In Deadliest Month, 53 U.S. Troops Die in Afghanistan (While Obama Dithers)
NY Times ^ | 10/26/2009 | ALISSA J. RUBIN

Posted on 10/27/2009 4:14:11 PM PDT by tobyhill

Eight Americans died in combat in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, bringing October’s total to 53 and making it the deadliest month for Americans in the eight-year war. September and October were both deadlier months overall for NATO troops.

The troops, along with an Afghan civilian accompanying them, were killed in several attacks involving “multiple, complex” improvised bombs, according to a statement from the NATO-led coalition.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said that Taliban in Zabul Province were responsible. He said they had blown up two armored vehicles carrying the troops. He also said that the Taliban had engaged in a fierce firefight lasting more than a half-hour with Afghan police in Zabul and killed eight officers. His report could not be verified because the American military is with-holding additional information until the families of the dead had been notified.

Nine months and still blaming Bush. Maybe he should read the chart of HIS record on Afghanistan.

The left is the reason he is not going to announce a troop decision until after next week. He knows that if he comes out with additional troops, the left will protest by not voting for Corzine and if he decides not to honor the request by THE COMMANDER ON THE GROUND (for Christ's sake) then the middle right (probably 2 conservatives in the whole state of Jersey) will be more galvanized and probably leave Daggett to ensure that Corzine does not get it.

This stinks of political BS to the tenth degree. And yes, he still cannot man up to anything. What is the left going to do when their own party tires of the better than Bush campaign slogan?

Bring the troops home now and let Afghanistan return to what it was once before: Run by the Taliban and a terrorist safe haven.

In the list of topics on FR, this should be first on the list. On FR we discuss many things, but the deaths of our military personnel should top the list of concerns. We are dealing with the deaths of sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers. There are times that the citizens of America are called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice, but it is our duty to make certain that these sacrifices are necessary and unavoidable. We do not want to sacrifice them for nothing. There is a difference between dying for something and dying for nothing. We can disagree on whether or not Afghanistan is a winnable war, but if we are involved in it, we must win it or get the hell out. I wonder if Obama would be dithering if he had sons or daughters fighting in Afghanistan?

The left worship him because they, along with Obama, hate America and hate our military. They love it when they hear about more troops dying. Obama doesn’t give a flying F about our United States Military. All he cares about us turning the U.S into the Communist States of America

Yeah, let’s abandon thousands to certain death again. It was so much fun, wasn’t it, when we betrayed South Vietnam. It’s an American habit. And it does so much for our credibility. But that’s evidently okay with you.

Nope, I do not support such a move, and apparently, you fail at recognizing what “=.=” means or infers.

My stance on Afghanistan is riddled throughout this board on subjects dealing ranging from Barry and Afghanistan to issues revolving around Afghanistan, the reconstitution of al Qaeda, Pakistan, etc.

Be asured, this is not my position but the position that this current administration is no doubt contemplating.

The socialist in our White House pretends that he doesn’t want to risk American soldiers’ lives with a hasty decision. Either he’s so phenomenally stupid that he doesn’t realize that waiting to decide is a decision, one that is costing American lives, or he is so phenomenally evil that he doesn’t care. Sadly, I suspect we know which of the two explanations is correct.

Today or yesterday Onada was quoted as saying he would never endanger US soldiers lives. It has become axiomatic that Onada says he is not doing something, that is exactly what he’s doing.

President Clinton became best known dilly-dallying with Monica, the intern. President Obama will be best remembered for his dithering and dawdling while America’s best and brightest young men and women die in Afghanistan.

For some reason, that looks photo-shopped to me. The red “ink” on the shirt doesn’t look natural...it looks computer generated.

Terrible news. What kind of bombs are the Taliban using? It takes a high-tech bomb to blow up an American armored vehicle. Most likely those bombs are produced by our mortal enemies in Iran.

And what does “=.=” mean? A RAT, perhaps?

One of my past students stopped into to see me this afternoon after school.

He is heading off to sniper school in two weeks.

After he is deployed my class will be adopting his platoon for card, gifts, and letters.

Exactly.

My guess is his “homies” in the White House are secretly CHEERING with every report of another American hero killed.

He is not qualified to be Commander in Chief and should resign or be impeached. (I know - not until there is a new Congress)

He is a TRAITOR to our Troops and to this nation!

My son went in the Marines in June.
He currently is in Ft. Knox for Abrams Tank School.

At any rate, we should pray for all our men and women serving in the military and serving in varying areas around the world, especially in Afghanistan.

It is a frakin’ shame that politicians must invariably implant their arses into politicizing wars and conflicts, again, especially as it relates to Afghanistan. The stench of Vietnam comes to mind every time I hear a politician politicizing Afghanistan....makes me ill to the point of wanting to commit a violent act on one of their politicizing arses.

I don’t know how to respond to this, for I’m not certain what you are trying to say. I don’t see the comparison between Sheehan’s views and mine. That would be like someone comparing my views to those of Hitler or Stalin. I do not see how my views on the POTUS’ apathy to the troops dying in Afghanistan is similar to Sheehan’s, and I certainly do not love Al-Qaeda.
I have spent most of my life in the military fighting the enemies of my country, and I have seen how the deaths of those in uniform affect the lives of their loved ones. This is not the time for the Commander-in-Chief to dither.
