Maddow Guest Jane Hamsher: Democrats Could Close Groton Sub Base to Punish Lieberman

Yet another example of the folly of assigning liberals to guard duty. Joining Rachel Maddow on her MSNBC show Thursday to vent about that pesky wabbit Joe Lieberman was Fire Dog Lake blogger Jane Hamsher.
Democrats wield considerable leverage over Lieberman, Hamsher opined, to keep him from joining a GOP filibuster of ObamaCare or punish him if he does --
MADDOW: ... I think youre right to point out that other senators sort of gently expressing their disapproval of his proverbial toplessness at this point is a bigger deal than it would be in the real world, that their words do actually sort of calibrate differently. But what leverage can they really bring to bear on him in order to get him to get in line?

But, you know, he also needs the sub base at Groton, which is, you know, the submarine version of the F-22, in order to stay in the good graces of Connecticut's citizens while he does stuff like this, and that's something that could, you know, potentially go as well.Yeah, let's put hard-working Americans out of work to score petty political party points in DC.

Maybe we should threaten Maddow with getting rid of Female wallet chains, Wahl hair trimmers and reruns of “The L Word”. Nothing like a person with what up till 30 years ago the American Psychological Association called a mental disorder, lecturing on what the rest of us normal people should think. Yes Rachel you are defective and evil, that voice that screams at you before you drift off at night is right.

I grew up in East Lyme, and like many of my friends, my father worked at Electric Boat.
Of course the Democrats would close a major part of the economy to punish someone politically. The left is infamous for harming (or outright killing, depending on the culture) the citizens of a place for political misdeeds. It’s been that way since the Committee for Public Safety started executing priests and nuns for not towing the party line. So - no surprise here.
I also remember being a teenager in the 1970s and seeing what happened when Pres. Carter cancelled the submarine contracts. My hometown became a boarded-up ghost town - I moved away. Sad to see the Democrats are still treating southeastern Connecticut with the same disdain.

I echo your sentiments. Orange County has always been a thorn in the Dems side, here, in Calif; let the record show the OC vote plurality, in 1990 denied DiFi the governorship that she lost. I found it to be no coincidence that a few years later, during the Clinton administrations, our two big military bases, El Toro and Tustin USMC Air Stations were shuttered. Everything with these clowns is about politics and power, first. Anyone who thinks that there is not at least a kernel of truth in this threat against Lieberman and Conn is sadly mistaken.
To: chuck_the_tv_out
Remember all the bases that Clinton closed? I find this to be a credible threat.

Then again cooler heads may realize that concentrating more military forces in the part of the country most likely to secede again is not a good idea.

Yup. Dodd AND the rest of the CT Congressional Delegation. Which is all Democrats.
Dodd and DeLauro have enough pull in the Senate and House to stop this sort of thing. Not that it's even going to be raised. The person raising the issue is a moron who doesn't understand the concept of 1.) political power and 2.) political collateral damage.

A dem president close a military base for political revenge. Absolutely. LBJ did it to the people of Amarillo, TX when he closed Amarillo AFB (a SAC - B52 base) right after the election when he defeated Goldwater. Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle went for Goldwater and Johnson immediately issued the order to close the base. LBJ never did understand why Texans would vote against another Texan in a national election. I would not put anything past a low life piece of $#!+ like zero...red
