There have been a lot of bad days recently for whats come to be known as the Mainstream Media or MSM but Monday was one of the worst.
New circulation figures showed that big city papers had lost as much as a quarter of their circulation in the last six months. And new TV ratings showed that CNN, the cable network that prides itself on news coverage down the middle, finished dead last in prime-time against more partisan rivals like Fox News and MSNBC.
Are the two connected?

But if CNNs president accepts that political agendas or the lack thereof - play a role in the prime-time ratings, does that hold true for newspaper circulation as well?
I dont think newspaper circulation has dropped because of any ideological thing, said Alex S. Jones, director of the Harvards Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy. Mostly, its a matter of the economics of the situationfree versus expensive.

Besides the Wall Street Journalwhich caters more to a niche business readershipall of the top U.S. daily newspapers witnessed drops in circulation ranging, from the single digits to upwards of a 25 percent.

Thank you. The coffee is even more enjoyable this morning.
CNN (which is not middle-of-the-road) is in last place.
Fox News is in first place.
Get a clue: it's the ideology.
My birds are getting annoyed. If we lose newspapers, they will have to go on Slime magazine or Snoozeweek
Completely wrong. See "Wall St Journal".
I like how they throw in MSNBC with Fox as if it’s doing well. The real truth is that it’s barely beating out CNN in overall ratings and the younger demographic that advertisers look at. The only one of the 4 cable news networks that is enjoying great ratings is Fox News.
I see Politico is still spewing their tripe about CNN being “middle of the road”.
Oh well... Can’t let it spoil the good news.
(((cough)))
What the hell does that mean?
Hit-and-Run Sanchez and Teabagging Cooper are middle of the road?
“CNN, the cable network that prides itself on news coverage down the middle, finished dead last . . . “
Ha ha! Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving network.
“Mostly, its a matter of the economics of the situationfree versus expensive.
Cable is free now? I pay around $100/month for Dish Network and watch mostly FOX News and TCM. What’s a newspaper, $1/day? Money has nothing to do with it, MSM.
Pretty much:
“MSNBCs Rachel Maddow Show Ratings Hit Lowest Level Ever
Most cable news ratings are going to show declines from their election year heyday last fall, but for MSNBCs Rachel Maddow Show (which debuted in September, 2008) those year over year declines have made October, 2009 its lowest rated month ever in both average viewers and the cable news targeted adults 25-54 demo, down 54% and 65% respectively from October, 2008”
“News gets worse for the MSM” aint life great once in a while?
I spit cheerios all over the monitor when I read that CNN has news coverage down the middle...bwahahaha!
I dont think newspaper circulation has dropped because of any ideological thing, said Alex S. Jones, director of the Harvards Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy. Mostly, its a matter of the economics of the situationfree versus expensive.
Then how does this Harvard genius explain FNC’s decimation of CNN in the ratings? And CNN is NOT politically ‘down the middle’; if you have restraint and a barf bag, watch that mental midget Wolf Blitzer report the ‘news’.
There’s a local radio talk show host in Pittsburgh that was talking about her/it. He said something to the effect, is it weird for me to say I think Rachel Maddow is hot? When I heard that, I thought to myself that we better all be watching for this guy. Because to me, Rachel Maddow looks like a pre-pubescent boy of about 14. To me, that means this male local radio host thinks that pre-pubescent 14 year old boys are hot....

Ostrich syndrome. As long as they keep their heads buried in the sand and ignore reality, they will continue to destroy their own means of making a living.
And, some people think journalists are smart!!???

The whole notion of citizenship has been declining for decades now.
What the hell does that mean?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It means you are not being a good citizen and demanding that your tax dollars bail them out
So is John “Sloppy Seconds” Roberts.
Their round table discussions are weighted to the left. During the McCain-0bama debate Bennett was their lone “conservative.” None of their other participants were identified as liberal.
BS only a died in the wool leftie would believe - like the clowns at Politico.
