REALITY CHECK ON THE OBAMA AS CAESAR CULT
The Dakota Beacon ^ | 30 October 2009 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 10/31/2009 11:27:25 AM PDT by JLS

Valerie Jarrett announced the other day that “we’re going to speak truth to power”.

Who’s Valerie Jarrett? She’s “Senior Advisor” to the President of the United States – ie, the leader of the most powerful nation on the face of the earth. You would think the most powerful man in the most powerful nation would find a hard job finding anyone on the planet to “speak truth to power” to. But I suppose if you’re as eager to do so as his Senior Advisor, there’s always somebody out there: The Supreme Leader of Iran. The Prime Minister of Belgium. The Deputy Tourism Minister of the Solomon Islands. But no. The Senior Advisor has selected targets closer to home: “I think that what the administration has said very clearly is that we’re going to speak truth to power. When we saw all of the distortions in the course of the summer, when people were coming down to town hall meetings and putting up signs that were scaring seniors to death…”

Ah, right. People “putting up signs”. Can’t have that, can we? The most powerful woman in the inner circle of the most powerful man on earth has decided to speak truth to powerful people standing in the street with handwritten placards saying “THIS GRAN’MA ISN’T SHOVEL READY”. Was it only a week ago that I wrote about this Administration’s peculiar need for domestic enemies?

Was Bibi speaking truth to power when he reminded Obama that Israel is a sovereign state? It’s true. And Obama is powerful. So does that count? Huh? Huh? Does it?

“we’re going to speak truth to power”

This is a central problem with the White House. They campaigned primarily on supplying red meat to their followers, portraying Bush as some sort of genius Satan who was cheating everyone in America with devious schemes. Now that they are in the White House, they keep looking for Demons and scapegoats without accomplishing any positive results for voters. They were more effective as professional nitpickers.

Jarrett may have inadvertently spoken words that betray her real fear: The People of the United States are the real power. The people in the White House had better remember that.

I agree - some day 100 years from now historians will write
about the effect drugs had on the 2008 elections - not just
Zero’s people but the brain-dead-addled voters as well.

If Jarrett wants to speak truth to power the first stop should be at the office of her Lord And Master Obama, and she should tell him what an incompetent, narcissistic jerk he is. But something tells me she doesn’t have the guts to do that. Easier to put the blame on ordinary citizens who take the time to show up at town halls and protests.

Good article.

Valerie Jarrett really said this???

Sheesh.

What a whacked out little commie.

Speaking truth to those “powerful” sign holders and marchers on 912? Those big bad mobs who had the audacity to gather by the hundreds of thousands to protest her communist boss and his comrades in Congress and their communizing of America?

Speakig truth to the powerful Fox News network, to the powerful Sarah Palin, to the powerful Town Haller gray hairs?

Come on, Valerie.

Truth = LIES for you.

Powerful (in your comments) = ANYONE who IS WORKING AGAINST YOUR COMMUNIST AGENDA.

What Suetonis said about Julius Caesar's literary acumen. From the "The Twelve Caesars" by Gaius Suetonis Tranquillus, translated by Robert Graves, Penguin Books, 1957. (Suetonis was a member of the Equine Class, who had been disenfranchised by the Caesars and is generally considered hostile to Emperors and the Empire and looked back fondly on the days of the Republic.) Suetonis is generally accepted as the primary source for Plutarch.

In Book I, titled Julius Caesar, Chapter 56, he makes a very favorable assessment of Caesar's literary abilities. He quotes one Hirtius thus:

"These memories are so highly rated by all judicious critics that the opportunity of enlarging and improving on them, which he purports to offer to historians, seems in fact withheld from them. And, as his friends, we admire this feat even more than strangers can: they appreciate the faultless grace of his style, we know how rapidly and easily he wrote."

You should really read all of Chapter 56 to get an appreciation of Caesar as an author. Also, in Chapter 55 he says:

"Caesar equalled, (sic) if he did not surpass, the greatest orators and generals the world has ever known. His prosecution of Dolabella unquestionably placed him in the first rank of advocates; and Cicero, discussing the matter in his 'Brutus' confessed that he knew no more eloquent speaker than Caesar 'whose style is chaste, pellucid, and grand, not to say noble'.

Cicero wrote to Cornelius Nepos:

"Very well, then! Do you know any man who, even if he has concentrated on the art of oratory to the exclusion of all else, can speak better than Caesar? Or whose vocabulary is so varied and yet so exact?"

I wonder what Cicero would have made of our orator-in-chief? Remember Caesar didn't have TOTUS.

It's true - liberals see themselves as powerless little people taking on the powerful... Only as Steyn points out - THEY control the most powerful country in the world and they're taking on citizens holding up home-made signs.

...”central problem”, Obama is the front man to all the Caesars that are controlling the WH agenda. This is a good thing, soon they will be eliminating their own when things don’t go their way. If they’re busy infighting, less time spent on the “enemies”...

...Let them go on, soon, this will be self destruction...

At some point the Caesar cult has to manifest itself in an achievement – I mean a real achievement, not merely some dud prize handed out by Norwegian lefties. Afghanistan is his now: Notwithstanding “years of drift”, whether it winds up as victory or defeat or is his call. It’s Obama’s war. It’s Obama’s economy. The stimulus bill is his stimulus, and for $787 billion it created 30,000 new jobs (according to the government) or (according to the Associated Press) 25,000. Either way, you do the math. It’s Obama’s unemployment rate, Obama’s dollar, Obama’s debt. Pace Valerie Jarrett, the truth is you are the power. And those on the receiving end of it are going to be speaking a lot louder in the months ahead.

Thank you for posting another fine Mark Steyn article, JLS.
