BERLIN - The Mossad espionage agency used Trojan Horse programs to gather intelligence about a nuclear facility in Syria that the Israel Defense Forces destroyed in 2007, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported yesterday.
According to the magazine, Mossad agents planted the malware on the computer of a Syrian official while he was staying in London, at a hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Kensington.
The program copied details about Syria's illicit nuclear program and sent them directly to the Mossad agents' computers, the report said.
Israel's raid on the al-Kabir site in Syria's eastern desert on September 6, 2007 is said to have knocked out the country's nearly-completed reactor.
Israel has refused to comment on, confirm or deny the strike, but after a delay of several months, Washington presented intelligence purporting to show the target was a reactor being built with North Korean help.
Der Spiegel further reported on Monday that prior to the strike, IDF intelligence unit 8200 had tapped conversations between officials at the Syrian reactor and North Korean experts

And the purpose of releasing this info is WHAT?
London Hotel...reported out of Berlin?
Whoever released this report deserves a visit from the Mossad.
Yeah, I’ll bet the internet really sucks on an Atari 800!
Hummmm... Marty, do you really need to know?
Unless Mossad got the intel in an entirely different way and they just leaked this to get the Syrians running in circles. Maybe Mossad controls Symantec and are just trying to trick Syria into loading the "anti-virus" software onto every single computer... but then I might have said too much. :-)
I was intrigued by that detail about the “upscale” hotel in Kensington. I stayed at the International Hotel in “The Royal Borough of Kensington and Glouster”, a short walk from Harrods, just wondering if it was the same one. (It helps if you travel with the bean counters and let them make the arrangements. Way over the MSA. Like $300/night U.S. in 1991.)
DARN....I was hoping Mossad found THE
Birth Certificate.
Exactly what I thought! Keep them chasing their tails like my lab puppy!
Well it might be ......
right maybe the less said the better. but I get your drift.
However the Syrians are probably saying...What are they talking about..LOL
My God, I love the Israelis. They know how to fight. Bless them.
The purpose of releasing this info is to make the Syrians and all Arabs crazy and compel them to waste thousands of man-hours tearing their machinery and software apart, completely rethinking their plans, and wondering hysterically what the Israelis know and don't know. It may also serve to ruin the career of the unfortunate fellow whose computer was invaded.
Believe me, if the Mossad didn't want this information released, it wouldn't have been released. They usually play six games at once.
Mossad agents planted the malware on the computer of a Syrian official while he was staying in London, at a hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Kensington.Probably some upscale Kensington hookers involved.
True, they also released info about the Hamas weapons upgrade today. Definitely a shot across the Iranian bow.
The Mossad can be loose cannons sometimes — their government is nowhere near able to keep them under control — but on balance they’re a good thing.
Gotta love the Mossad...they are doing their part in keeping us all safe.
There’s a Mac commercial in this somewhere.
Israel has satellites watching those dirty moslems all day and night.
The idea that this nuke plant was discovered by someone installing a cookie on somebody’s laptop is hilarious.
Link to Spiegel article which is not Israel friendly.

Heh. Just goes to show, you don’t mess with the Israelis. Some folks might not like their tactics, but you gotta admit they get RESULTS!
Clever.....nothing like carrying the whole file drawer of secret stuff with you. /s
Nice story with a nice semi ending.
More to come with Iran.
“Clever.....nothing like carrying the whole file drawer of secret stuff with you. /s”
That seems to be a requisite of the Islamofascists we have killed in the past few years.
If their note book computers were not destroyed, the contents enabled us to put a lot more of their TROPOS buddies out of their misery.
I think it's worthy of a MI Ping. What say you?
The new way.
Do it./Ping it!
MI Ping
MI Ping
It is funny in a way. What is also funny is how much the Syrians and N. Korea lost in money.
“So where did Der Spiegel get the story.....MI-5?”
Probably from the Mossad Pysch Op division.
Hey! That Syrian computer security is top-notch! I hear they’re running Windows 98 and a 16-bit encryption.
It probably wasn’t Mossad that hacked the Syrians, but some Isreali school kids working on a computer class project.
