Prophet Mohammed Film Planned
An epic film about the Prophet Mohammad backed by the producer of "The Lord of the Rings" is being planned with the aim of "bridging cultures".

Filming of the £90 million English-language film was set to start in 2011, with Barrie Osborne as its producer, Almoor Holdings, a Qatari media company, said.
The company said the film - in which the Prophet would not be depicted, in accordance with Islamic strictures - was in development and talks were being held with studios, talent agencies and distributors in the United States and Britain.
Mr Osborne told Reuters that the film would be an "international epic production aimed at bridging cultures".
"The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam," he said. The company launched a £120 million international film fund on Oct 31 to invest in film projects amid tight financing in the wake of the financial crisis and plans to focus on Hollywood.
The company said it aimed to attract the "best international talent" to star in the motion picture.
Almoor was set up this year to take advantage of economic opportunities in the entertainment industry, focusing on international film production, Arabic production and animation.
Qatar, the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, aims to become a cultural hub in the region. Earlier this week, it held the first Tribeca Doha Film Festival attended by regional and international filmmakers, stars, agents and distributors.

I wish the producers a lot of luck, and if you need an actor that would appear in such a film... gimme a call..

Wait a minute. I thought it was blasphemy to depict or portray Mad Mo in any medium, and that doing so was a capital offense in islam.

I guarantee protests within a few days. Muslims will claim Mohammed cannot be shown in a film. I believe they rioted for similar reasons in India a few years back when a similar announcement was made.
Not everything. Killing a family member for your hurting your perceived "honor", treating your women like animals or having forced sex with a 10 year old doesn't seem to offend them.

Beats me. The only way I’d ever watch it is if my sawed off infidel head was carried into the theater.
Could they get around the “no depiction” thing by using first-person camerawork? Everything as seen through Mad Mo’s eyes? Hmmm.
Of course, this was just a trial balloon and it will never get off the ground. They’ll announce in a few days that the project was called off over “artistic differences” or “mass murder at the production studio” or “the producer was killed for apostasy” or something similar.
Then again, maybe we could get Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon to star, with Michael Moore as the producer. That might solve a LOT of problems!

They are not going to show Mohammed in the movie, “in keeping with Islamic strictures.” This will be perhaps the first film biography of a person in which the person never appears. I can’t wait to see the heroic adventures of the peaceful prophet...well, I won’t actually see it, of course, but I’ll hear all about it from a cast of thousands. If the film is accurate, there will need to be a lot of beheadings.
