Is the Republican Label Irrelevant? [Bay Buchanan hits the nail on the head]
Townhall ^ | November 2, 2009 | Bay Buchanan

Posted on 11/01/2009 10:12:37 PM PST by UAConservative

In January the Republican Party was in shambles—it had been disgraced, dismissed and discarded by Americans. While party officials and operatives were licking their wounds after eight hard years of destroying the party label, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck went on the offense, cracked the national media’s protective shield of the President and exposed Obama as a committed Leftist with a radical agenda designed to bankrupt the nation. Their clarion call energized and excited the movement, and led to citizen revolts at town hall meetings and tea party rallies that have, at least temporarily, derailed Obama’s efforts to nationalize health care.

These talk show hosts, their conservative colleagues in the media, the Tea Party activists and the Town Hall protesters voluntarily headed to the front lines in the battle to take back our country. And the hierarchy of the twenty percent party is embarrassed by their “flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone”? So accustomed to the mushy, empty, carefully scripted, feel-good messages of party moderates it is little wonder the bold, clear, honest, deeply felt statements of the conservatives sent Republican operatives into feverish chills.

Buchanan realizes the significance of the recent Gallup and Pew polls.

Being a "conservative" is more in line with America than being a "Republican".

You are not alone... Both me and my brother and sister finally gave up the Republican label and registered as Independents. That is 3 of 4 just in my family...imagine what is going on in the rest of America...

The Republican GOP had better wise up or become extinct - not exactly a problem for me these days!

That is fine if you are in a state with open primaries. In states with closed primaries, if you leave the party, you have no vote in determining who gets on the ballot for the general election. Then that really is a choice between fiddle-dee and fiddle-dum.

The party hacks would love for every conservative to quit the party and ignore the primaries.

I just Can’t wait to see the SMACKDOWN the GOP gets if they try to take credit for a possible Hoffman WIN.

What you say is true

and even today there is not a single person in the R party willing to speak Truth to Power.

Ha ha . The Dems are now the Man, the Power.

Look at Newt for example, what the hell happened to that guy?

Where is our aggressive take it to them campaign??????????

It’s Glenn Beck and a little help from Rush!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, that’ll get us elected.

With the MSM 100% backing the Kenyan Usurper .... look what they did to Sarah Palin.

Know what her crime was?

She was a natural, normal, honest, hard working American who actually had run her own business -—— and was not a Lawyer !!!!! (Unlike Hillary, Bill, Michelle, Big O, and all the others)

So, the media hated her from the first moments of her nomination, and tore her apart, and now half of America is set in their (moron) opinions about her .....

SO THE GOP are on their own... if they don’t run a Conservative, they don’t get my VOTE...

Since you used the PRIMARY TALKING POINT, Next your gonna say.. VOTE THE GOP to protect us from the LIBS... I DID THAT LAST TIME ... LOOK WHAT IT GOT US.

Don’t despair though, if nobody else emerges to challenge the current crop of stupid politicians, we can always count on Sarah Palin - now doesn’t that just chaf your chaps?

Your mileage may vary from state to state, and even between areas within states. Whatever works in your state and district to get conservatives elected is the right way to go for your area. I would support any and all efforts to eliminate both the RINO elements and the communist Democrat elements from every corner of government, academia, and business. But then people already call me extreme.

In my state and district, the primary election is most important. Whoever wins the primary as an (R) generally wins the general election, as the district is very conservative and Republican. There it is important for the most conservative to get on the ballot as an (R). For many years the homeschool families were the vetting machinery for all candidates. Don't know how that will work now since our legislative liason moved out of state, and the organization is thinning out.

I don’t think that she supported him because of his religion (don’t get carried away there). She did support him though and he is a RINO so I am suspicious of her. She seems to be one of the Washington types who still think that if the party supports an individual, I’ll support him. She is wrong there and hopefully will change her ways.

By the way... Does LMAO seem like a Democrat plant to the rest of you. He does seem to have a strange attitude. One of those newbie’s that question conservative ideals. Maybe I’m getting a bit paranoid but maybe the rest of you can watch him...

That’s why third party ballot access is the new hidden struggle we have to win. BTW, for those worried it will just cut into conservative votes, think again. There are lots of third party groups out there, many quite liberal. Open up ballot access, and the most ideologically cohesive voting block wins. Right now, that’s us.

If this person just signed up today, give him/her a chance for goodness sake...The moderator just a couple of days ago had a long thread on how some freepers treat a new sign up...some are too quick to judge and troll will out themselves after a while...

His and J.Robinson's opinion is we should treat the new ones with a certain courtesy and it was floated the idea of even trying to get up a "welcome wagon" for new freepers...

They don't all deserve to be insulted because they are new. A little courtesy goes a long way, especially if someone is not thick skinned. Free Republic can get a bad rep. because of a few rude freepers....

I am not throwing stones at anyone, just giving voice to what that thread by the moderator was about for those that missed it..

LMAO Welcome and hope you stick around and enjoy the debates and discussions...

Lawyers aren't all bad. It's the legal education system. Most young lawyers are explicitly trained to make a mental wall between morality and winning the law game. They're afraid of losing their law license if they don't pull every trick in the book to get a win, moral rectitude notwithstanding. By way of contrast, I went to a law school that teaches not only that there is a connection between law and morality, but that it is essential to grasp that connection if you want to promote good law as opposed to bad law. Elect some of those folks to office and you'll have people who get what it means to remain faithful to the Constitution.

Satanism is a religion. Would it matter if a candidate ran under that religion? My point is, I think you get real differences in polity where you lack a common denominator with the constitutional premise, which was natural law.

One, LMAO is the name of a blog. Two, his responses seem to entice responses against conservative thought.

Third...well, you are just too welcoming and will be disappointed in the long run - but at least I was like you in the past - before I became hardened by reality. Your ideals are good, but your experience is short of reality.

No, I have a problem with open primaries for precisely the reasons you present. I’m talking about a more generalized problem. In some states the two-party establishment makes the rules about letting third parties n the ballot. We are at their mercy. hey come up with these unimaginably difficult signature requirement and then don’t give you the same time to get them everyone else has. Constitution party Illinois doesn’t even have primaries yet. That would be a problem we’d love to have. The duopoly sits heavy on the opposition here in Illinois.

Yes Granny, you do take things a bit too far...heh.

Quoting Robinson is not an excuse however - it was a generic statement and valid, but you do still have to make decisions on your own. If you are a Granny, then I am probably as old or older than you and have learned by experience regarding the “newcomers”. Mr Robinson also has that experience and knows when those scammers try to use this site for their own purposes. Don’t take this wrong - but quoting Robinson is NOT an out for NOT thinking on your own.

I know that you are also fairly new to all of this so take it from someone who has been here a while - the impostors will continue to attempt to betray your beliefs for their benefit (They will quote you at there liberal sites). So, beware...

I do not take your admonishment personally - seems to be normal these days (lots of new people joining, thankfully). I just wish that you would gain a bit more knowledge about the circumstances before diving in with your criticisms...

So have a good one... and be alert and beware...

Maybe. I certainly get flamed enough here for my libertarian tendencies.

I'm just thinking about what Rush said in his Fox interview this weekend. I want the nation to succeed and things are not working out very well right now.

The fact that I'm employed and being forced to migrate to India to follow my job by one of the most successful (tech/manufacturing) companies in the US should sound a huge warning siren.

When it comes down to it, I have extreme doubts that we can wait until 2012 to right the course of the nation. I have doubts that we can wait until 2010. None of the stuff that gets passed now is ever going to be repealed (any time soon, if ever). History tells us that much.
