The Iowa Family Policy Center makes official what Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton suggested to me earlier this week: that the former Alaska governor won't be appearing before the social conservative group later this month.
Apparently, issuing a statement before she commits suggesting she may be coming and dangling $100,000 at her isn't the way to coax Palin into an appearance.
"Iowa Family Policy Center ACTION received word this morning that Governor Sarah Palin is unable to accept our speaking invitation due to her book tour contractual commitments, which cannot be changed.
We extended our invitation knowing she would be in the middle of her book tour and the chances of her being able to accept any invitations were extremely slim.
She has asked if she could speak at a future mutually agreeable date. She will not accept any fees for her appearance."

TeamSearah’s been sending emails for a week about trying to raise money for this. Can’t Palin’s folks just talk to them and others and avid all this agita and uncertainty around all these invitations?
Can’t the emailers contact Sarah’s people and get permission?
My understanding is that this was supposed to be a private negotiation and invitation. Unfortunately the story leaked out early (and unintentionally); IFPC caught early wind of the leak and figured they might as well just put out a press release.
This is another hit piece on Sarah. A previous thread included statements from Palin spokeswoman that Sarah’s upcoming book tour schedule incl the TV interview with the Orca would not allow this stop.
Well, she’s appearing in Milwaukee a week from today for Wisconsin Right to Life, and I have tickets!!!!
WHo cares if she can’t go. If they can’t come up with the money - F-em. We’re supposed to be capitalists and she is doing a lot for a lot of candidates (Doug Hoffman will owe her a lot if he wins) They leaked this to shame her and I am proud of her that she has not backed down. Pawlenty needs Iowa, Palin, not so much.
It is unclear who is at fault in this. It seems that there are always folks inviting her to things they know she will refuse to generate their own publicity.

Read another article on the subject that was all about Iowa voters thinking that because of their “special” status in Presidential elections; everyone should come to them for free - even if booking you allows them to generate over 100,000 more in revenue.
I say we need to put a stop to this crap where some states think they have the right to select our party nominees before anybody else.
What did Iowa ever do to deserve this “special” status that they feel is their birthright?
Some states are just “more equal” than others I suppose.
In the past, I have blamed Meg Stapleton for screwing up the speaking appearances. For the Iowa case, I blame Team Sarah for the screw up this time. Team Sarah really made Palin look bad with the fundraising drive. They did it without consulting Palin herself. Team Sarah is supposed to pro-Palin. Sarah Palin supporters do a better job of making Sarah look bad than Levi Johnston and the AK anklebiters.
Liars, cheats, and thieves will always be with us.
Great Link!
And that leads us back to Jonny Martin himself. He was in charge of writing the Politicos GOP blog during the 2008 caucus season. And it always seemed like, whenever the Romney people had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates, Jonny was their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.
Some things never change.
Politico is a Liberal anti Palin site.
They did the buid up knowing she had
book tour contractual commitments.
Politico tries to set Sarah Palin up for failure
but it doesn’t work, only for those who hate her and Conservatism to begin with.
Give credit where its due. Allah Pundit defend Palin on the Iowa trip issue.
Sadly the episode has given Chris Matthews and Slate another reason to bash Palin.
