CALIFORNIA: Spokesman for Attorney General Brown resigns
Sacramento Bee ^ | 11/3/9 | Jack Chang

Attorney General Jerry Brown's communications director, Scott Gerber, submitted his resignation Monday after admitting last week that he had secretly taped conversations with reporters.

In the letter to Chief Deputy Attorney General James Humes, Gerber said he was resigning "with a heavy heart" but emphasized that "neither the Attorney General nor any other attorneys from our office were aware that I was recording interviews without permission."

The questionable, perhaps illegal, behavior came to light after Gerber told the San Francisco Chronicle that one of its reporters had misquoted Humes based on Gerber's recording of the conversation between Humes and political writer Carla Marinucci.

Gerber had been placed on administrative leave after the Chronicle wrote about the incident Friday.

Recording private conversations without consent is illegal under California law.

The episode quickly emerged as an embarrassment for Brown, who is the sole Democratic hopeful in next year's governor's race.

How could it be against the law to tape an interview with a reporter? Isn’t the reporter taping the interview already?

Even if Brown decided not run, it still wouldn’t mean that California would elect a decent governor. Either an inexperienced RAT or a RINO would be the choices.

resigning from your job does in no way alleviate you from your CRIMINAL ACTIONS, but then again Why isn’t Rocky DelGadillo in JAIL for INSURANCE FRAUD, thats right he paid the money back after getting caught. The Double Standards with regards to Criminal Prosecution has to stop.

We wouldn't want people held accountable for what they say.

Attorney General Jerry Brown's communications director, Scott Gerber

Let's face it, any communications between a guy who works for Jerry Brown and reporters are probably going to embarrass both parties, and that's why he resigned - someone got hold of them and threatened to release them. To wit:

"OK, Scott - how can we make the Republicans look even more like scum bags?"

"Well, I've got a couple of more ideas. Let's go through them in detail. For instance, you haven't accused them of drowning puppies in a while, or murdering senile grandmothers with axe handles".
