Driving without license OK in SF -- cyclists and pedestrians beware (This is for real-not satire)
Examiner ^ | 10/26/09 | Arthur Bruzzone

Posted on 10/30/2009 1:32:17 PM PDT by AngelesCrestHighway

SAN FRANCISCO-CA --- In 2007, the last reporting period. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported 28 pedestrians fatalities, 440 cyclists injured, a total of 52 people killed in traffic accidents in San Francisco.

Now, it's reported today that the city will no longer enforce the law for first time offenders of driving without a license. Worse, the new police chief endorses the proposal.

San Francisco Police Chief Gascon is quoted as saying that the city is "trying to be sensitive to all of the communities we serve..."We recognize that this is a problem within the Hispanic community, where people working here can't get a driver's license because of their immigration status," Gascón said.

The police chief might want to develop some sensitivity to the 3,632 who were injured in traffic accidents in San Francisco or the five deaths and 346 motorcyclists' injuries, reported by the CHP. Traffic injuries are on the rise. Sensitivity does not allow the city or police chief to decide how to enforce the law. The law, driving with a license, is intended to protect against incompetent drivers.

“...the city [San Francisco] will no longer enforce the law for first time offenders of driving without a license...”

So this is being done as favoritism to illegal aliens who are Hispanic.

Well, a preferential treatment under laws supposed to be evenly enforced without preference ALWAYS results in vigilantism: citizens without recourse to justice will take the law into their own hands.

That goes for drunk drivers who no longer have a license too, right?

Can't discriminate and permit some people to drive without a license and not others.

These guys are going to get sued off the face of the earth. The minute some dude who doesn’t have a license hits someone, you can kiss the budget of SF goodbye forever.

Traffic tickets are chiefly about the revenue and not public safety these days.

No sense in getting caught up in a paperwork trap if it isn’t going to payoff.

Tag and release.

...”We recognize that this is a problem within the Hispanic community, where people working here can't get a driver's license because of their immigration status,” Gascón said.

Yeah ILLEGAL, right?

Heck, just let em drive without a license - after all we wink at them coming here ILLEGALLY. They don't obey our immigration laws? They don't want to learn English or assimilate. So WHY should they get a license to drive which is required by law? It only follows that will break more laws when they are ILLEGAL.

Don’t ask them to obtain an ID under false pretense. That only mounts up the potential charges against them.

So there are two sets of law enforcement. One for citizens and one for OTHER.

Citizens are expected to open their wallets and pay periodic traffic tickets to the city to keep officers on the roads writing tickets.

From a purely anarchic point of view, should’nt all citizens of SF stop bothering to get licenses and other forms of ID. Further, should they drop car registrations and insurance since their city fathers (or whatever) deemed it unnecessary to enforce. Finally, if you have an accident in SF with no valid license, registered car, or insurance, you can simply walk away from it after giving the police an invented name and address. BTW, it works that way in DC with foreign nationals. I think we need to adopt these measures so that we can enjoy equality with our international job seekers.

If the police are not going to DO THEIR JOBS and ENFORCE THE BASIC AND UNDERSTOOD LAWS, then disband the force. They can employ detectives to solve cases (or let private investigators pick up the slack) and let everyone else go with self-defense and hired protection.

Now, it's reported today that the city will no longer enforce the law for first time offenders of driving without a license.

It's not just San Francisco.

I had to attend traffic court recently for not displaying my toll road transponder in my front window.

Case after case of non-English speaking defendants came before the judge where one of the charges was driving without a license.

The judge politely asked (the court-supplied interpreter) if the defendant had a valid license.

The defendant politely replied (through the interpreter) that they did not. The judge then simply assessed them a $500 fine and asked if they could pay it today, to which the defendants replied that they could and were sent down to the clerk's office to pay the fine.

So, in reality, no one really cares whether you have a license or not as long as you're willing to pay to play.

Set up roadblocks on every highway in and out of the city. The highway patrol has probable cause to believe that anyone going in or out is driving without a license

Welcome to Mexico

We don't need no Steenken laws

Gascon is just a wannabe Caudillo, wants to make sure he's got a lotta Companeros who owe their butts to him

Look for him to make a move upwards in the not too distant future - he's got ambitions.

Isn't it wonderful we let this creep into our country as a refugee when he was a kid?

He's clearly beyond grateful to be out of Castro's jail

Not

You get justice either by the rule of law or by force, taking your money or your moneys worth.
If someone causes an accident and the law will not hold them accountable who is going to be held accountable??? How are they going to be held accountable????
I think the citizens of San Francisco aren't going to live with this one too long. The big insurance companies are going to stop writing coverage for this bastardized system. I hope the state and the fed quits giving them all highway funds until they enforce existing laws.

Save the San Francisco restaurants before we bomb the city. SF, bar none, has the best restaurants in the world. You can even go to a greasy spoon $5 special buffet joint on Market St. and get great food. The city has fantastic hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurants hidden on the second floor of Chinese gyp-joint Mah-jong parlors. I can’t find good soup-soba anywhere in America except SF. Save SF!!!

Sorry, my stomach has a long memory.

This is their way of making sure the poor illegals can drive without being ticketed and arrested for driving without a license. SF has completely lost their collective minds. This should bring a huge amount of illegals into SF, maybe they will change their minds when citizens start being killed off by the dozens by illegal aliens driving without licenses.

If they have no license, they have no insurance either.
I would think that will open SF up to considerable damages for losses suffered as a result.
