Obama 'Most Powerful Writer Since Julius Caesar,' Says NEA Chief

Obama 'Most Powerful Writer Since Julius Caesar,' Says NEA Chief Rocco Landesman, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, declared in a speech to art philanthropists in Brooklyn last week that President Obama is the world's most powerful writer since the days of Caesar.

Et tu, Rocco?

Maybe President Obama will win the Nobel Prize for Literature, too, now that the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts has declared that "Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar."

Rocco Landesman rendered unto Obama that considerable compliment in a little-noticed speech to a group of art philanthropists in Brooklyn, N.Y., last week, praising the president as an "Optimist in Chief" who is developing "the most arts-supportive administration since Roosevelt."

Putting the president in the pantheon with such pencil-pushing powerhouses as the man who was, literally, the Czar of all Czars, Landesman said that since Obama "actually writes his own books," he's the most powerful man to be a true writer in the 2,000 years since Caesar strode the narrow earth.

"That has to be good for American artists," he said.

But one man's praise is another's dagger, say presidential historians, who called the speech a "bizarre" and illiterate attempt to praise a political patron -- and a big misfire for the NEA chief.

"Julius Caesar is historically the last person in the world that American presidents would want to be compared to," said historian Richard Brookhiser, who has written widely on the Founding Fathers. "He tried to subvert the republic -- that's why he was killed."

At least, whoever wrote Obama’s stuff is a good writer. I hear Bill Ayers is a good writer.

Don’t misunderestimate these guys. I’ve said before that when they decide that Zero is an albatross around their neck, they will eliminate him, blame it on the right-wing haters, create an instant martyr, pull their chestnuts out of the 2010 election fire.

The NEA chump is just greasing the skids.

Obama’s books were written by someone else, his speeches are written by others … just what has Obama written that even comes close to matching anything written by Julius Caesar?

Blame it on Fox News’ violence machine and use it as an excuse to introduce nation-wide censorship of “hate” media.

They could kill a dozen birds with one stone.

Don’t think they won’t do it if they think they can get away with it. And with sycophant uncurious MSM carrying their water, they might get away with it.

Pray for the Secret Service.

And of course they will be smart enough to manipulate some goof-ball white supremacist outfit to actually carry out the hit. Pray for the Secret Service and beg God to give the crazies on the right brains enough to see how counterproductive it would be.

But then there are the crazies on the Left to worry about.

And some folks are still in denial that Colleges of Education produce uneducated idiots to whom most of the several states have given monopolies on educating our children!

I hope at very least the illiteracy is one of meaning "since Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar", rather than the absolute imbecility implicit in asserting that Obama is the 'most powerful writer' since 44 B.C. (or maybe 52 B.C., and was The Gaulic War really that good?).

The sentiment is indefensible either way, but at least this way she wouldn't be asserting Obama was a 'more powerful writer' than Virgil, Livy, Ovid, the Evanglists, St. Paul, Marcus Aurelius, St. Basil the Great, St. John Chyrsostom, the anonymous author of Beowulf, Mursaki Shibubi, Anna Comnena, Omar Khayyám, Wolfram von Eschenbach, Dante, Petrarch, Bocaccio, or Chaucer (to name but a few).

Rocco is Whacko!

I once made the mistake of debating on Facebook with an E. Village “artist” with whom i went to high school. We graduated in 1983. They’re really crazy, logic does not work, it’s ALL emotion, ALL the time. I deleted him from my “friends” shortly after he freaked out when I correctly spelled Das Kapital with a K. (he replied that as a conservative I was maligning Marx by spelling Das Kapital with a K. Idiot)

Nope this clown is using the definition of "leader of powerful nation who writes". What he writes doesn't have to be significant or good.

Even by his crack reasoning, Marcus Aurelius Emperor of Rome, and either Queen Victoria of Great Britain or her Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli wrote better stuff than Obama.

I have read Julius Caesar’s commentaries on the Gallic Wars, but I have never read anything by Obama. But based upon what I have heard, there are some similarities. Both are ruthless politicians. Both are narcissists. The difference is that Caesar actually accomplished something. Caesar was not a wimp, and he did not go around apologizing to the world for the accomplishments of Rome. Caesar actually wrote his own books. Obama is gay.
