Bush jokes about new life

NEW DELHI - FORMER US president George W. Bush stepped briefly back into the limelight on Saturday, using a conference speech in New Delhi to defend his record and to crack jokes about his retirement.
Bush chose an annual gathering of business leaders in India, a country where his reputation rode high throughout his time in power, to make a rare public appearance nine months after leaving office.
'I have a different life now,' Mr Bush, 63, said wryly. 'I am an old, retired guy.' Reflecting on how his status had changed, he said he recently visited a hardware store in Texas that had offered him a job as a 'greeter' who stands outside to welcome customers.
He said that inside the store a man came up to him and asked if anyone had ever told him that he looked just like George W. Bush. Mr Bush said he replied that it happened a lot, and the man said: 'Gosh, that must make you mad.'
The former president said he had suggested to his wife Laura that it was time she took up cooking, and she had suggested that he might take up washing dishes. 'Nothing's happened,' he told the amused audience.
He added that he was using his free time to write, and joked that 'people said I couldn't even read a book, much less write one.' And he said he was delighted to discover that now he got paid to give speeches, though 'thankfully for you, I don't get paid by the word.' -- AFP
We miss you so much W.
I miss you greatly, President Bush. The country does too, even though some people may not realize it yet.
Awwwww,I just love him.
Yes, we miss him! The whole world misses him (even the Euroweenies). The whole world sees this chlidish narcissist as the “leader of the free world” and either laughs (Islamoterrorists and fellow commies) or cries (Poland, Czech Republic, Israel, and all the freedom loving people of the world).
(Have told MANY libbers that I know that even they will say they miss W one day)....
GOD BLESS you Mr. President!
Well, for $19, you and your entire office can see him give a speech! He’ll be appearing in San Antonio, Tx,on Dec 2. http://www.getmotivated.com/city.aspx?a=5125

Bush wants OK to spend $700B
Bailout proposal sent to Congress seeks authorization to spend as much as $700 billion to buy troubled mortgage-related assets.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — President Bush asked Congress on Saturday for the authority to spend as much as $700 billion to purchase troubled mortgage assets and contain the financial crisis.
The legislative proposal - the centerpiece of what would be the most sweeping economic intervention by the government since the Great Depression - was sent by the White House overnight to lawmakers.
The plan matches the scope of the problem, Bush said.
“It is a big package because it’s a big problem,” Bush told reporters at a news conference. “The risk of doing nothing far outweighs the risk of the package.”
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, lawmakers and their aides are expected to work through the weekend in an effort to craft a bill swiftly. Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill said they expect the bill to go before a vote within days.

I had my best years with Bush for president. He looks better every day. We have many more problems now than we had when Bush was president.

I can’t stand our current president, and I don’t miss our former president one bit, or the two before him.

Yeah, we miss ya!
Sigh... everyday I miss him as I read/watch/listen to the news from Washington D.C. Also, I have recently wished that Dick Cheney become an employee of Blackwater and help take care of business. A girl can dream :)
I believe history will be kind to President Bush!
Well, that depends on who writes the history...
the "most powerful writer since Julius Caesar" or a sane person.
Yeah, I miss they way he cleaned out the Treasury. What a class act.! He rebuilt Iran and not once did he ever expect anything in return. A class act I I tell ya’! Like the way he supported Arlen Specter. And that monument across our southern border, beautiful, si? Let’s elect another Bush or two.
me too! Bigtime
Right-on!!
I must've missed that part.
This one ex president very confortable in his OWN SKIN
