New Jersey story: Governor race heats up (MSM Last Hope)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 1 November 2009 | Bob Drogin

Posted on 11/01/2009 2:24:00 AM PST by Erik Latranyi

Reporting from Hoboken, N.J. - Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, climbed on a stage here the other night and hailed his state's political history at a rally for Jon Corzine, the embattled Democratic governor running for reelection.

"New Jersey," Booker shouted to supporters in the upscale sushi bar, "is a state of impossible dreams."

Until recently, that described Corzine's likely odds at the ballot box Tuesday. But the unpopular governor's race against Christopher Christie, the Republican challenger, has tightened to a dead heat after months of relentless negative campaigning by both sides.

Political analysts say Corzine, 62, now may be poised to pull an upset and keep the state in Democratic hands. Most credit President Obama, at least in part, for the apparent surge of support.

If Corzine wins, the MSM will credit Obama and ignore the GOP victories in Virginia and NY-23.

There’s hope that the people who are leaning toward Dagget will come to their senses. He has no hope of winning, so if you don’t want Corzine it’s a wasted vote. I believe it’s the only hope of overcoming the “Acorn” factor.

Agreed. However, I just do not want the MSM to ignore the rejection of Obama that is taking place in this nation like they did with the Tea Parties, therefore, I want Corzine to lose by any means.

They'll still ignore it.

Political analysts say Corzine, 62, now may be poised to pull an upset and keep the state in Democratic hands.”

Lastest 4 polls:

New Jersey Governor
Rasmussen Reports: Christie 46, Corzine 43, Daggett 8 Christie +3

Stockton/Zogby Christie 39, Corzine 40, Daggett 14 Corzine (+1)

Neighborhood Research (R) Christie 42, Corzine 35, Daggett 8 Christie +7

Fairleigh Dickinson Christie 41, Corzine 39, Daggett 14 Christie +2

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latestpolls/latest_election_polls.html Christie leads by an average of 2.75. I don't see no Corzine upset here.

Most credit President Obama, at least in part, for the apparent surge of support.”

I will make sure to bookmark this article and the writer, so I can check to to see if the author puts the blame on 0bama’s shoulders as well, should Corzine lose.

2.75 might not be enough to overcome the ACORN/SEUI fraud that New Jersey elections are all about!

Jersey is very, very corrupt yes.
But ACORN is not as strong today as they were in November 2008. I bet Glenn Beck sends his people to New Jersey on election day, with cameras to go look specifically for any ACORN cheating that is going on. 0bama and his thugs fear Beck and the light of day being shone upon their criminal acts more than anything.
Plus I think that a lot Darget’s voters may switch over the Christie, because they know they will be throwing their votes away, or electing Corzine, if they vote for Darget. Corzine is very very unpopular. Just look at the guy's approval ratings. His ratings are one of the lowest in the country.

I disagree.

ACORN is a wounded animal that is now on a vendetta againt anything remotely Republican. They have not lost their federal funding (the resolution passed after the prostitute scandal was only temporary).

I hope NJ Freepers will go out with their cameras and try to catch ACORN. We must stop relying on others to get the job done for us. We need to destroy liberals with our bare hands....and that means using video and other peaceful means to our advantage.

ACORN has always been on a vendetta against anything Republican. Nothing new there. The only difference is, they are under a heck of a lot more scrutiny than they have even been before, which is funny, because we have the Dims in power right now.
Bush really let ACORN get away with too much fraud, without doing much about it, maybe for fear of being called a racist(which they did anyway). Who knows?

The MSM is trying to position this race so that if Corzine wins, they can say it is because Obama campaigned for him there, unlike Deeds in VA who did not get Obama involved early enough.

The spin is starting, folks. The MSM is positioning the story to make Obama right and conservatives wrong, just as the White House told the MSM to write it.

Yes and no.
Yes, because Corzine has been behind in the polls all year.
No, because New Jersey is a very blue state that hasn't voted Republican for ages.

I think Bush and others rely on the FEC to do the job and they are certainly not up to the task.

After 2000, our election system should have been revamped. Instead, we have more liberal groups involved to prevent another Florida recount.

The impossible dream being less than half the population supports the majority.

I recall some NJ races in the past where the Republican was ahead until election night then lost. What I’ve seen in this race doesn’t differ markedly from those. NJ is deep blue and I don’t think a R can win there now.

Your recollection may not be accurate. The final polls from the last gubernatorial elections in NJ back in 2005 were:

WNBC/Marist (11/6) 51% 46% Corzine +5
Rasmussen (11/6) 44% 39% Corzine +5
Survey USA (11/4-6) 50% 44% Corzine +6
Quinnipiac (10/31-11/6) 52% 45% Corzine +7
Monmouth/Gannett (11/2-4) 47% 38% Corzine +9
Star-Ledger/Rutgers (10/29-11/3) 43% 37% Corzine +6
Fairleigh Dickinson (10/28-11/3) 43% 41% Corzine +2
Strategic Vision (10/28-30)* 48% 42% Corzine +6
Stockton College-Zogby (10/26-27) 47% 40% Corzine +7
Fairleigh Dickinson (10/25-31) 44% 40% Corzine +4
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/Congressional/NJ_Gov_05.html

At no time was the Republican ever level, let alone ahead by even 1% in the closing stages. Corzine was massively ahead in the polls by up to 9% in the last week of polling, which is totally different from now, where Christie is ahead in 3 out of the the 4 last polls.

Lastest 4 polls:

New Jersey Governor
Rasmussen Reports: Christie 46, Corzine 43, Daggett 8 Christie +3

Stockton/Zogby Christie 39, Corzine 40, Daggett 14 Corzine (+1)

Neighborhood Research (R) Christie 42, Corzine 35, Daggett 8 Christie +7

Fairleigh Dickinson Christie 41, Corzine 39, Daggett 14 Christie +2

our pockets. its not teachers salaries either at a 60k average. Most classes in urban areas have 25-30 students so when you start multiplying days worked times hours times students they don’t get overpaid. Benefits and administration however are another thing altogether.
I think the benefits are easy to deal with since they tend to be rather open ended and have the characteristics of a black hole. Raise salaries, cut benefits. Teachers unions however will probably raise bloody hell at the idea of their people getting paid more to take less gravy.

New Jersey is hopelessly corrupt. There quite simply is no way Corzine will lose this thing, and he knows it. Even if NOBODY voted for him, he would still win. That’s New Jersey.

NJ always goes Democrat because there are far more tax consumers (gov. employees and welfare slobs) than tax payers. The tax consumers are just voting for a raise that the other guy pays.

Something smells here and not sure what it is?

Chris Daggett is a putative Republican who has been politically active in New Jersey politics and environmental bureaucracy. His last apparent brush with official state position an appointment from Gov. Corzine to an environmental permit task force.

It would not surprise me if he is being fed money and support from liberal supporters to do just what is happening now and yes there is nothing illegal about it. Gov. Corzine is so deeply unpopular otherwise that he would face almost certain defeat in a standard 2 candidate race. Only by having a liberal RINO in the race does he have a chance because Daggett pulls enough wishy-washee voters from Christie to allow Corzine to use his personal fortune to smear and lie his way into another term. Can anyone tell me the last anti-Daggett commercial run by Corzine?

I see that the left coast DNC propaganda paper is at it again. La Times and the NY Times both have permanent red phones to the DNC and Obama’s war room and the truth is not to be found with them except by coincidence. I can only hope that what others say is correct, that when the anti-Corzine voters get to the ballot box they will realize that a vote for Daggett is a vote for Corzine to misrule for another 4 years!
