More than 1.4 million Californians were working part-time in September, not out of choice but because their hours had been cut or it was the only job they could find and they needed the money, reports the state Employment Development Department.
That's a nearly 72% increase from a year ago when 840,000 Californians settled for part-time work.
The biggest jump has been in workers who have settled for part-time jobs because they can't find full-time work. Their numbers have soared 83.3% since September 2008.

Drive out the ILLEGALS and you may have a chance to work FULLTIME!
Being the spelling police here: That’s “Make Do” not “Make Due.” Of course, what I need are the typing police.
Anyway, I just heard this morning that the unemployment figures nationwide are expected to top 10%. That has already occurred in some states. My question still is: Where are all those jobs Obama and all the other politicos say have been created or have been spared?
Unemployment figures are the easiest to manipulate and for the most part, are just plain bogus. They don’t take into account part-time workers, people who have to work for money “under the table” because they can’t afford the taxes, temporary workers and people who have fallen off the map because their unemployment benefits have run out and they still don’t have a job.
It’s long past time we get rid of the slackers and dishonest people in Washington, in our own states and locally and put an end to this deception.
If the unemployment rate hits 10% in this country according to the U3 numbers, that is really huge. This number considers those exhausting benefits as not unemployed anymore. It would mean that there are enough people getting pink slips going into the holiday season that they are inching up the unemployment numbers while about 7000 people per day drop off the roles.
I don’t know what the U6 numbers are saying, but they must be a mess at this point.......
Even part time jobs are getting hard to find. I read recently that Manpower took a loss.
