Okay, here we go. Can the Phillies repeat? Now that she is no longer the junior senator, do the Yankees break "The Hillary Curse"?

Those two witches are going to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

I refuse to watch!

I’ll sit here at my computer until hubby gives the all clear.

So I guess you agree with me that it is pretentious for Mrs. Biden to put “Dr.” before her name. From my college days, I heard that was bad form.

On MLB network they are playing Game 1 of the 1968 World Series between Tigers and Cardinals. Denny Mclain vs Bob Gibson.

I see Tim McCarver (catching) but don't get to hear his Jeter love

Michelle Obama doesn’t deserve to be in the same stadium with that young man. I didn’t know Yogi was a D-Day vet. Same goes for him. What a disgrace she is to our country.

Yep, I was sitting in the break room at work eating my food. The announcers said the two sub-humans were on for the first pitch after the break. I picked up all of my food and went back to my cubicle. Some of the others that were there as well knew what was up, lol.

All clear ... the first pitch was thrown by a US Army Ranger who was wounded in Iraq. The First and Second ladies were just there as props ... along with Yogi Berra. Photo op then with Jeter in the middle.

It's safe to watch again.

What a game that was. Gibson had a ton of strike-outs. He was my boyhood baseball idol.

No TV, but ESPN radio is carrying it.

If want, you can go to the MLB site and click on the "gameday" icon (it;s the little baseball diamond). It's not TV but it does use questec to track pitches and gives you a pitch-by-pitch running text summary.

I watched the Phillies play the Dodgers, and they’ll make you beat them. They won’t give it to you.

I don’t know anything about the Yankees, but they’ll have to play tough to win.

I once read about a Chambliss Curse, too.

Since 1977, Yanks have not won a WS when he was not affiliated with the team. Let's hope this curse continues too. LOL. I think Chambliss started playing for the Yankees in 1974 or 1975.

1976, Chambliss is Yankee player: Yankees lose WS
1977, Chambliss is Yankee player: Yankees win WS
1978, Chambliss is Yankee player: Yankees win WS

1980, Chambliss is Brave player: Yankees lose WS
1981, Chambliss is Brave player: Yankees lose WS

1996, Chambliss is Yankee coach: Yankees win WS
1998, Chambliss is Yankee coach: Yankees win WS
1999, Chambliss is Yankee coach: Yankees win WS
2000, Chambliss is Yankee coach: Yankees win WS

2001, Chambliss is minor league coach: Yankees lose WS
2003, Chambliss is a Cincy coach: Yankees lose WS

2009, Chambliss is a minor league coach: Yankees ???? (lose, hopefully)

From my Fearless Predictions - more stats and stuff but don't know how to go from my file in my hard drive to this post other than cut and paste.

NY Yankees #1 Offense #14 Defense
Philadelphia #4 Offense #7 Defense

World Series winner: NY Yankees

(Ranks based on regular season stats.) Philly had better piching in the regular season but the Bronx bombers seem to be blasting away. Interstingly, in recent years in the playoffs, the team with the better hittng record seems to overcome the teams with the better pitching record.

Oh my ... Ret. Capt. Tony Odierno .. God bless him. What a handsome man .. how grateful and blessed we are for men and women of such valor, duty and sacrifice. Can't forget his incredible Dad, Gen. Ray Odierno.

Anthony and Daniela Odierno

LASTING ORDEAL

*snip*

Ordierno does, however, know well the anguish experienced by the parents of wounded troops.

On Aug. 21, 2004, insurgents ambushed the unit commanded by Capt. Anthony Odierno, and the West Point graduate lost his left arm. The general and his wife, Linda, rushed to their son's bedside at a military hospital in Germany.

Odierno said his son's injuries changed nothing about how he leads soldiers -- and nearly everything about his perceptions of how war affects their families.

"Sacrifices are now personal for the Odierno family. That helps me understand sacrifices that many families are going through," he said. "I'm acutely aware we want to make sure we have programs in place that will take care of these families -- maybe I'm a bit more aware because I experienced that as a father."

Anthony Odierno, now 29, retired as a captain and is now pursuing an MBA at New York University. He's also an intern with the New York Yankees this summer -- a job that has allowed his father, a rabid Yankees fan, to visit Yankee Stadium.

The visits to the storied ballpark haven't been the elder Odierno's first brush with the big leagues. His West Point baseball team played an exhibition game against the Yankees or the Mets on alternating years. Odierno pitched in every game. His best outing came his junior year, against the Mets. He pitched one inning and faced Ed Kranepool, Dave Kingman and Jim Beauchamp.

"I retired the side. It was pretty exciting," Odierno said.

Odierno attributed that memorable outing -- and most things he has accomplished since -- to growing up in Morris County and playing sports at Morris Hills High School.

"It was a great place to grow up. . . . It had had a big effect on my life," Odierno said. "It's what got me into West Point. I always feel comfortable when I go back."

~~~~~~~~~~
The Odiernos belong to a family tradition of American soldiering that has become remarkably commonplace. Of the 300 army generals in the US military, about a third have sons or daughters who have served or are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
~~~~~~~~~

So that's where Greg Kelly went .. Greg Kelly interviews Anthony Odierno and Mr. Dupuy about Welcome Back, Veterans and throwing out the first pitch.

Video - Matthew McConaughey about supporting our troops

God bless all our heroes!
