With his second term set to expire at the end of next year, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is widely considered a likely contender for the 2012 Republican nomination. Pawlenty took a step toward raising his national profile recently when he formed a political action committee, called Freedom First. Last Friday, TAS's Philip Klein spoke to Gov. Pawlenty over the phone to get his reaction to the Democrats' current health care push. The following is a transcript of the exchange.

IF...if the U.S. Senate INSISTS on shoving down our throats a Health Program, how could a VOUCHER system work, and an end to all of the endless, lawsuits for malpractice? My grandson went to Emergency Room for an ear infection, 7 hours later he saw a doctor. Most doctors can’t just give a look see, but have to give a MYRIAD, PLETHORA overdose of studies to guarantee they won’t get sued. If everyone who showed up had to pay $25...I think 80% of the crowded rooms would end up just putting up with their pains, that many times later subsides.
