Dalai Lama Lesson

India shows the world how to stand firm with China.

As President Obama prepares for his trip to Beijing next month, he'd be wise to cast an eye toward New Delhi, where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is showing the rest of the world how to deal with Beijing when it gets into a bullying mood.

At issue is the Dalai Lama's proposed trip next month to visit Tibetan Buddhist believers in Arunachal Pradesh, a province governed by India but claimed by China since the 1962 border war. Chinese spokesperson Ma Zhaoxu said last week the trip "further exposed the anti-China and separatist nature of the Dalai clique."

But India stood firm. During a regional summit over the weekend Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says he "explained to Premier Wen [Jiabao] that the Dalai Lama is our honored guest; he is a religious leader."

...This contrasts with Mr. Obama's decision not to meet with the Dalai Lama earlier this month. His cave-in broke Presidential precedent and emboldened Beijing to step up anti-Dalai Lama rhetoric, particularly in—guess where—India, which has hosted Tibet's government-in-exile for more than 50 years.

Thank you, Mr. Singh. Too bad our Usurper was too clueless to meet with this illustrious crusader for freedom for his people.

Each neighborhood knows how to take care of the bullies. You’ll notice we don’t take any lip from Canada.

I don’t think that people understand yet that The Won is firmly on the side of the communist bullies.

Illustrious crusader? The Dalai Lama is a joke. He proclaimed the morality of communism while the communists were clubbing his fellow monks like baby seals.

One wonders what kind of deal this thug cut with the Chicoms to allow him to "escape." I have no use for the Dalai Lama.

I think Gandhi was a far bigger fraud a la India than Dalai Lama is re Tibet. Yes, I know he enjoys being a celebrity but am unaware of the “proclaiming” that you refer to.

He enlightens his people and strives to enlighten
every being.

The “shining” Obmama should meditate on compassion
and realise that the light he thinks surrounds him alone
is that of the whole intellect, blissful and shining.
His disrespect of HH the Lama will not amount to a drop
of water in the sea.

Both of those show alarming naivete, where he apparently doesn’t know whereof he speaks. I’ll wait for other sources on those, though, thanks.

In defense of James Earl Carter who is often compared to Barrack Hussein Obama, Carter not only did welcome Pope John Paul of Poland to America , but to the White House in 1979.
Carter may have regreted it, but he did it.

I’ve been noticing since 2006 or so, India is the place to watch, to foster democracy and Christianity if not economic prosperity. Yes, people complain about reaching Indians when they call for Dell tech support or customer service, but this is one of the ways in which the Bush administration built bridges to this all-important nation. They identify strongly with the West and western ways. They make lovely citizens here, from what I can see and... India is poised to pass China in total population in 3-5 years, I believe. Too bad our leadership at present is not as strong as theirs.
