NY-23: Watertown Mayor: ‘It’s Over’ (Scozzafava endorsement sunk Hoffman)
washingtonindependent.com ^ | Nov 3, 2009

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – I caught Watertown, N.Y., Mayor Jeff Graham, who endorsed NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman this weekend, looking very glum at Doug Hoffman’s election party. I asked him what happened in Jefferson County, where Watertown is located, and where Democrat Bill Owens is leading the vote.

“We lost,” said Graham. “The Scozzafava endorsement, the [Watertown Daily Times] endorsement of Owens–I mean, they roughed Hoffman up.”

Could Hoffman still pull out a win? Graham grimaced. “It’s over.”

As I said before, this is New York. This is a state where Congressmen like Charles Rangel could be caught robbing a bank in broad daylight and still get re-elected. NY-23 is just a reflection of the entire state.

New York deserves everything it gets.

Scozzafava plus Hoffman has more votes than Owens.

I'll believe it when I see it. Not all counties are in yet and I learned not to trust any news article from a new station that starts with the word "washington".

Oh, how a once noble and illustrious name has been tarnished, the name that stemmed from one of the 1st and greatest US generals and presidents.

Keep in mind, that’s a liberal news site. They may well be right, but I’ve been told we won’t get all returns until tomorrow because a voting machine broke down. If it goes South for Hoffman, though, look for the Dems to play this up big-time.

I’m afraid so. Better Owens though than Scuzzyacorn. Hopefully the GOP has learned its lesson.

“New York deserves everything it gets.”

No it doesn't, you ARROGANT ***.

I live in NJ near NY and I didn't deserve Corzine. Lonegan was my choice however we got Christie. Conservatives like myself do what they can do. No DECENT person deserves ANY Demoncrat or Rino in a position of power. If you had any grace or sense, you'd apologize for that insensitive statement.

You know what’s coming..”It was Sarah’s fault” or they will say this proves the GOP needs to become moderate. Hey I’m thrilled that we got 2 out of 3..what happened tonight in New Jersey was shocking. I did NOT expect Christie to win and he did..so I am satisfied

Actually, the Watertown area (60 miles North of Syracuse) is pretty Conservative by NY standards. The Mayor, Graham, is an almost conservative Dem. The whole state is pulled under by the anchor that is NYC.

Worth recalling, sadly, that these are the bumpkins who were so dazzled by Hillary Clinton's "listening tour" that they got all star struck and elected her senator.

Figures they might take a skag like Scuzzy Fava seriously.

Bummer. I thought we could win this one easily. The GOP botched this by nominating Democrat Lite in the first place. Then she proves her loyalty by being bought by the Democrats.

It seems bizarre to me that the Republicans, being the loyal opposition, would ignore all the opposition to the Obama Administration and the opposition to the Federal squandermania that’s going on in Washington.

There are voting machine problems in St. Lawrence County, among the most populous area of that district. It ain’t over yet. It’s gonna be a long night in NY-23. I hope that Hoffman doesn’t prematurely concede.

If largely republican precincts haven't reported there is a chance. But 4% down with over 70% reported, is tough to overcome.

Yes...that's the lesson here. The electorate revealed the RINO(or DIABLO, as Mark Steyn put it) for the wolf in sheep's clothing that she is and said 'no'. That alone is a message that will be remembered in 2010 by the GOP (if they have the brains God gave the least of his creatures---even the newt), which should yield a better crop of conservative candidates.

Even if Hoffman loses (it ain't over yet), this is still a Win.

I am still hoping Hoffman will pull it off, but let’s face it, if he had not gotten into the race, a Scuzzyfaze victory would not have been any better than an Owen’s victory — as she so obviously proved with her endorsement.

Hell, give me a genuine enemy over a despicably untrustworthy friend any day of the week.

Forget the spin. Regardless of how this turns out, the Conservative voice of the nation has been heard and has shaken things up massively.

I never thought we’d win NJ. Never in a million years.

I didn’t think we had a chance in VA until about a week ago.

It’s been a good night. If Hoff can’t pull it out, it’s still incredible. He knocked off a Rino before election night. It’ll leave a mark.

The idiots at the RNC spent one million dollars on behalf of Scozza who in return for her endorsement of Owens will probably get some plum appointment from the Obama Administration. One response that must be made here is that Newt Gingrich is no longer a spokesman for any segment of the Republican Party.
