BARACK OBAMAS most devilish political move since the 2008 campaign was to appoint a Republican congressman from upstate New York as secretary of the Army. This weeks election to fill that vacant seat has set off nothing less than a riotous and bloody national G.O.P. civil war. No matter what the results in that race on Tuesday, the Republicans are the sure losers. This could be a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats through 2010, and perhaps beyond.
The governors races in New Jersey and Virginia were once billed as the marquee events of Election Day 2009 a referendum on the Obama presidency and a possible Republican comeback. But preposterous as it sounds, the real action migrated to New Yorks 23rd, a rural Congressional district abutting Canada. That this pastoral setting could become a G.O.P. killing field, attracting an all-star cast of combatants led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, William Kristol and Newt Gingrich, is a premise out of a Depression-era screwball comedy. But such farces have become the norm for the conservative movement whether the participants are dressing up in full tea party drag or not.

I’ve got your civil war right here!
The wussies are scared....
Is this guy on something? Why post this tripe?

Frank Rich , a commie writer for the NY slimes, will have to eat these words next week. (I pray)
LOL! NYT, can you spell...S A R A H !!! - the RINO slayer.

"...like that grizzly guards her cubs, as a mother naturally guards her own. I will keep that vow wherever the road may lead." - Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009
Just keep telling yourself that Frank, until next November. Then you can whine about “temper tantrums”.
Some serious whistling past the graveyard on that one.
Good Lord, everyone at the NYSlimes is smoking wacky tobacky.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find only things evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelogus
Frank Rich gettin' a little nervous, mebbe?
wrong...wrong...wrong....Obama planned on getting a liberal in this seat and he ain’t gonna
Frank Rich is heinous. Looks like a victory here for the Moose Shooter.
Frank Rich is heinous. Looks like a victory here for the Moose Shooter.
I don’t know how you spin a triple loss for your side as a win - but Frank Rich obviously does.
It’s germane to post this tripe because Frank Rich is an “influential” NY Times writer. We should be watching what the enemy thinks because when they get scared and start spinning stupidly, which is what Rich is doing, then you know you’re winning.
You might also want to avoid posting your comment three times, especially want referring to tripe.
Makes you look dumb.
heh.
Obama thought by appointing a Republican he could turn the seat to dem because everyone is so happy with Hope N Change. The backfiring happened to Obama, not the Republicans.
Where’s the barf alert?
yikes...rich is a nut case.
LOL! There are none so blind as those who will not see.
The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York
The battle for upstate New York confirms just how swiftly the right has devolved into a wacky, paranoid cult that is as eager to eat its own as it is to destroy Obama.

Two Wrongs Make Another Fiasco
The most surreal aspect of the Afghanistan debate is the Beltway credence given to the ravings of the blunderers who got us into this mess.
When you start with a faulty premise you're sure to arrive at a faulty conclusion.
No civil war here (anymore), it’s just been decided. There WILL BE a core set of principals that Republicans will have to support if they want to be left alone (either in the Primaries or General Elections)...unlike what the liberals want the country to believe, there is some flexibility...for example, a person trying to win statewide as a Republican in Maine will be given a wider berth than a person trying to win statewide in South Carolina (i.e., watch out gramnesty).
But there are limits, and having a husband who’s a big-time union thug, and then supporting Card Check, are beyond those limits - especially in a Republican-leaning district.
GASP! No wonder they want to trample on the Constitution!
Civil discourse via political promotion is now bloody and riotous according to the NYT. ; )
Bring it on you anti-American way, soon to be destitute financially, (in a free market anyway) worthless rag of "news"paper.
Since when are the NYT and the Dems opposed to Stalinism?
I think you hit the nail on the head.
Oh yes makes perfect sense we win the seat but we are still losers? I don’t think so and the truth of the matter is that we may have just woke up the national RNC about what we the people want!
He left out Rush, darn it!
Rebellion is in the air (and its about time)!
Good news, now that Scozzafava has called it quits, it paves the way for Hoffman to win on Tuesday.
He thinks a paradigm shift is a "civil war," because that's what he wants.
He won't get it when Palin takes over leadership of the GOP.
He won't understand it when 2010 is a bloodbath for the Democrats.
He Frank Rich, if conservatives winning seats is actually losing, then may conservatives lose all their way into power.
Frank Rich is tying his tiny mind into knots trying to deny that conservatives are on the ascendancy. It’s going to be interesting to seem him go into complete meltdown mode next November.
Is a ‘mega-barf’ alert still SOP for anything written by the RAT cult’s most notorious pontificator of poo?
Leftist Wetdreams, LMAO!
Let me put this another way...THE BIGGEST FEAR among Democrats and the MSM is that conservatives again identify with the Republican Party...they know when that happens you have LANDSLIDES and Dems are set back for years, if not decades.
So everything they say and do is meant to separate us from the Republican Party. There is a REAL FEAR that we are starting to take over the party and will move it towards us.
This drivel is rich.
A leftist comparing conservatives to Stalin is pure projection. It’s Obama and his leftists that engage in Stalinist tactics. Remember what Stalin did to Trotsky for party domination. There are precious few Democrat moderates now and Rich’s party is clearly run by hard leftists (or Stalinists if you prefer)
Typically when opponents criticize you on strategy, you’re headed in the right direction and exposing your opponent’s deepest fears. We all know that Palin is feared by the left much more than Newt or McCain.
Wait, a radical leftwinger is calling conservatives “Stalinists” for wanting their party to be less leftist??
huh??
pot meet kettle?
ANY article that uses the term “teabagger” goes into the bottom of the birdcage without further review, for proper treatment.
This part I agree with.
I hadn't heard much about why Obama made this pick. It reminds me of when Obama picked Gregg for Commerce. What was the ulterior motive for the choice?

If the lefty was right why would they be airlifting in Biden on Monday? He doesn’t answer that one.
Silly statist says “anti-government” like it as a bad thing to be.
