Controversial Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio and former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias are involved in a controversy related to an FBI investigation, Talking Points Memo highlights. Arpaio, known as Americas toughest sheriff is currently under investigation by the FBI for targeting his political foes in apparent retaliation, according to KHPO, a Phoenix area TV station.
Iglesias told KPHO, that he would seek an indictment against Arpaio if he were the U.S. Attorney in Arpaios area. Then things get even stranger, with Arpaios office releasing a statement attacking Iglesias reputation.
The statement reads in part:
***
Rather than dignify the reporter and his piece with a lengthy response to assertions made, we will simply respond with a few facts of our own.
Their expert interview who insisted that an indictment be sought against Sheriff Arpaio also said that no where in America should Arpaios tactics ever be tolerated. His name is David Iglesias. This is the same attorney who was fired in 2006 by the US Attorney General for several different reasons.
Iglesias was criticized for looking the other way in an investigation involving ACORN, an organization that embraces illegal immigration and is currently under intense scrutiny and investigation by the US government for fraudulent schemes.
***
Iglesias said after testimony by former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and former White House counsel Harriet Miers that he felt 100 percent vindicated as his firing and that his firing was for improper reasons.
Arpaio is controversial for his tactics on arresting illegal immigrants, drawing numerous complaints from civil rights organizations of racial profiling. Early last month, Arpaio lost some of his ability to make immigration arrests.
This latest controversy, however, is about an abuse of powers in relation to Arpaios office investigating political opponents of Arpaio just because they are political opponents. Included are Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, former Mesa police chief George Gascon and others.
None of the investigations resulted in convictions; however, they cost the targets hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and tarnished reputations, the KPHO report says.
Perhaps Iglesias should count himself lucky that he doesnt reside in Maricopa County.

But the reported FBI probe could turn into a far bigger headache. KPHO reports that it has examined more than two dozen complaints against the sheriff from business owners, government workers, mayors and law-enforcement officials, who allege that after they spoke out against Arpaio, they found themselves the subject of investigations by his office -- none of which have resulted in convictions, and many of which never even led to charges being filed.

Easy to see the heavy handed O crew and their partisan minions will continue persecuting Sheriff Joe, a government official who upholds the law. Can't have that .......
Iglesias was fired for incompetence (not that the President needs a reason to discharge a U.S. Attorney, they serve at HIS convenience). He was chin-deep in one of the most politically corrupt rodent states in America and couldn’t see it (or to the point, refused to expedite matters in corruption investigations and indictments). Then-Sen. Pete Domenici and Congresswoman Heather Wilson both wanted, demanded, to know WHY he wasn’t doing his job. The media smeared them both as having been part of some evil “criminal” conspiracy against Iglesias. Since when is wanting to know why someone isn’t doing the job for which they were appointed to do “criminal” ? Iglesias is a despicable RINO vermin of the Scozzafava vintage.
Go Joe!!!
I used to live in Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) and everyone I knew LOVED Sheriff Joe. He did (and still does) an exemplary job jailing crooks and criminals. His jail is open 24/7/365. Law abiding citizens applaud his efforts. Weazels, not so much.
Father in heaven protect your servant Joe. Oversee the law of the land. I ask in the name of our lord Jesus.
Remember when Arpaio had this opponent arrested in this halloween outfit for impersonating a highway patrol officer? "The actor who portrays Joe Arizona in a gaming proposition ad campaign was busted Thursday for impersonating a law enforcement officer. He was wearing a uniform that included pink boxer shorts. Actor Nick Tarr and his employer insist the citation from the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office was political retribution for the campaigns criticism of Sheriff Joe Arpaio." Sheriff Joe is nothing but a petty, vengeful, power hungry glory hound who's fooled the gullible into thinking that he's tough on crime by creating work crews and making prisoners wear pink underwear.
Yep, with Ms. “AquaVelva” at the helm. (janet)
This is one poorly written article. It is so jumbled that I’m taking dramine in order to read it without getting motion sickness.
Iglesias sounds like a jerk and if he fudged investigating ACORN, then he needs to be reinvestigated by the Roto-Rotor Man (aka Sheriff Joe).
What bad can be said of a sheriff that makes the prisoners wear pink undies? If nothing else, that’s creative!
Good
I still like Sheriff Joe`Arpaio same as I like any crackdown on illegal immigration
The “political opponent” of Sheriff Joe used campaign funds to pay personal debts, business debts, and pad personal accounts not politically related. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors led by Mary Rose Wilcox (google her corruption tied to her restaurants & illegal aliens) have been trying to take out Joe Arpaio & Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas ever since the citizens of Arizona overwhelmingly passed anti illegal alien laws.
Hey New Mexico, keep in mind, you are surrounded by Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Utah and we have more guns than you. If there ever secession, you can escape to Colorado but like I said you are surrounded. We will simply have to occupy you and Colorado and pacify the area in the New United States.
Keep your sorry ass excuse for a state out of our business.
Best Regards,
TheArizona
Friend,,, He is the former US attorney and everyone here in the New Mexican territory is glad he is gone. The lefties are glad because he was a Bush appointee; and the conservatives are because he was bad at his job. Freepers over here love sheriff Joe. Your general attack on NM is undignified. NM has its problems. And AZ has plenty to be humble about. Relax.

NM Ping
If you want on or off the NM Ping list, please FReepmail me.
Access to the ping list is available to anyone by going to my FR home page.
Wilson was a popular, compent threat to the corrupt reigning good-old-boy bunch that has kept NM a banana republic and an embarrassing sight in the eyes of the world for decades, with the pompous, ridiculous Richardson acting as point man.
The poor bastards, they have us surrounded.
Well, someone has to protect you from California...
Exactly. That whole "US Attorneys Scandal" crap made me sick. Finally getting rid of some of those hacks was one of the best things Bush did in term 2.
