I seem to remember them (not CAIR, another Muslim group) offering to lop off the heads of those responsible for the Canadian play that depicted Jesus as gay. The general response from the Christian community was, “Umm . . . thanks, but not thanks. Backing away. . . .” :-)
When CAIR defends people who stand up and create scenes on airliners, causing the other passengers great fear, it loses me.
I honestly don’t care what it’s thoughts on the HBO program in question are. I say this, because I can only view this as a self-serving ploy to fool people into thinking it is a reasoned organization.
Example after example continues to come along to suggest it isn’t. And that’s what I’m going to use for my basis of understanding.
CAIR is just another special interest organization that seeks to support anything at all if done by it’s favored class. Fleas be upon them...

I will forever be suspicious of the motives of muslims, and CAIR is no friend of any part of this country's bedrock culture. It is however worth mentioning that "cheapness and vulgarity" are mothers milk to the modern American left. I would also point out that that same scummy American left collaborates with CAIR as it has done with every mortal enemy this country has had for the last four decades.

I believe the Muslims pronounce Jesus, as Issa (EE-sah); and he is considered one of the great prophets, who was a forerunner to Mohammed.
Now watch the TV shows wet their pants and grovel for mercy for any offence they may have made against the Muslims. You see, they can act superior and be brave insult Christians, because our beliefs tell us to love our enemies - something these jerks take as a weakness.
But the Muslims tend to prefer to take things a little bit more aggressively - so watch the ‘brave’ hollywood stars cry, beg, grovel and cower in fear.
As a Christian, I should want to defend them from the Muslim backlash; but I won’t. Guess I’ll just have to say some extra prayers tonight.
HBO handed CAIR a nice little gift with which they can use to make themselves look like nice, everyday people who, of course, would rush to defend Jesus' honor.
The reality is, if they had the slightest chance, they would force everyone who claims the name of Christ to renounce that name and become Muslim or lose his life.
CAIR could not care less about Jesus Christ being blasphemed and slandered. It is, like you said, purely a PR stunt.

Actaully the show wasn’t mocking Jesus, but was mocking followers of and believers in Jesus.
Still, it was nice of CAIR to stand up for Christians (sort of). No one else will.

I actually have always had the sneaking suspicion that if the left had their way, all religion would be permanently eliminated and forbidden.

Don't thank them too much. They've never spoken up before and I'd guess the only reason now is because Larry David is Jewish, albeit of the more secular variety.
It will be interesting to see if HBO is more concerned with not offending Muslims, or with offending Christians.

Actually, I think that's their lack of personal hygiene.
I think a sincere, believing muzzie would recall at the “humor” as much as a Protestant or Catholic would recall at Moses getting the “treatment.”
The problem with a group like CAIR is that they look for things to bitch and raise hell about as well as to point out “rot” in the “decadent” Western culture. Their motives will always be suspect to this FReeper.
Many Muslims like to use Jesus as a bridge between Christians and themselves (in the West only - in the Middle East, they just crush and dominate the Christians) by saying that we have Jesus in common, and that they believe that He is a prophet. Someone tried that on me and I politely told him that Jesus himself said that He was God, and it means that he is either right, and he is God, or He lied and he is a blasphemer. Either way, Christians believe what Jesus said about himself preclude him from being a Prophet.
That person somehow lost touch with me... I don’t know why!
Think about it this way: orthodox Jews have their “Shabat goy” to do chores for them on the Sabbath; why not let the muzzies be our designated “leg-breakers”(figurative) for things like this?
