Bye, bye RINO
The American Thinker ^ | November 02, 2009 | Pamela Geller

Posted on 11/02/2009 3:33:01 AM PST by Scanian

New York's 23rd Congressional District has become the site of a showdown between RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) and conservatives. The conservatives are winning -- but the RINOs are not being gracious in defeat. Now the RINOs are showing how much party unity means to them. They have no loyalty to conservatives; why should conservatives have any loyalty to them?

The latest showdown came when ultra-liberal State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava became the Republican candidate in that district. The ACORN racketeering arm, the Working Families Party, backed her. Yet the Republican old guard backed this useful idiot. Newt Gingrich backed this tool. The name "Republican" was all that mattered to them. Not principle.

When all the facts come out, I’ll bet we’ll learn that Scuzzofava was a Democrat plant from day one.

I’m thinking that Daggett is too. I’m thinking that’s where some of Corzine’s money is going. Maybe money from somewhere else, too.

I wonder if anyone else in NJ is realizing this.

I wonder how many “third party candidates” there will be in 2010. And where their campaign funding will come from.

Put two and two together.

Unfortunately, elected RINOs are here to stay unless they lose a primary election or retire.

NY23 has been a treat, though. I can see why the Republican Committee may have supported her if she stepped forward when no one else did. If they recruited her or there were other choices at the time, then the committee needs to be replaced, or at least those who voted for her. They need to be replaced ASAP.

I wonder how Newt feels knowing he backed a candidate who, in DC, would have caucused with the Democrats. Do such things matter to him these days?

"Bye-bye, RINOs"

Count the votes first, gloat second.

You may miss those RINOs after all.

Her replacement will be a communist.

Snowe is going to vote against nationalization of health care. Her replacement will work actively for it.

I have a question for you, Mr. Noble.

Do you have any guiding principles? Or is any law that is passed OK with you, as long as it’s (R)’s that pass it?

Kansas senatorial candidate Todd Tiahrt explained the choice: "The Republican Party is either going to return to the party of fiscal responsibility and consistent conservative principles as it was under Ronald Reagan or it will continue down the path of ‘sporadic moderation.'"
If I had my way no "conservative" (scare quotes because you and I and Jim Robinson, and the Constitution, favor liberty and progress, not the status quo) would never attribute virtues such as moderation, liberalism, and progress to people who in fact oppose all such.

The Republican Party is finished as a national organization, and I've never been one.

So, I have no interest in what (R)'s pass - except that most things they passed from 2001-2007 were disastrously bad ideas.

I agree with part of Mr. Noble’s statement

Count the votes first
Gloat second.

The part I dont agree with is ever missing the RINO’s.
I wont miss someone stabbing me in the back, at least with Democrats I get to see it coming.

The Republicans had 8 other candidates to choose from, including Hoffman. He only got slated with the Conservative party after the committee chose Scozzafava.

I still think that calling her a RINO is an insult to RINOs...who very often DO support Republican principals (such as voting for Bush judges, and Specter single-handedly getting Thomas on the Court) - and often supporting filibusters on key issues (as Snowe and all of the other RINOs seem ready to do on health care).

This lady, on the other hand, was none of the above...she was simply a liberal DEMOCRAT that somehow got on our ticket (and that REALLY needs to be investigated).

A better term is simply Trojan.

There are cynical people who enter politics simply for personal gain and pick the party in which advancement looks more likely, ideology be damned. Dede, with her union connections, may be a case in point.

Do you think Dede Scozzafava would have been better for NY-23, or worse?

Better or worse than whom? Better or worse than what?

The choice of Scozzafava by the local committee revealed a lot of things.

How good Hoffman is as a replacement candidate depends entirely on whether or not he wins.

I regard choosing candidates for elected office as an empirical matter. I use the Deng Xiaoping principle: "Black cat, white cat - no matter. Does it catch mice?" as the rule for candidate choice.

Now, down to brass tacks: If I could vote in NY 23, I'd vote as follows: Owens-Scozzafava (Owens); Owens-Hoffman (Hoffman); Scozzafava-Hoffman (Hoffman); 3-way Hoffman as long as he could win (which appears to be the case).

Hopefully this ignominius retreat by Newt will be the nail in the coffin for his aspirations to the presidency. Along with his support for “climate change” legislation this makes Newt virtually unelectable. Gingrich is a smart guy, but nobody wants him for prez.

Right ON!!!

Time to get out the old broom and do a clean sweep

This could be the spark we need to start a long overdue revolt and take back our country and party

I can not for the life of me believe that anyone would contribute to the RNC any longer other than corp. fat cats

It this pans out the way we hope and Doug wins, it will show that we can target a handful of true conservatives in 2010 and lend our support directly to those individuals regardless of where they are or where we live.

Small wonder that Dear Leader and his corrupt minions want to take control of the Internet and shut down talk radio.

They are scarred witless and the handwriting is on the wall: Their days are numbered and they will do anything to retain their power--and that includes the Establishment Blue Blood RINO's who care no a whit about our country but in maintaining their power and control even if that means conspiring with the enemy--Demo-Rats.

Break out the popcorn, cuz its about to get fun out there.

*** When all the facts come out, I’ll bet we’ll learn that Scuzzofava was a Democrat plant from day one. ***

She wasn't a plant, didn't have to be. She was open about her Democrat 'leanings'.

In one of the early articles on her (there was a thread about it), it quoted her as saying that she originally considered running as a Democrat. This was no secret to the NY GOP yet they still picked her.

So a pox on her, the NY GOP, the Beltway has beens like Newt, and all RINOs.

The final paragraph says it all (and glad she also outed David Keene):

The new Republican partiers - Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Allen West - these people are our future. The RINOs belong to the past. It is over for them. It's over for the Newts, for Romneys, the Steeles, the David Keenes, the Norquists, the Lindsey Grahams. Scozzafava's failure was just the beginning. You ain't seen nuthin yet. It is time to kick the RINOs to da curb.

Good post.

I believe Dede ran as a Republican for NO reason other than she felt it was the only way to win an election in her neck of the woods.

She is a Pelosi RAT, pure and simple.

I’m not Mojave, but who are you going to run against her, and how are you going to beat her in the primary?
Then, do you really think a Conservative can win a Senate seat in Maine? Most likely, all you do is create another Democrat Senate seat.
If you are going to replace RINOs with conservatives, it needs to be in safe, reliably Republican districts and states. The NY23 district seems to be an example of a good place to replace a RINO with a Conservative.
But, what the GOP really needs to do, is concentrate on nominally “red” districts and states that have Democrats representing them.
