Quantcast Political Insider The Democratic attack on Mary Norwood
7:03 am October 30, 2009, by Jim Galloway Cover image of Flyer sent by Democratic Party of Georgia declaring Mary Norwood a Republican
The first sharp, negative attack of the Atlanta mayoral race hit the mailboxes of voters on Thursday, declaring front-runner Mary Norwoods Republican past to be the elephant in the room.
The flyer, paid for by the state Democratic party, urged voters: Vote for Kasim Reed. Vote for Lisa Borders. Vote for Reuben McDaniel.
Reed and Borders, of course, are mayoral candidates trailing Norwood in the polls. McDaniel is a fresh candidate for the Atlanta school board, apparently added to give the flyer a multi-race dimension required by campaign finance laws governing the Democratic partys unusual decision to enter the contest.

Democratic attack? More like a racial attack.
Vote for anyone but the White Girl!
Not to worry, DNC, surely the Obama DoJ would invalidate her win, considering the large number of blacks who live in Atlanta city limits.
“I got this ‘elephant’ flyer in my mailbox yesterday.”
Did the flyer have postage attached? If not, that’s a violation of USPS regulations and the DNC can be fined.
What is Norwood’s story? How did she go from R to D?
Was she courted and then abandon when whe ran for hte “wrong” office?
Atlanta’s mayoral candidates run with no party affiliation. Since Atlanta elected its first black mayor, they’ve always been Democrats, but have no “D” next to their name as a candidate. Norwood is a Republican, but can’t put party affiliation next to her name per the rules of the mayoral race.
Norwood has allot of supporters in my area which is an EXTREMELY liberal “Obama” part of Atlanta. I find this very interesting.
I believe it had postage attached, but not sure. It was addressed to me specifically. I am sure this was a very targeted mailer. The DNC has been canvasing my area for months tracking voters. I always tell them to F off, so I know I am flagged in their database. The flyer is on the bottom of the trash can covered by pumpkin guts so I will not be checking. ;)
I’d love to be able to vote in the Atlanta election but live in Cobb County (just outside the city). I think a lot of people are tired of the political machine.

Thanks for the clarification.
I miss-read the article.
2nd hit piece came in mail just now...

Subtle.
At this rate the next one will simply say "Don't vote for whitey."
The flip side on the mailer is great too... It has a picture of an anonymous black woman. She appears either pissed or about to cry.
While Norwood is the best that can be hoped for here in Atlanta, she doesn’t identify as a Republican. There is also an article on ajc.com today that mentions that she is a strong supporter of Same Sex Marriage
