The environment is the most ingenious cover story ever devised for Big Government
Im always appreciative when a fellow says what he really means. Tim Flannery, the jet-setting doomsaying global warm-monger from down under, was in Ottawa the other day promoting his latest eco-tract, and offered a few thoughts on Copenhagenwhich is transnational-speak for Decembers UN Convention on Climate Change. We all too often mistake the nature of those negotiations in Copenhagen, remarked professor Flannery. We think of them as being concerned with some sort of environmental treaty. That is far from the case. The negotiations now ongoing toward the Copenhagen agreement are in effect diplomacy at the most profound global level. They deal with every aspect of our life and they will influence every aspect of our life, our economy, our society.
Hold that thought: They deal with every aspect of our life. Did you know every aspect of your life was being negotiated at Copenhagen? But in a good way! So no need to worry. After all, we all care about the environment, dont we? So we ought to do something about it, right? And, since the environment isnt just in your town or county but spreads across the entire planet, we can only really do something at the planetary level. But what to do? According to paragraph 38 on page 18 of the latest negotiating text, the convention will set up a government to manage the new funds and the related facilitative processes.

Steyn is truly magnificent.
Steyn ping opportunity.
It's part of the plan.
I'll stick to my tag line.
This is becoming Rome redux IMO.
Do-gooders are the scourge of humanity.
It’s all about control of the whole enchilada, don’tcha know.
However or whatever needs to be done regardless costs to achieve total control is irrelevant in the eyes of those seeking that control.
Steyn’s view is that health care is the bigger deal and I sort of agree. Environmental taxes hurts economies so much that they have been repealed or suspended in other countries.
LOL! Thank you Mark Steyn!
I thought once the US banned CFCs to protect the ozone hole the battle had been won.
Sigh, I guess these wars on poverty, illiteracy, civil rights, glass ceilings, political correctness, diversity, affirmative action, cigarettes, trans fats, cell phones, seat belts, airbags, helmets,etc., are never over. There is always something else to control, a never ending battle.
However, with national healthcare and cap and trade the battle will be mostly won. No more freedom to do anything not approved by the Commissars.
What a wonderful world that will be!

Forewarned is forearmed... thanks for the ping knews
Thanks, knews_hound!

“Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences.”
-C.S. Lewis
O, the folly of men to think that we could be as God.
Job 37
1 “At this my heart pounds
and leaps from its place.
2 Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice,
to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3 He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven
and sends it to the ends of the earth.
4 After that comes the sound of his roar;
he thunders with his majestic voice.
When his voice resounds,
he holds nothing back.
5 God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
6 He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
7 So that all men he has made may know his work,
he stops every man from his labor.
8 The animals take cover;
they remain in their dens.
9 The tempest comes out from its chamber,
the cold from the driving winds.
10 The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.
11 He loads the clouds with moisture;
he scatters his lightning through them.
12 At his direction they swirl around
over the face of the whole earth
to do whatever he commands them.
13 He brings the clouds to punish men,
or to water his earth and show his love.
14 “Listen to this, Job;
stop and consider God’s wonders.
15 Do you know how God controls the clouds
and makes his lightning flash?
16 Do you know how the clouds hang poised,
those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge?
17 You who swelter in your clothes
when the land lies hushed under the south wind,
18 can you join him in spreading out the skies,
hard as a mirror of cast bronze?
19 “Tell us what we should say to him;
we cannot draw up our case because of our darkness.
20 Should he be told that I want to speak?
Would any man ask to be swallowed up?
21 Now no one can look at the sun,
bright as it is in the skies
after the wind has swept them clean.
22 Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;
God comes in awesome majesty.
23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power;
in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.
24 Therefore, men revere him,
for does he not have regard for all the wise in heart?”
These are very definitely totalitarians in the exact sense. To disagree with them is to make war on the planet itself, the penalty for which is whatever they decide, and there is no appeal. Compromise is useless - there is no such thing as a “little” or “moderate” totalitarianism. It’s only a question of how fast. And the pace appears to be picking up.
