Huckabee hearts no one in New York's 23rd district
Politico ^ | Oct 30, 2009 | ALEX ISENSTADT

One name is notably absent from the list of prominent conservatives who have lined up against the GOP nominee in the Nov. 3 New York special election: former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Even as other past and prospective Republican presidential candidates have offered their endorsements, Huckabee has conspicuously declined to officially support Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman, a decision that has left bewildered many of the social conservatives whom he assiduously courted in his 2008 bid.

“It’s very disappointing,” said Tom McClusky, vice president for government affairs at the Family Research Council. “You have names out there like Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson and Tim Pawlenty who are willing to take a stand. You’d think that would have pushed him to make a decision.”

“It concerns me. I think he should endorse. I think Doug Hoffman is his kind of candidate,” said Mike Mears, executive director of Concerned Women for America’s political action committee.

“I keep hoping that he is going to do it,” he said. “Conservatives are lining up behind Doug Hoffman.”

Huckabee has no plans to endorse Hoffman over GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava, a moderate who supports gay marriage and abortion rights and who has a close relationship with labor, a spokeswoman confirmed this week.

To many conservatives, Huckabee’s decision to sit out the race is especially puzzling because he has publicly signaled that Hoffman is his candidate of choice. All that’s missing is the formal imprimatur.

This is good example of one of the problems I have with him. When it’s time stand up and be counted, he does nothing.

I’m sure the RNC has pressured Huckaby not to endorse. Same with Romney. They are both trying to protect their relations with the RNC.

Meanwhile Palin doesn’t care. She was first to go Rogue!!!

Huck isn’t a conservative so this isn’t a surprise. He’s a statist who happens to come to his statism via religion.

Huckabee is not a small government conservative. He is a social conservative. He raised taxes when he was governor. I would have hated had he or McCain won, because the “small government” movement would have died with them. Now it’s stronger than ever. I respect him for not trying to fool people, but I don’t support what he stands for. From a freedom standpoint, it’s more important in the short run to shrink government than to push social values, so from a priority standpoint, I’d like the next President to be pushing for fiscal responsibility (more in his job description), than anything else.

Mitt has also declined to endorse anyone in the NY23 race.

They’ve both failed the leadership test. We won’t forget.

Sarah Huckabee said Mike Huckabee, who now hosts a weekend program on Fox News, had decided not to endorse Hoffman because he was directing the resources of his political action committee, Huck PAC, to Republican campaigns

There's something I never trusted about the Huckster even during the '08 campaign. He seems to drink from the same Kool Aide pitcher as McCain. The only difference is that he is more subtle about it. When the rubber meets the road the Huckster will show his true RINO stripes.

Of course they do. They don't have the stones to pick a side, afraid that no matter which one they pick, they'll get hammered.

No balls. No conviction.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is another Vichy republican.

He prefers to collaborate with the enemies of this Republic

Huck surrenders his credibility.

Huck Never Had Any Credibility!

He hasn't been honest about his past as Governor, he has hidden behind his so-called Christianity, and as this issue has shown, he is too mealy-mouthed to stand up like a man and take a position.

Revelation 3:16. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.

NY-23 is not the place for the weak. It is exposing those who don't want to take a stand and even those who are only taking a stand when it is clear that Hoffman will easily beat Scozzafava and may beat the Democrat even with Scozzafava and the RNC splitting the ticket. Hoffman is so far ahead of Scozzafava that you can no longer say that Hoffman is the splitter.

Huck, Mitt, and Gingrich have all sold us out. They are catering to RNC leaders rather than conservative voters.

I protested at a McCain Rally last year by holding up a sign which read "McCain Has Sold Us Out". I see now that the Republican Party has sold us out as well.

Unlike many here I don’t dislike Huckabee so much.

He is a social conservative but his Andy of Mayberry demeanor hides a very skilled politician who is unflappable in debate.

Shame he has a populist streak and adheres to beltway PC platitudes on race.

Many here like to dismiss Huckabee as a dopey TV evangelist. But the guy is media savvy. He has manaaged to use Fox News to promote himself as a man of substance. That is why Rasmussen and CNN polls have Huckabee as the front runner for the 2012 GOP nomination.

Also TV Evangelists get just as much ratings as talk radio. People who watch Joyce Meyer love Huckabee.

Have to agree that Huck is media savvy, I remember when I became aware of Huck was when I heard the Pravda Media touting him after one of the early debates or forums before the 08 elections, which made the hair on my neck stand up. My impression of Huck becam much worst as the election progressed and I find him almost as repulsive as Obama now!

Mike Huckabee does not have what it takes to be President.
If Mike is the best we’ve got we may as well close up shop and give it over to the Dems. There is only one person in the ranks of Republicans with any chance against the Obama machine
and that is Sarah Palin. Laugh and disagree if you must but
she has the “star power/celebrity” and that’s what it’s going to take to win for the Republicans. That’s what Obama has Star power and celebrity, the rest is BS and the lemmings have bought it. Anyone paying attention has learned that the Obama wagon is slowly losing it’s wheels. The BS is being exposed and his socialistic objectives are slowly being seen for what they are. Even the MSM is slowly beginning to ask questions, not good for Obama. It may take a while longer but the bloom is of the rose and the rose petals are beginning to oxidize.

I agree with you, that Sarah Palin is by far the best candidate, because she shares our values and she is not afraid to lead from those values.

However, Huck does share a lot of those same values too. He is not as bold of a candidate and thus will not be as great of a leader as Palin will be. But he is far better than anything the democrats will put up. And he would have made a better candidate than McCain did.

Many here like to dismiss Huckabee as a dopey TV evangelist.

I've never seen anyone here dismiss him as "dopey". The problem is that he's conservative only as far as religion and social issues. He cannot be trusted on economics and who knows what his foreign policy would look like?

We make a very big mistake by choosing him or McRomney.
