won. That’s quite an accomplishment. It is a shame though the GOP didn’t get their act together and nominate a more mainstream candidate who everyone could get behind. Then he or she could have won this race and it would have been an even more humiliating defeat for B0 and the Dems. Now they have some bragging rights, even though NJ and VA were much bigger wins.
How many votes for Dede were absentee ballots submitted by voters who did not know she would drop out?
So you think that even a liberal, as long as the “R” is after her name, is the way to go?
“look how many women voters voted for Barry O because of his looks.”
I’me male but you would have to explain his “good looks” to me, I can’t see it!
The message was, “Hey, we’re gonna help the Democrat get elected, but we’re too damned dumb to know it.” Some message. Needs work. 3rd party candidates get Democrats elected. It put Clinton in power, it put Henry in power in OK (thanks PKM), and some states were so close in 2000 that GW’s victory would have never been in doubt had Buchanan’s numbers not taken from GW and given the states to Gore.
I agree. RINO are just Democrat Lite.
Seconded.

As a conservative woman I’ve always thought he looked goofy, with that wart on his nose and those big ears, and that fake smile. But there is no accounting for DEMOCRAT women’s tastes in men. ;)
There is a place to challenge Republicans, in the primaries. In instances like NY23 where there wasn’t one, wait until there is one. In this case it would have been a year. Instead, we’ll have a Democrat incumbent next time around. Yeah, that worked out.
