Japan-U.S. ties need revamp: Hatoyama

Ministers mulling options over Nago base move

In light of next year marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty, Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Thursday it's time the overall defense alliance is reviewed.

While stressing how the alliance is still a significant cornerstone in Japan's foreign policy, Hatoyama said his administration plans to promote a "multilayered development" of the alliance in the medium to long term.

"The Japan-U.S. Security Treaty will be marking its 50-year milestone," Hatoyama said on the second day of the Diet's question-and-answer period, responding to questions posed in the Upper House by Yoshimasa Hayashi of the Liberal Democratic Party.

"I'd like to promote a comprehensive review (of the alliance) in the administration," he said.

Translation: we’ve got a nut with nuclear capabilities launching test missiles our way, an increasingly muscular China in the region, and the United States headed by Neville Chamberlin’s ideological descendent. Maybe we should start thinking about defending ourselves.

Wrong. In September, the Japanese electorate ended the reign of the Liberal Democratic Party, which had governed the country with but one short interruption since 1955. The LDP had built its foreign policy around the military alliance with the U.S., but the party has now lost control of both houses of the Diet, or legislature. Yukio Hatoyama, the new prime minister, says nice things about America—but only when he is prompted to do so. And, significantly, he has signaled he wants to shift Japan’s focus to China and the rest of Asia.

The world is going to hell. Without a strong captain at the helm of the United States, the tug boat captains (of the other countries) are now getting their own life boats ready.

The storm is a commin’.

Amazing how so many Nations are "feeling their oats" now that the US has an "appeaser-in-chief".

I thought The One was going to bring the World together:

Russian is getting more aggressive;

China is getting stronger and pretty much owns our nation's debt, while building up their military capabilities;

Obami is committed to reducing OUR military capabilities;

Iran is STILL screwing with the World community even with their so-called new nuke plant transparency. We all know that's a farce. But obami is good with it.

The UN is now more active in their denigration of Israel and demanding more money from the West via the silly "global warming" initiatives. Obami supports such efforts;

North Korea is becoming more threatening with every missle launch and The He campaigns;

Hugo Chavez's Venezuela is nationalizing many private enterprises, including American companies and turning a once great nation into a Marxist shithole while Obambi sits on the sidelines;

Obambi thinks he can appease Castro, along with his Hollywood idiots;

The Palistians have become more imboldened. So has Syria and other terrorist supporters;

The Taliban is re-surging and the prick can't make a decision while he plays golf and attends his fund-raisers and other events;
Obambi massive spending will spend out way out of debt, according to obambi and his reid/pelosi travelers. ALL reasonable people realize that you can't spend your way out of debt;
Obami pushes alternative energy sources that don't have a chance in hell of making any impact for decades. He fights against using our American resources in oil drilling, natural gas production, not to mention nuclear plant building.
Race relations are worse than ever.

I know I'm missing many other actions, but I don't have the time to list them all.

THE ONE was going to bring the World together. What happen? Appeasement is his Utopian ideal. Accordingly, that was suppose to make the World FEEL better about the USA because of all our transgressions.

Obambi is our new Chamberlain. Much of the World is laughing at him and his stupid Marxist ideals, not to mention his weakness. Hell, even France is saying enough and moving away from their socialist "political correctness" and deporting Muslims, while espousing their distrust of our so-called USA leadership. France? Of all people? That says a lot.

Japan still isn’t able to extend their military to the Hawaiian Islands, and we’re having no shortage of anime. Not sure I understand what needs to change.

The US footprint in Japan has been drastically reduced since we were there, probably by 2/3rds of what it was 1950-1965. No doubt the Japanese would like to quit paying for the cost of our bases on their soil. Okinawa is the new flash point.
