Newsweek Editor Calls Al Gore 'An Eco-Prophet' By Noel Sheppard Created 2009-11-01 18:35
"Al Gore's views on climate change are advancing as rapidly as the phenomenon itself."
Such was Newsweek science editor Sharon Begley's sub-headline of her proselytizing piece "The Evolution Of An Eco-Prophet [1]."
Fortunately for the Goracle's loyal followers, Begley didn't ask him how the planet could possibly have cooled the past eleven years despite his warnings about the plague "carbon dioxide."
As for all those powerful hurricanes Prophet Al hath foretold, tropical cyclone activity has been at 30-year lows [2] for the last three years.
Even New York Times environmental writer and true believer Andrew Revkin recently noticed [2] that Arctic ice levels have actually been on the rise lately.
But Begley, although being a "science editor," wasn't concerned about anything so mundane as -- ahem -- science in this article. Heavens no.
'Twas much more important to tell parishioners how the eco-prophet looked:
Dressed in blue jeans and a button-down shirt open at the collar, Gore looks younger than his 61 years: the mountain-man beard he grew in the wake of the Florida recount debacle of 2000 is long gone, and the extra weight, which hung on several more years, is nowhere in evidence.
Frankly, that's about how relevant this 3,458-word love letter is.
But what should we expect from someone who wrote a cover-story in August 2007 entitled, "Global-Warming Deniers: A Well-Funded Machine [3]?"
And let's certainly not forget how she blamed [3] last year's floods in the Midwest on climate change.
Most recently, Begley likened [3] healthcare reform opponents to people who believe there's a link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11.
So when she and Newsweek chose to allocate space for almost 3500-words of nothing but praise for a man whose climatic predictions are looking more pathetic than prophetic, why should anyone be surprised?
Truth be told, Gore really IS an eco-PROFIT; Begley just got the spelling wrong.
But nowhere in this piece was any discussion of his investments in the technologies he's supporting to solve a problem he's purporting.
Why should there be? There really wasn't enough room to get into such things.
Yes, this was a FINE piece of investigative journalism from this so-called "science editor."
Fortunately for readers brave enough to suffer through this tome was the following gem nicely hidden in the third to last paragraph:
(Disclosure: in the book, he praises NEWSWEEK for a 2007 story on greenhouse deniers.)
Ah, yes. A modicum of quid pro quo.
Couldn't Newsweek have accomplished that in substantially less than 3,458 words?
Even more embarrassing, one of Newsweek's own contributing editors at the time called [3] that article "fundamentally misleading" and "highly contrived" while concluding, "NEWSWEEK shouldn't have lent it respectability."
I guess for Begley and Newsweek, praise from an eco-prophet is more important than respect from one of their own.
Amen.
No mention of him being a deeply demented frothing lunatic. They really need a new name for that rag.
Eco-ProFIT, maybe...
False prophet ya mean ....
Deut. 18.
The test of a prophet is his accuracy. If he’s wrong, he’s a false prophet.
Hm, doesn’t this mean that global warming is a religion? And therefore not to be encouraged or discouraged by the government?
How dumb are they?
I was stuck in the dentist office on Friday. They had Time magazine and Glamour. I really really tried reading Time.
At least Glamour has pretty girls in it.
>> How dumb are they?
Dumb like foxes.
We are witnessing the creation of the largest and most expensive fraud in the history of mankind.
If they succeed in establishing this fraud, there will be huge losers (us). And huge winners too: these “dummies” perpetrating the fraud.
Newsweak is still around? Does it come in 2-ply or 4-ply?
An Idiot to boot.
More CRAP from News-WEAK.
Newsweek Science Editor: Oxymoronic
Ya, and that too ....
Beware of the prophet who is out to make a profit with carbon offset credits.

"Rationing is already here," done by insurance companies, so why not "start rationing useless interventions right out of medical practice?" asks Newsweek's Sharon Begley in a September 2 "Web exclusive" entitled "Health-Care Rationing: Bring It On."
More like an Eco Puppet.
They spelled profit wrong.
Newsweek Editor Plays Psychiatrist Says Health Care Opponents Suffering from Saddam-9/11 Linkage Delusions
Begley, in a piece posted on Newsweek’s Web site on Aug. 25, theorized that the widespread opposition to President Barack Obama’s health care reform is from any legitimate reason, but instead it exists mostly because people are not willing to go against their own beliefs, but have a desire to satisfy their need to think they’re beliefs are right.
Begley used the analogy that some people refused to dismiss a connection between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 terrorist as why people won’t dismiss some of the “myths” about ObamaCare.
“Some people form and cling to false beliefs about health-care reform (or Obama’s citizenship) despite overwhelming evidence thanks to a mental phenomenon called motivated reasoning, says sociologist says sociologist Steven Hoffman, visiting assistant professor at the University at Buffalo,” Begley wrote.
No - an EGO PROFIT
She is as repulsive as Ed Begley, Jr.
Any relation?
She’s not related to that hollywood has-been and enviro waco extremist Ed Begley, Jr. is she?
Stupid can’t be fixed.
You know, it occurs to me that we really should be telling our dentists and doctors to stop putting uber-liberal trash like Time and Newsweek in their waiting rooms.
More like “Eco-Profit”

The Miseducation of Sharon Begley: One Parents Reaction to Irresponsible Journalism
Newsweek, Anatomy of a Scare, by Sharon Begley.
"There is definitely something to be said for holding a science meeting in Las Vegas, especially when the subject of the meeting is skepticism about pseudoscience and the paranormal. When I took a break from listening to the scholarly papers on peoples gullibility and the psychological basis for the belief in weird stuff, I strolled through the ubiquitous casinos and saw, yup, people believe in things (like the possibility of beating the house) for which there is little to no basis in reality. "
That said, I really have to say that I can't be bothered with the opinions of someone who (like Bagley) looks like something one of my cats puked.
Doctors Vs. Begley
by Dr. Paul Hsieh
The March 9, 2009 Newsweek published an inflammatory piece by Sharon Begley entitled, “ Why Doctors Hate Science”.

Yes, the spirit of Balaam is using Gore instead of a donkey. The donkey was smarter.
She’s still ugly, and still an a**hole. I swear if you inflict any more of her stuff on me, you’ll owe me a pitcher of Stella Artois, and have to laugh at my jokes while I drink it (which could very well be as bad as reading Beagly).
roflol!
Yeah, like Paul Ehrlich was an eco-prophet.
Here in Tennesse, we refer to him as the village idiot!
They aren’t dumb at all. They are promoting cap and trade because they hate America as much as Obama. Gore is just a charlatan making money off the useful idiot masses.
Here in Tennessee; we just refer to him as the "village idiot".
With 20 such cycles known to have happened, and the clock telling us we are on the precipice of another one, I can say with certainty THEY'RE BACK.
People like the Algore want desperately to believe the past is not a guide to the future, but they are wrong.
But when you see the drive to cripple this economy, hamstring businesses, and bring a country that could thrive economically if the free market was just unleashed, regardless of intent, then it's plain stupid.
I understand the intent of these criminals, but in the end nobody benefits. These people may gain power, but over what?
What have they accomplished? Tyranny? In the end it brings down the market, freedom and liberty. It brings nothing but misery.
Chez d'algor, paid for by eco-profits and Apple computer money
“It brings nothing but misery. “
As long as the majority of the people are equally miserable, they are okay with it.
I am so glad I am not liberal or democrat.
My goodness.
