Until there’s confirmation, it’s election night propaganda.

Then they would have already been counted.

Most of those votes are likely from military overseas and those tend to go heavily conservative.

I smell a rat...

Wouldn’t absentee votes be more likely to go to Scuzzy than to Hoffman, given that his campaign was relatively unknown until recently?

If Fort Drum’s votes are still pending, then I feel really good about this since military votes go more conservative than the current Gallup split that’s been referenced several times already.

Could very well be...hard to make up 4200 votes anyway.

11,000 absentee ballots? Hoffmans’ down by 4200 votes, and been consistently down by 3 points or more all night... so unless something draws those numbers much closer, 11,000 votes aren’t going to swing it IMHO.

We killed a RINO, and may have to accept that victory tonight. I’ll keep hoping for the best here.

And I’ll enjoy NJ, VA and Gay Marriage is being rejected in MN. Taking this seat would have been nice, but if it doesn’t happen I blame it squarely on the fools who put up DEDE in the first place, had a conservative had the R nomination in the first place they would have won.

STILL a 5000 vote margin between the two, with diehard Deedee voters giving her, at this point something like 5000 votes for herself. NOBODY should be conceding,or making victory speeches until all those absentee ballots are counted, if indeed there are 11000 votes to count.

That’s weird - in San Diego County, the deadline for submitting absentee ballots is far enough in advance of the election, that all the absentees are already counted before the election even takes place.

I know that information because I’m an absentee voter and have been for several years.

You are right. Hoffman was running third up until about a week ago, so early absentee votes are unlikely to help him.

If there are that many absentee ballots in NY-23, I'd put a patrol out on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Scavenged ballot box lids haunt S.F. elections

The corrugated plastic ballot box lids, each marked with the city seal and the words "Provisional and Absentee Ballots," first raised the concerns of election watchdogs shortly after the city's November election, when eight of them were found near the Golden Gate Bridge by the crew of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel.

Since then, despite assurances from city elections Director Tammy Haygood that the box lids merely blew into the bay while election workers cleaned them on a city pier, the issue has resurfaced time and again.

NY23 is a very important race--close to par with the two gubernatorial races.

The absentees are not likely to bail us out--the R candidate got out too late to help; most of the ballots were filled out when she was still ahead of Hoffman.

Your best hope is that many of the remaining precincts are rural and will tend to vote Conservative. The spread is fairly wide but there is some reason to hope.

I think Hoffman has done a hell of a job considering he had NO support from a party. If the GOP doesn't pay attention to this we'll have to double our efforts to make them listen.

Locally, our Republican state senator voted twice for porkulus, for cash & clunkers, and for cap & trade. I won't be surprised if he doesn't vote for obamacare, though he says he won't. His excuse so far has been since he won't be running for re-election he can do what he wants with no fall out. I've pledged that whomever he endorses as the next Republican candidate I will actively campaign against.

Someone here stated a day or two ago something along the lines of, I'd rather KNOW who my enemy is then vote for someone who turns out to be my enemy. We have to make the GOP scared of us. Our work is cut out for us.

Heard on MSNBC which prefers to discuss NY23 than the two STATE GOVERNORSHIPS.

The governorships almost always had the GOP as the front runner. NY23 is different. Hoffman was always the dark horse. Which makes his defeat all the more disappointing. It's less significant, since a governorship is obviously more important than a House seat, but more disappointing, given the emotional (and financial - given the donations to his campaign from freepers) investment in his victory.
