In a recent Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, Larry David accidentally urinates on a picture of Jesus while he is a guest in someone elses home. This, in turn, leads to a misunderstanding in which the homeowners think they have a miraculously weeping Jesus.
Some Christians are understandably upset.
Just some thoughts on what this episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm has revealed:
Are producers of this show, or Larry David, or anyone else connected to it fearing for their lives right now? Are there Christian groups calling for the death of anyone in connection to this episode?
In comparison, let us say, to the Muhammad cartoons riots and death threats, what does this say about Islam and Christianity? Which faith is a Religion of Peace and which one is not?
Would the producers of this show have just as easily allowed a scene in which Larry David urinates on a Koran? He couldnt urinate on a picture of Muhammad because we all know that making a representation of Muhammad gets you an immediate death sentence. So we have to settle for the Holy Book. But how much does anyone want to bet that this would never be allowed?
Question: Why in our culture is urinating on Jesus easily permitted but urinating on the Koran is simply unthinkable? What does this signify?
And why is it that the people who right now are rolling their eyes and saying that Christians should get a life because this is freedom of expression, the same ones who would be up in arms if Larry David had done the same thing to the Koran? They are the ones who blamed the artists of the Muhammad cartoons for provoking and upsetting Muslims. They are the ones who argue that, when it comes to the sensibilities of Muslims, free speech has limits. If Curb Your Enthusiasm had an episode in which Larry David urinated on a Koran, they would be on the front lines saying that this is Islamophobia and that we must be sensitive to the feelings of Muslims, etc. It would be deemed as hate speech. There would be lawsuits and the show would be cancelled and Davids career would be over.
HBO has come to the defense of the episode, saying that it is all about parody. Everyone needs to lighten up. So, if Larry David urinated on the Koran, would HBO tell everyone they need to lighten up because it is parody? What does it say that we know for a fact that the latter would simply never happen?
What meaning and lesson do we draw from this?
No. Like all other anti-Christian bigots, he is afraid of Islam.
I would crap on one and then let my pigs crap on it and then mate on it.
But artists today are simply cowards. They only attack Christians -- because they know that Christians are not violent.
Evangalism is the solution to this sort of ugliness.
They would play Polo with his head in Afghanistan.
No, because he knows some Muslim fanatics would kill him like the filthy pig he is.
Is the movie “The Horsemen”? Cool movie about that. Afghan horsemen and thier wars.
That's the show.
David's in high cotton when competing groups are mad at him... He'd be thrilled if a bunch of Christians were upset with him - or a bunch of Jews - or a bunch of women - or a bunch of anyone.
Just as long as he doesn’t urinate on a picture of President Obama. That would be sacrilege and a hate crime.
He probably has hookers urinate on him every week, but he would never desecrate the holy book of his new masters.
I object to dragging the Muslims into this. This was a “secular Jew” profaning a Christian symbol in a vulgar attempt to get cheap laughs. Sorry to say this, but it was a hateful example of Jewish hostility toward and contempt for Christianity. Nothing more, nothing less.
Here's his next skit: (Ready David?)
Two muslims are sitting in a cage in Qitmo.
They have a toilet, but no TP, because the cruel Infidels guarding them took it away. They also spiced their Tabouleh with prunes, and now one of the hajis has to go #2
The Koran is their only source of paper, so they agree it's permissable a few of its pages--as long as it's not any of the hadiths urging holy war.
I wonder if Larry David would mind if every Christian urinated on his face? I would line up first to do it but I think he might like it too much...looks like a golden shower fan.
YOU KNUCKLEHEAD!!!
What you meant was Surahs!
the article thats linked in the heading has been removed
I don't hate Larry David. I certainly don't want to hurt him. The way to handle it isn't via outrage but pity and by making it clear that the people who these things aren't to be taken seriously either emotionally or intellectually.
I wouldn't even call for a boycott of HBO -- which would be kind of pointless since I don't get HBO.
There seems to be a market for this sort of stuff -- Letterman remains on the air -- but it is becoming more and more clear as one gets older that those who enjoy watching it are losers.
Avoid it, try to ignore it and trust to God.
I think a great idea for a amateur you tube video would be to reenact the pissing scene with Obama in the picture.
he doesn't dare...
Let’s find out, some clever Techie should change the video to show him urinating on the Koran. Then post it on Utube.
I wonder what would happen if a conservative wiped his butt on TV with the AIDS quilt?
It would be WWIII.
i wonder what would happen if someone did that to a koran and put it on youtube. how long do you think it would last?
For a while after 9/11 our friends had a Koran in the outhouse at their camp. I can’t say I used it, but I think it was a pretty popular item. Too bad there was no video.
NOW that's funny.
Oh God, that’s pure genius. Someone DO it!
with a little fancy editing, Larry could piss on the koran, I bet it would be a youtube sensation.
Somebody DO it! It would serve him right.
If a Muslim desecrated the Torah, that would be alright. But don’t do anything to the “most noble” Koran or you’ll get your throat slit. Notice how you don’t see Jews calling for the murder of those who have defaced the Torah. Our G-d forbids that.
