ABC News Jonathan Karl reports:
Has Joe Lieberman been bluffing? An article in this morning's The Hill newspaper says Lieberman has "reached a private understanding" with Harry Reid that he won't block a final vote on a health care bill.
If true, that would contradict Lieberman's public statements last week, including his interview with ABC News "Subway Series" where he said he would join a Republican filibuster to kill the bill if it included a public option.
Lieberman's office, however, says the Hill story is bunk, or, in spokesman Marshall Wittman's words "absolutely not true." Lieberman, Wittman says, will vote to block a final vote on any bill with a pubic option and has no "private understanding" with Reid to the contrary.
Witmann says Senator Liebermans "clear position" is that he "will oppose cloture on a final bill if it contains a public option."
"If you believe this story is true, you will also believe that I am replacing A-Rod in game six of the series," says Wittman, who doesn't look like much of a baseball player. Then again, he couldn't do any worse than A-Rod did during the last two games in the Bronx.
C’mon Joe.... say it ain’t true. Harry Reid will screw Lieberman in a heart beat.
As a constituent of LIEBerman’s I know he has a history of playing both ends against the middle.
Firm lead in there.
Firm lead in there.
If true, why do they have to wait until after the first of the year now? Lieberman couldn’t have been lying after the defense he gave of the position, that it’s a huge new entitlement while we’re in economic crisis. He put it better than most Republicans.
Until Joe Lieberman says he won’t block the bill as it is I will write this off as BS.
Joe always supports his constituency. The problem is who Joe considers to be his constituency. As far as I can tell, it's is comprised of just Joe himself.
Well, on the one hand, Lieberman has a long history of backing down.
On the other hand, the folks at The Hill have a long history of shilling for the left.
So, it all boils down to, Who is the bigger liar? Let’s hope it’s The Hill.
Senator Lieberman denies this one —> http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/03/lieberman-denies-report-secret-deal-reid-health-care/
It is not true and Karl is a jerk for not reporting that his office vehemently denied that there was a deal. It was a trial balloon by Reid and it backfired on Reid’s office.
Fox News has the full report and Lieberman is not backing down to Reid.
Always the Hamlet of the Potomac.
Put it in writing and present it before the American people, Lieberman....nothing but a matter of a few minutes and some FOXNews exposure.
You mean, the Liberal media is PROJECTING THEIR COMMUNIST GOALS...???
Say it ain’t so...
Can we forget that LIEberman was willing to disenfranchise the military vote in Florida in 2000.
Anybody notice that Lieberman did not re-confirm his position personally?. Instead a staffer spoke for him. That doesn’t mean squat.
Lieberman waas a very BIG talker in the Clinton Impeachment AGAINST Clinton, then he CAVED like a Cheap Suitcase!!! He’s a BIG BLOWHARD!!!
