“...why the sudden interest in Canada,GW was in Montreal last week...”

Don’t know what you mean by “sudden”. Canada has definitely made a turn to the Right, so it’s a good time to go.

I just found out last night that he will be coming to Mobile to speak at Mobile College....I’m already sucking up to a friend of mine who will be “buying” a table at the banquet hoping I get a seat!!!! I love this man and yes, I sure as hell do miss him....

I'm watching people's replies and I have to shake my head in stunned disbelief.

Waaa!!! It's all the media's fault!! Waaaaaa!!

The press attacked Reagan relentlessly and he left office as one of the most popular presidents and won re-election with one of the most lopsided electoral landslides in history

You all are getting into the same game as the liberals; "if only Bush spoke better." Liberals also believe if they just speak the "right" way, you will buy their horrible policies. Listen to the new term, "Competitive Option" being used to try and sell Government run healthcare You nailed it, Sickoflibs. We ended up in 2008 with the two worst candidates to run for the WH in 2008 and elected the soon to be the worst president in history because of the performance of President Bush and the GOP under him.

Open borders with an attempt at amnesty, two nation building wars, a new Medicare drug entitlement, debt, ect. ect.

I'm not saying that Bush was representative of all that's evil. He is representative with what's wrong with the GOP

I personally like GWB, but let's take a moment to look over our shoulders and face some facts about (primarily) the years in his final term.

I don't think too many conservatives here or anywhere else for that matter were all that upset about his lack of notable verbal and oratory skills.

What we WERE upset about was his almost total lack of any vigor whatsoever in defending himself, his programs and his political party against the slanders and calumies of the Left in general and the Democrats and liberal media in particular.

This lack was damaging in the extreme to all the three entities noted above......no matter how it's glossed over now.

If, indeed, he is rising to greater vocal, critical and analytical heights today when he speaks before private audiences it's still little comfort to those of us who vividly remember all the vicious onslaughts by the Left during the Bush years with no one, including the President, on both defense and offense except for conservative radio and TV talk show personalities and pundits.

GOP party leaders were just as mute and culpable.

I'd still take President Bush any day over the bozo we have in office now. One thing that can never be disputed...Bush doesn't hate America like BO and MO!

Wow. When did conservatives start giving A's for effort and intentions over actual results?

I am guessing that if W’s teleprompter broke, he could still stay on message.

He did. But you weren’t watching closeup. You bought the picture that Michael Moore and MSNBC and Letterman painted for you.

The Bush that this writer heard is the same Bush that Texans elected and elected again and who went to Washington and did a good job under extreme hardship.

The bigger question is why so many FReepers were duped into demonizing this good man. The vitriol is still over-the-top.

Maybe it took an 0 presidency to begin to bring the picture into focus.

God bless you, George W. Bush, and thank you for your service.

I would put GWB about equal with Carter for worse screw ups as president. Now Obama seems to be trying to tie that, but GWB gave him 100 free passes. The passes are called the “Last guy left me with EVERYTHING a mess” passes. So it may take another year (hopefully not) before Obama runs out of Bush passes.

I couldnt wait till Bush was out of office. I dont miss him a bit. He was poison. At least with Obama we know who are opponent is. With your hero GWB he claimed to represent conservatism and capitalism while destroying the names of both. He even got republican trust levels for national defense down to 20s. Liberal lies?? He got almost everyone to dislike and distrust him.

Frankly, all evidence is there that Saddam did have weapons of mass destruction and we knew he did as he used them.

Then where are they?

The economic collapse can be laid directly at the feet of a bunch of Democrats and the truth is that Bush tried to warn congress--more than once.

...which does not excuse Bush for signing the fascist bailout bill and opening the doors to more fascism and Socialism by successor administrations.

Now, why is it that you hate Bush?

Now, why is is that you shill for RINOs?

Is it because you don't know any better?

And...if you loved Bush, you'll love Romney!

W was forced to compromise his domestic agenda in order to continue congressional funding for the war on terror. I don’t even know how many votes were taken to de-fund the Iraq war. Amnesty was his major flaw.

Then why did he push for mass amnesties of illegal aliens, effectively spitting upon the sovereignty of the United States and of her fifty constituent States?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

No. I painted my own picture. I don't need Moore or Letterman or MSNBC, which I don't watch, to tell me what I saw with my own eyes. Just like I don't need them today to piss on my leg and tell me it's raining when it comes to current WH occupant

So, why didn’t he do that while President?

It's just not one of Bush's natural talents, but I think it was mostly speaking in front of a press that had a deep hatred for him. Bush was forced to think and rethink every word two or three times to guard against saying anything that the biased media could twist against him.

"Was this the same GWB that told us we must invade Iraq immediately to avoid a nuclear attack on US cities?"

- So, "immediately" means after 18 months of media build up and TWO Congressional votes authorizing "use of force" in Iraq?

"required the NEW democrat congress to fund the surge"

-George Bush was pilloried by the Democrats (and many Republicans) for proposing a surge. To assert that the NEW Democrat Congress somehow was responsible for the "surge" in Iraq crosses the line from selective memory to blatant fallacy.

"Was this the same GWB that told us he and Paulson need a blank check for TARP1 to avoid a great depression?"

Probably a mistake, but in truth we'll never know if TARP was needed to save the banking system from collapse - just as if we didn't do it, and the system collapsed - we wouldn't know if doing it would've worked. Just the same, it was voted on and passed, largely by overwhelming Democrat support in both houses.

Bush the problem with the GOP?

Hardly, if it weren't for George Bush, McCain would have been the "GOP" choice in 2000, and Gore would've become President. Hard to predict what we'd look like after President Gore, but it's hard to imagine a good outcome.

I don't always agree with GWB, but his positions were always clear, and I can't remember him "reversing himself" very often.

Bush’s policies, and Captain Queeg got us Obama.
McCains campaign looked like he deliberately lost to Obama.
Still does!

It's borderline hilarious that there are freepers who still think that Bush's only problem was his lack of oratory skills that did him and the GOP in.

Yeah, I wanna hear the defense for that one. Nobody promoted illegal immigration more than W.
