Maybe nobody wanted to be his campaign manager for fear of Newsom hitting on their wives? ;-)

Moonbeam is in like Flynn, unless DiFi throws her hat in, I guess.

Not sure if Moonbeam is ‘in.’ When more is revealed about him, he may be ‘out’ of the race as well.

That phone call taping business, and the personal life issues (though most in leftist CA wouldn’t care much about that) could cause him some trouble.

Gavin Newsom quits race for California governor

October 30, 2009 |  3:15 pm
LA Now

Newsom_3 San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who has been seen as a leading contender to be the next governor of California, announced today that he is quitting the race.

Newsom is withdrawing from the Democratic primary amid lackluster poll numbers and meager fund-raising receipts. His withdrawal leaves state Atty. Gen.  Jerry Brown, who is expected to run even though he has not officially entered the race, with little opposition in the Democratic primary.

----------

Although Newsom had been effectively running for more than a year, his campaign never gained much traction. Even in his hometown, which Newsom touted as a model of cutting-edge policies, his candidacy was widely derided among civic insiders.

----------

Newsom had repeatedly told those close to him that he did not want to embarrass himself in the governor's race.

Update:

"With a young family and responsibilities at city hall, I have found it impossible to commit the time required to complete this effort the way it needs to -- and should be -- done," Newsom said in a statement.

He did not know he had a family before he announced he was a candidate?

My guess he is stepping out of someone's way. Probably Di Fi, or possibly Pelosi?

Moonbeam is 100 times preferable to this Newsom scumbag. May even be preferable to RINO Meg Whitman.

Something tells me that someone has something really juicy on this guy and he’s been “warned”.

He seems to be too much of an egomaniac to just bow out at this point. Somebody’s got his number.

i agree that Brown is not an acceptable candidate.
however Whitman has a poor personal voting record and she supports amnesty for illegal aliens so she is not acceptable either.

Let me suggest that everyone go out and vote for a third party candidate that IS NOT a professional politician.

let me suggest looking at www.nightingaleforgovernor.com.
she is energetic, conservative and not a professional politician.

I suspect that he found no big-name contributors to carry his campaign. This economic downturn...has trimmed back the dozen or so guys who would carry a governor or senator candidate. I’m guessing he added up the cost and the lack of funding....and gave up early. Face it...in California...you need $100 million to run a top-class governor’s race. Anything less than $60 million in your warchest, won’t do much.

His exwife, Kimberly Guilfoyle hinted very strongly that he was, uh, that he batted for the other team.

Altho, i don’t see that as being anything other than a positive for governor of CA.
