New Jersey Gov Race Tips To Christie By 2 Points, Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac University ^ | 11/2/2009

Posted on 11/02/2009 5:19:11 AM PST by markomalley

In the see-saw New Jersey Governor's race, Republican challenger Christopher Christie has 42 percent to Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine's 40 points, with 12 percent for independent candidate Christopher Daggett, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Six percent remain undecided.

This compares to a 43 - 38 percent Gov. Corzine lead, with 13 percent for Daggett, in an October 28 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

Among Daggett supporters, 38 percent say they might change their mind: 39 percent say Corzine is their second choice, while 29 percent say Christie is number two.

Only 10 percent of Christie voters and 13 percent of Corzine backers say they might change their mind.

Corzine leads 77 - 6 percent among Democratic likely voters, with 12 percent for Daggett. Christie leads 78 - 10 percent among Republicans, with 9 percent for Daggett, and 47 - 32 percent among independent voters, with 17 percent for Daggett.

"Daggett is the key to an incredibly close New Jersey election," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

From October 27 - November 1, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,533 New Jersey likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.

That’s a seven point swing to Christie in this poll over the past 3 days—encouraging.

Christie’s lead among independents is huge. Or at least it was in some other poll I saw from the weekend. Something like 55-29. This ought to mean victory but who knows. We can only hope Repub. turnout is high while Dems, without their great leader on the ballot, will not be moved to vote. Many analysts who don’t like conservatives always say the GOP should nominate moderates who appeal to the independent swing voters. Looks like that is just what they did this year in NJ but it still is not enough to guarantee victory.

I don't think Daggett is going to get anything near 12% of the vote, since he's buried in the pile of third party candidates on the right side of the ballot.

PPP, the Democrat tracking poll, has Christie by 6, which may be enough to overcome Jersey's margin of fraud. Not that Christie is is a particularly good candidate but "ABC" (Anyone But Corzine) will definitely pull more votes than Corzine, and Christie may well manage to pull this off.

I agree. In NJ, Christie needs to win by at least 8 points to make sure he actually *wins.* It’s going to be all about turnout.

But I think the democrats are going to keep this one.:/

Looks to me more as if Quinnipiac is doing a bit of last-minute window dressing, hoping to get the final call on the winning side. They had been something of an outlier, showing a Corzine lead recently. But only the final call is remembered when polling groups are analyzed for their accuracy.

I would really like to believe that NJ voters are holding their cards close to their chest on this one because they are afraid of the election being stolen. I would dearly love to see a Christie explosion at the polls on Tuesday so overwhelming they are shellshocked when they realize they didn’t waken enough dead voters.

obama and corzine were at a rally in NJ yesterday. They were BOTH angry and nasty. Talking about mopping up the mess. Couldn’t watch more than a minute. Obama had his best black voice on and both of them were still bashing Bush. Corzine is such a dirt bag and zero is a first class cowardly punk.

The “I Don't Take No Responsibility For Nuthin’” Narcissist in Chief, is going to find out soon enough that the old “it's Bush's fault” whine, has long ago stopped being effective. Voters know BS when they see one. All the polls since 0bozo’s spate of campaign stops with Corzine, have Christie ‘s numbers going UP. 0bozo could soon become electoral poison for the Democrats, if it turns out they can't even hold a true blue state like New Jersey.

What has been the reporting on early voting in NJ? I’ll never forget Obama and his bunch haranguing their supporters to get to the polls early and bring everyone they knew. I firmly believe that lots of fraud occurred during early voting in 2008 and that’s how Obama won states like NC. Are the same shenanigans going on now in NJ?

I would love to be wrong, but I think this is all to just project the illusion that NJ serfs have a democratic process, but in reality this race is already over. NJ is bought and paid for; this is only about a renegotiation of the ultimate price and how openly the Democrats need to commit fraud.
