McDonnell Leads Deeds by 12 Points in Virginia
Politics Daily ^ | 11/1/09 | Bruce Drake

Republican Bob McDonnell leads Democrat Creigh Deeds 53 percent to 41 percent with 6 percent undecided, according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch/Mason-Dixon poll conducted Oct. 28-29. McDonnell would be the first GOP governor in Virginia since 1997 if he wins.

Although Democrats in recent years have made big inroads into this traditionally Republican state, the poll indicates that this year Republicans are poised for victories not only for governor, but for the two other statewide posts up for grabs, lieutenant governor and attorney general.

The poll suggests that President Obama's visit to the state a week ago to campaign for Deeds did little to move the needle. Deeds' support among blacks remains high at 82 percent but is little changed since early October.

Obama won the state by 53 percent to 46 percent in 2008, helped by a high turnout of black and young voters, but that dynamic does not appear to be in play this year and, in some polls, Obama's job approval and favorability ratings are down from his 2008 victory margin

So McDonnell receives 15-20% of the black vote. Pretty darn good, compared to the normal 5-10% Republicans usually get.
If Republicans can start to pull 15% of the black vote, a major chink in the Demorats armor has occurred.

That old black magic had them in its spell
That old black magic that they wove so well
Now they’ve got icy fingers up and down their spine
The same old witchcraft running out of time

The same old tingle that they felt inside
‘til that elevator started its ride
Then down and down they go, ‘round and round they go
In a spin, hating the shaft they’re in

Well, they should hide away but what can they do
They ran their game, but now they’re through
Because that old black magic, it don’t work no more
That old black magic that they sold out for
Has them in a spin, hating the spin they’re in
Now they twist and turn
Watch their numbers burn

Jumped the shark
Yeah, it’s getting dark

Fading out
Until they’re gone

Where have all those Obamenthusiasts who were so visible in 2008 been hiding this year?

I hope Deeds cleans up all of those signs. They popped up like dandelions on Friday and over the weekend.

The road crews will get rid of most of them as they are not in legal areas to post.

. . . in some polls, Obama's job approval and favorability ratings are down from his 2008 victory margin

Really? And what do the other polls show?
