Lower-income Californians will gain a new right next year -- free legal representation in certain civil cases -- at least temporarily.

The so-called "Civil Gideon law" will provide legal counsel for poor Californians doing such things as fighting evictions, home foreclosures or in family law matters such as child custody disputes and cases of neglect.

The state is already broke and they add even more entitlements? Tell me again how this state has given us two Republican presidents in the last forty years including one of the greats?

I’ve been seeing those articles about how CA has TOO MUCH money on its hands. I guess they found a way to spend some of it.

So we can expect a flood of frivolous suits for every perceived slight, or perceived opportunity to ‘stick it to the man’. Looking crossways at someone who has free representation will cost you serious legal fees before the suit gets tossed. Just another way to spread the wealth (to those who support Obama — the trial lawyers)

State-sponsored judicial assistance.

Judicare = Medicare => legal representation when the government says its ok for you to bring your case to court.

Lawyers have been suffering in the current downturn and many of them have had to turn to lowly jobs like doing repos for banks to stay alive. This gives them some additional state paid clients and is a good stimulus jobs program.(sarc)

Free for them. But I’m a CA tax payer. So I guess it won’t be free for me.

isn’t there a takeout joint in L.A. that’s owned by a lawyer where you can get free legal advice with your Chili Dog Combo on Tuesdays?

If the depositions are like GHETTO DEPOSITION, at least it could provide a little comic relief. If you have not seen this yet, it is a must see.

Never knew milk and honey were only for those who showed no means to pay for it. Pays to be a ‘dependent on the system’ person. Can I become a tax mooch and not a tax payer, it seems so much easier.

Check the wholesale demographic change of California over the last 40 years and you’ll get your answer. Ain’t mass immigration grand.
