In Iowa, Euphoria Gives Way to Second Thoughts on Obama (Obama Republicans Quoted)
New York Times ^ | November 3, 2009 | JEFF ZELENY

Pauline McAreavy voted for President Obama. From the moment she first saw him two years ago, she was smitten by his speeches and sold on his promise of change. She switched parties to support him in the Iowa caucuses, donated money and opened her home to a pair of young campaign workers.

But by the time she received a fund-raising letter last month from the Democratic National Committee, a sense of disappointment had set in. She returned the solicitation with a handwritten note, saying: “Until I see some progress and he lives up to his promises in Iowa, we will not give one penny.”

“I’m afraid I wasn’t realistic,” Ms. McAreavy, 76, a retired school nurse, said on a recent morning on the deck of her home here in east-central Iowa.

“I really thought there would be immediate change,” she said. “Sometimes the Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. But it’s politics as usual, and that’s what I voted against.”

D'oh! What did she expect? "The Messiah" said he'd bring change? I can get a mynah bird and have him say the same thing.

Maybe she would've voted for him, too.

Reading the thoughts and musings of these foolish people just verifies for me a reading from the Bible I received while praying on election night when Obozo was put into office. They turned away from God and were deceived and now He is punishing them for their error:

Jeremiah 17:5-13

5Thus says the Lord:
Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals
and make mere flesh their strength,
whose hearts turn away from the Lord.
6They shall be like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see when relief comes.
They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.

7Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.

9The heart is devious above all else;
it is perverse—
who can understand it?
10I the Lord test the mind
and search the heart,
to give to all according to their ways,
according to the fruit of their doings.

11Like the partridge hatching what it did not lay,
so are all who amass wealth unjustly;
in mid-life it will leave them,
and at their end they will prove to be fools.

12O glorious throne, exalted from the beginning,
shrine of our sanctuary!
13O hope of Israel! O Lord!
All who forsake you shall be put to shame;
those who turn away from you* shall be recorded in the underworld,*
for they have forsaken the fountain of living water, the Lord.

I think a lot of folks are feeling that way. It’s understandable. Things were pretty bad last year. The economy stunk, the Iraq War was going nowhere, Bush’s approval was in the 20s, people had had it with the GOP in Congress and in power. They wanted something new. And Obama was smooth and had all the pizzazz aand media backing and all the money. He seduced a lot of people. He told them what they wanted to hear. Like a guy who’s been at the bar all night getting rejected and all of a sudden this young thing starts whispering in his ear.

I don’t necessarily blame them.

But now people are waking up.

It starts tomorrow.

Incidentally, "the Messiah" is bringing change. He is destroying the country with his Communist policies.

On that score no one should be disappointed.

“A campaign for the history books, filled with a sky-high sense of possibility for Mr. Obama not just among legions of loyal Democrats but also among converts from outside the party, has descended to an unfamiliar plateau for a president whose political rise was as rapid as it was charmed.”
I like that line. If we consider his ‘rise’ took about 2 years and we consider where hes at now,hes probably sinking faster than he went up.

Notice how none of these people the NYT talked to for the story said they were getting skeptical because 0 was too extreme. In fact it seems to be the opposite. They seem to want 0 to take charge, transcend the give-and-take of politics, and ram through stuff that they perceive will help them and their families and friends personally.

They're starting to do the right thing for the wrong reasons. If I'm right, no message the Repubs come up with, particularly a conservative one, is likely to resonate with them.

It seems that speeches are the only thing the democrats can deliver. Notice that all the MSM can say about JFK was "Ask not yadda, yadda, yadda." The coverage of Ted's funeral noted his one or two speeches at the conventions. Dems must really be swept of their feet by smoooth talkers...

I've voted in every election except one off-year primary since 1972. In every contest that wasn't for some non-partisan office like prothonotary I've heard that this cycle's Pol-du-jour:
  1. Will clean up the mess
  2. Fight for me
  3. Really, really, really be different
  4. Shake things up in Washington (or Harrisburg, or the School Board)
  5. Bring the change we need.

I can (barely) excuse the 18 year-olds who heard this nonsense for the first time and don't know enough about life to realize they're being conned by the oldest grift in the book.

This woman could have been voting on the day I was born, but she acts like she was born yesterday and is still wet behind the ears. The best thing that can possibly happen is that this idiot will get disillusioned and stop voting altogether.

By the time of election last year, the GOP in Congress had been out power for two whole years. The Dims were in control.

If by going "nowhere" you mean that the war was essentially over, with most of Al-Qeada in Iraq destroyed and control of the country being returned to the American-trained Iraqi police forces and army, then I suppose you are correct. Otherwise, you are dead wrong.

She switched Partys to support him? I doubt it. Just another Granny who is about to become acquainted with a lot less Medicare for the stupidity of her vote. Even if Obamacare fails, and God willing it WILL fail, there will be Medicare cuts until Zero leaves Pennsylvania Ave. Remember, Pelosi said that Americans over 55 use entirely too much of our health care resources.

I’m a college prof in Iowa. I was afraid it would be ‘all Obama all the time’ after the election. Well, here we are months later and I don’t hear a word from my co-workers or my students. No one wears their Obama buttons, nobody wants to write a paper on what Obama has done for them or the new ‘Great Society’ he’s going to make, not.a.word.

Although we are better off than some states, I think most of my students are too worried that they won’t find jobs or that their parents are gonna be laid off or that the program will go down hill due to the massive budget cuts we’ve had to accept.

I have not been able to convince any of my Zero supporting friends that the Dems had control starting in 2006. The Dems willing accomplices in Big Media helped them cover up the fact that the economy started tanking AFTER the DEMS were in charge. But, of course, it was all blamed on GWB as he was still the President.

And they weren't as bad then as the MSM was reporting, day in and day out. If the MSM had reported the truth it would have been much harder for Obama to get a foothold. Until people learn not to trust anything they read or hear or see from the MSM and to check things out for themselves we will see no change.

I also have noticed that the many of our liberal friends are keeping quiet. Others are saying the usual mantra of “he is trying, the damage done by Bush has been too great”.
Looking at the bigger picture, maybe we needed to suffer an Obama to wake us up and believe that we can make changes in Washington.

"Suddenly another voice spoke, low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment. Those who listened unwarily to that voice could seldom report the words that they heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves. When others spoke they seemed harsh and uncouth by contrast; and if they gainsaid the voice, anger was kindled in the hearts of those under the spell."

I have an aunt—while not a full-fledged libtard—she’s the type I would have bet money over that she swooned over BO last year.

Hadn’t seen her in a couple years. Over dinner the other night, she’s going on and on about the government sticking it’s nose in everything, taking over GM, and especially health care. Without a word from me (and God knows I was dying to say my piece!) She then said about Obama:

“I don’t like him—he’s not doing a good job at all”

As I said she isn’t a whacko libtard—but a die-hard Kumbaya Dem-if he’s lost her already, he better put ACORN on overtime (which is what will probably happen—now he’s in and doesn’t give a damn what we think—he probably wouldn’t win fair in 2012, so it will be “By any Means Necessary” as ol’ Malcolm the Tenth (get it? I didn't vote in that election. Couldn't support a man so stupid as to be taken by Mitchel and so uncaring (not quite the word) as to incite rebellion against Saddam and, when they answered the call, let the Shiite's in southern Iraq be slaughtered. It was a lot more than the media beating Bush in 92. He had quite a bit to do with it.
