Chalk up another bull's-eye for the Marine Corps.
On Friday, Camp Pendleton is celebrating a big win over the Army, a traditional military rival.
Shooters from the Southern California base's School of Infantry have returned home with the top prize in the ninth annual U.S. Army Sniper Competition that took place Oct. 14-22 at Fort Benning, Ga.

I'm trying to think of a sarcastic, yet funny, anti-Marine gybe, but I am at a loss.

I didn’t notice if any SEALs were involved...probably would have embarrassed the competition too much.

I didnt notice if any SEALs were involved...probably would have embarrassed the competition too much.I don't know if SEAL's have snipers who do nothing but train at sniping day in and day out. In general, special forces men are very good at everything but not necessarily the best at any one particular thing.

You could say something about HOLLYWOOD Marines (Pendleton is in southern Ca) but that would make the Army look even worse.

Why not let better men define the Marines and their ranking as the big dogs.....
“U.S MARINE CORPS is Part of the Navy, the MEN'S DEPARTMENT...”
“Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat.” -RAdm. “Jay” R. Stark, USN; 10 November 1995
“I want you boys to hurry up and whip these Germans so we can get out to the Pacific to kick the s**t out of the purple-pissing Japanese, before the Godda**ed MARINES get all the credit!”
-Lt General George Patton, US Army 1945
“You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth- and the amusing thing about it is that they are.”
Father Kevin Keaney
1st Marine Division Chaplain
Korean War
I hope you realize this is all in fun.......but true.

My guess?
The SEALs are too busy doing back to back to back deployments in country shooting at live targets to spend time on this “peacetime” play-acting.

They do have snipers! Oh, and the best are trained at Quantico.I know they have snipers. What isn't clear to me is if their role is exclusively that of sniper or, if in addition to their other roles within a SEAL team, they being the teams best shot are the teams designated sniper?

to spend time on this peacetime play-acting. A gentle correction my good friend. It's this 'play-acting' that keeps these people alive when the metal hits the meat.

That is a great quote, here's one from a contemporary marine I think is in the class of Chesty Puller,
“I come in peace, I didn't bring artillery. But I am pleading with you with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I'll kill you all.”

They may have a couple of guys on a team that is sniper qualified, but they do name one the designated sniper. My son is on a team and they have 3 out of their 5 man team qualified snipers, I'm betting it's the same on a SEAL team

A REAL MISS AMERICA ....
This 19 year old ex-cheerleader (now an Air Force Security Forces Sniper) was watching a road that led to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target (i.e., she shot him).
It turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban, and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a US patrol walked by 30 minutes later.
It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.
The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot went through his butt and into the bomb which detonated; he was blown to pieces. The Air Force made a motivational poster of her:

(Folks, that's a shot 25 yards longer than seven football fields!) And the last thing that came out of his mouth ... was his rear!

The Marines have four Scout Sniper basic schools, including the one at Quantico. If the SEALS are trained at the Quantico school by Marine hogs, then they are probably pretty good. I know that Navy corpsmen who have been accepted into a Marine sniper platoon are eligible to go to USMC Scout Sniper Basic School but I haven’t heard of SEALS going through it.

My son related that in his class they had some officers and that every time their was a tough day scheduled for some reason the officers had pressing business elsewhere.
According to my son sniper school at Quantico was just as tough as BRC with more peopled dropped.
Where's the 4th school? Camp Lejeune, Pendleton, Quantico and ?
