ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg County highway was shut down for hours Tuesday after deputies stopped a man who they say had a rifle and seven live improvised explosive devices in his car. Authorities are also searching the man's motel room.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams says Mark Kerron of New Jersey is "the real McCoy"

The paragraph above says a rifle was found in the car. The article at the link says it was a shotgun. Any idea which one is right?

Rifle or shotgun. To most ignorant journalists they are the same thing.
I guess we are lucky they don’t describe them as “bang-bang sticks”.

Deputies stopped Carron's vehicle Tuesday morning on Highway 301 in Orangeburg for driving left-of-center. Well that clarifies his motives...

Why seven IEDs??
What is his story?
Bizarre!
To: Allegra
Got a feeling they will be pipe bombs.
I hope they aren’t wired-up artillery shells.
To: o_zarkman44
Who knows. I would also like to know what the IED's were exactly. IEDs like EFPs? Pipe bombs? For all I know they were dry ice in pop bottles.
Regardless, having three drivers licenses, evasive on his real identity, and receiving a tip on him, he was planning something.

Article now states:

I'm assuming the media are getting that from the police (rather than hearsay), who should know the difference.

The linked WISI website’s reporter left at 10 am this morning for the story. Will update as soon as I learn more.

A high school senior in San Diego is charged with plotting the destruction of a high school with "weapons of mass destruction". When did small bombs get lumped in with thermo-nuclear bombs? The hyperbole is just ridiculous. The ignorance and hyperbole has been codified into law.

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart’s top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That’s right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It’s got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That’s right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

So some of that stuff he had is prohibited in South Carolina? Depends on what the "IEDs" are, most stuff is prohibited by the Feds, without special licenses and so forth, that is.
I don't think SC is exactly "East Coast" in the sense that places north (and east) of Virginia. are.
Now Mayors Daley and Bloomberg would have shat their pants if they'd seen all that legal firepower and other fun stuff at the TCM shoot.

I was at a gun show in Nevada, where there was a table selling “binary explosive reactive targets”, it was something like Tannerite, but looked like AN, AP with Al in a little baggie for an activator, at least some metal powder.
If I had bought a dozen, and had been stopped, they might have caught me with a rifle or two, plus seven “IED’s” with dayglo orange stickers on them, and a box of 30-06 with five rounds missing. Plus a copy of the US Constitution from Cato Institute, and “antigovernment literature” in the form of a flyer from the “Fully Informed Jury Association”.
Let’s wait and see what the details are.

Notice how the hoplophobic media pukes pointed out the
rifle in the car (a perfectly lawful event)
before they mentioned the IEDs (a crime with serious terrorist potential...) Idiots!
Of course, not all "IEDs" are the same: could be these were homemade, cardboard-cased M-80 wannabe noisemakers. OTOH, McVeigh supposedly had "only" one "IED"...
My disdain for "journalism" grows exponentially...
Anyway, glad the sheriff's troops are checking out this guy...
