Judea and Samaria are suburbs, states Dr. Sheila Lampert. When a resident of Judea or Samaria is arrested, he is not a "settler" but an Israeli who lives in a particular suburb--one that also acts as a buffer zone for the rest of Israel
In the language of the Bible they were called settlements, and the Israelites answered the call of G-d to settle the land. In the language of today, they are the suburbs Websters dictionary defines as outlying residential communities.
And for the most part they are closer to Israeli cities and towns than New York suburbs to NY subways, or Los Angeles suburbs to downtown LA.
But Israeli suburbs have served a more critical function than Americas bedroom communities. Along with the army personnel positioned nearby for their protection, they have served as sentinels on the routes that could be used by invading Arab armies on their way to deliver death and destruction to larger Israeli population centers.
Those suburban sentinels and their protectors -- by slowing the progress of would-be invaders and giving Israels citizen army the time needed to mobilize initially served as deterrents to war. And that deterrence contributed to the stability in a volatile Middle East. Today they serve to anchor the buffer zones of Judea-Samaria.

Enough of this rhetorical crap. The “settlements” are more than just “suburbs.” They’re justice. Hebron, Kiryat Arba and the towns adjoining thereto are justice for the countless massacres committed against Jews over the past two thousand years, most recently in 1929, and the innumerable individual murders committed intermittently up until the present time. It’s justice because our forefathers, Avraham, Sarah, Yitzhak, Rivka, Yaakov and Leah are buried there, together with Adam and Eve, and while Avraham was also the ancestor of Ishmael, it is primarily our heritage and our holy city. The Arabs hate that fact, try to write it out of the history books, just as they try to pretend that Solomon’s Temple never stood on the Temple Mount, that Jews and Arabs have lived together in harmony for centuries, and that they are the indigenous occupants of Israel. It’s all pernicious, blatant lies, and it’s time we stopped playing along with their charade. Judah and Shomron are as much ours as is Jerusalem, Tzefat, Betar and Tel Aviv. They cannot drive us out. They cannot negotiate us out. We’ll have our farms, our bedroom communities, and our military bases here, and they can either get used to it or not. We aren’t leaving, and that’s justice, not “suburbs”. Put that in your hooka and inhale it, Ahmed.
